Answer:	Yes! I just replaced mine and the 12040 is a plug-n-play replacement for the 1275. No changing of electrical or base (if you don't want to.) I changed a couple of bases because of discoloring, however, it didn't need to be done. Very happy with the product.

Answer:	The Kidde i12040 units are "perfect" replacement units (same interface and can swap out) for our previous Kidde 1275 units. I didn't have to change the short electric connector or the ceiling mounting plate. I installed them in early November 2014, and so far all are functioning fine. I replaced four of our six units. When I tested the new detectors, all units -- both the older ones and the new ones -- triggered and alarmed properly. I did replace the mounting units because the old ones were fading... if yours are still in good condition, you don't have to change them. The new plates are identical, and can be installed in the exact same position as the existing plates, and using the existing screws without re-positioning them.Hope this helps. Answer:	Hello. We here at Kidde are not sure what they are talking about with Generation 1 and Generation 2. We did upgrade our model about 10 years ago from the I12060 to the I12060A. A low battery hush feature was added where if you pushed the test button while it was chirping for low battery, it would stop chirping for low battery for 10 hours. Also there were minor changes in how the red LED indicators indicated alarm memory mode and HUSH mode to save on the battery. The boxes for the alarms and descriptions online will still say I12060 but you are nearly guaranteed to get the I12060A in the box. Answer:	I was thinking, if you do find a wireless photoelectric detector, especially one by Kidde, it should work perfectly as you can adjust frequency on each alarm, obviously so a neighbors doesnt match yours as well as for reasons of interference. If you find one, I suggest purchasing one to begin with to test the compatibility. The communications shouldn't be any different in them. Im not sure if you found one already and are just not sure of the compatibility or you simply can't find anything of the sort.

WIth the P4010 wireless alarms, that originating alarm setting off all of the others will have a green light flashing every second while all of the alarms are going off. This will be the alarm you will want to HUSH. This is done intentionally so that you will examine the area where the alarm is before you hush the alarm and the system. These alarms also have a locate feature on them. From the owner's manual: In an interconnected system (all units will be alarming together), a unit that detects smoke or CO and initiates an alarm is called the “initiating alarm unit.” Initiating alarm units will be flashing the Green LED every second during alarm. Depending on unit locations, and the location of the source of smoke or CO, it is possible to have more than one initiating unit. Answer:	Once you activate it, you can't deactivate it. That is the on / off indicated on the unit. There is an off switch indicated on the label. You can scratch off the label where indicated and use a screwdriver to turn the unit off. BUT THE UNIT CAN'T BE TURNED ON AGAIN. It warns you of that on the label. So, once activated, the unit is always on.

Answer:	From my experience this device only begins strobing once the main alarm goes off. It will always have a delay between the main alarm that actually does the smoke detecting and this strobing device which doesn’t do any smoke detecting on its own. By law I believe they need to be wired in. There might be other types of strobing alarms that actually do the smoke detecting themselves, but I don’t think these do from what I remember. If you are testing your alarm you need to let the smoke detector ring for a couple of seconds before the strobe goes off.

Answer:	They need to be physically connected. The other alarm would need to be wired in, not a battery only alarm, and then they need to be connected.

Answer:	There are two possible causes. The unit was not zeroed out upon activation or you do have a very low level of gas in your home atmosphere, with the first being my best guess. Unplug and move and re-check the reading. If this does not resolve the issue send it back for a new one. Mine has worked well for 6 months so far.

Answer:	I returned these detectors. They don't have any information printed on the case - no manufacturer name, no instructions, no UL approved indicator, etc. These were made in China which is usually okay but I am not comfortable in relying on them to protect my family. I will be researching further and looking for better detectors that can be trusted.
