A car fire extinguisher is a portable firefighting device designed specifically for use in vehicles. It is a crucial safety tool to have on hand in case of a fire emergency while driving. Here's what you need to know about car fire extinguishers:
Purpose: The primary purpose of a car fire extinguisher is to suppress and extinguish fires that may occur in a vehicle. These fires can be caused by a variety of factors, including electrical faults, engine problems, fuel leaks, or accidents.
Size and Design: Car fire extinguishers are typically compact and lightweight, making them easy to store within a vehicle's cabin. They are designed to fit in small spaces, such as the glove compartment, under the seat, or in a dedicated mount within the vehicle.
Fire Extinguishing Agents: Car fire extinguishers use various types of fire extinguishing agents, but the most common ones are dry chemical or ABC powder extinguishers. These extinguishers are effective against most types of fires, including those involving flammable liquids, electrical equipment, and ordinary combustibles.
Classification: Car fire extinguishers are typically classified based on their fire-fighting capabilities. Common classifications include Class A, B, and C, with Class A fires involving ordinary combustibles, Class B fires involving flammable liquids, and Class C fires involving electrical equipment. ABC powder extinguishers can combat all three classes of fires.
Mounting Options: To ensure quick access in case of an emergency, car fire extinguishers can be mounted using brackets or clips specifically designed for vehicles. It's important to secure the extinguisher in a location where it is easily reachable but won't become a projectile in the event of a collision.
Maintenance: Car fire extinguishers require periodic maintenance to ensure they remain functional. This includes checking the pressure gauge, inspecting for damage or corrosion, and verifying the expiration date. If an extinguisher is damaged or expired, it should be replaced immediately.
Usage: In the event of a fire, car fire extinguishers should be used according to the manufacturer's instructions. The general procedure involves pulling the safety pin, aiming the nozzle at the base of the flames, squeezing the handle to release the extinguishing agent, and sweeping the nozzle from side to side to cover the entire fire area.
Legal Requirements: Some regions and countries may have legal requirements regarding the presence of fire extinguishers in vehicles, especially commercial vehicles. It's essential to check local regulations to ensure compliance.
Training: While using a car fire extinguisher is relatively straightforward, it's a good idea to familiarize yourself with its operation before an emergency arises. Training can help you remain calm and act effectively in a fire situation.
Having a car fire extinguisher in your vehicle is an essential safety precaution that can help you and your passengers respond quickly to a fire emergency. It can prevent small fires from escalating into more significant incidents and potentially save lives.

User questions & answers
Question:
Do I have to renew or replace anything in this extinguisher during the 5 year limited Warranty
Answer:
No.
Question:
Does it have a pressure gauge
Answer:
According to my husband, it does have a pressure gauge.
Question:
How does the mounting system work? What do you mount it to in your car? Do you have to drill holes or modify the car in some way
Answer:
To mount securely you would have to drill holes. This one is actually fairly small so you might be able to secure with those double sided tape pieces with the tabs on that can be removed damage free.
Question:
I know this is for cars, but what about it sitting in the hot sun or freezing cold inside the car? Does it need special protection
Answer:
Fire extinguishers are designed to fight fires, which are hot. What good would it do for an extinguisher to blow up when the temperature reaches nonlethal levels? You can bet that it gets a lot hotter inside a burning house than it does inside your car or truck on a sunny day. Look for one that displays the Underwriters Laboratory label (UL rated). The laboratory requires that extinguishers can be safely stored at minus-40 to plus-120 degrees, a standard that is sometimes posted on the extinguisher. But the laboratory also requires that extinguishers survive 175 degrees for seven days, which is not normally disclosed in product information. A quality, UL-listed extinguisher has a steel cylinder that is designed to withstand six times its normal pressure without bursting.

Take a 3D tour to learn the types of fire extinguishers you need to protect your home.
Multipurpose Protection for Your Family and Home This fire extinguisher contains a multipurpose agent that fights Class A, Class B, and Class C fires. Class A fires involve common combustibles, such as wood, paper, cloth, rubber, trash, and plastics. Class B fires involve flammable liquids, solvents, oil, gasoline, paints, lacquers, and other oil-based products. Class C fires involve energized electrical equipment, such as wiring, controls, motors, machinery, and appliances.
Recommended by Fire Experts for Proven Protection The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommends at least one primary protection fire extinguisher for each level of the home. A primary protection fire extinguisher should have a fairly large capacity and must be UL Rated 2-A:10-B:C or higher. In addition to your primary protection, you should also have UL rated supplementary protection fire extinguishers for additional protection or specific hazards. You should not have to travel more than 40 feet to reach an extinguisher.
After ensuring you have enough primary protection fire extinguishers, place 1-A:10-B:C rated multipurpose fire extinguishers as needed for supplementary protection in bedrooms and living areas.
This supplementary protection fire extinguisher meets the recommendations and needs of:
The National Fire Protection Association: the NFPA 10 Standard for Fire Extinguishers
Underwriters Laboratories (UL): the independent testing lab for fire safety products
Professionals: for more than 90 years, industry leaders, the military, airlines, and firefighters have relied on Kidde fire extinguishers
The Right Solution for an Emergency Situation In an emergency situation, you need a proven technology: a UL-rated fire extinguisher with a handle, a visible pressure gauge, and enough size and capacity to put out a common fire. These features are what makes a fire extinguisher the tool of choice for true fire suppression. Many aerosol can fire products may not be as reliable for fire protection, because they have a short shelf life (only three years in many cases), they do not provide a gauge to verify readiness, and they aren't UL rated. If you are able to react to a small fire when it starts, chances are good that you can stop the fire with the right type of fire extinguisher. Always make sure your extinguisher is pressurized and close at hand for emergency use.
Built to Last and Easy to Use This Kidde Fire Extinguisher is durable and easy to use. The fire extinguisher is warranted for six years, and its metal pressure gauge helps ensure that the fire extinguisher is charged and ready for use. This extinguisher is durable and corrosion resistant, featuring a rust- and impact-resistant nylon handle and a light-but -durable aluminum cylinder. The sure-grip handle and operating lever make the extinguisher less likely to slip from wet or oily hands and easier to operate for people with arthritis or weakness of the fingers. A large bilingual nameplate on the extinguisher provides easy-to-read instructions for use during a fire.

Answer:
I double looped over the hook.
Question:
How many pds in each @ coming with bracet@ how long before expiredt
Answer:
The pegs are a good 1/2 inch around so you would be able to hook a key ring that is at least 1 inch around....
Question:
Are these rated for kitchen fires? i.e. grease fires, cooking fires
Answer:
Overall: 24" W x 6" D x 21" H; Mirror: 17" W x 11" H
Question:
Are there mounting wall rackets for all
Answer:
You are right that the pegs won't hold anything heavy. There is a drill hole in the panel that holds the peg. If you replace with hooks, the backing to the hook would have to be big enough to cover the peg-sized hole. I think it could be done, with the right hooks.
