12 best cordless nailers
Cordless nailers are versatile power tools used in woodworking, construction, and DIY projects for driving nails into various materials without the need for a traditional air compressor or electrical cord. These tools are essential for tasks such as framing, finishing, and fastening. Here's what you need to know about cordless nailers:
Types of Cordless Nailers:
- Finish Nailers: These are designed for precision work and are ideal for installing trim, molding, and other finish carpentry tasks. They use smaller, thin nails.
- Framing Nailers: Framing nailers are used for heavy-duty tasks like framing houses and attaching large structural components. They use longer and thicker nails.
- Brad Nailers: Brad nailers are used for delicate trim work and are suitable for attaching thin materials like decorative trim or molding.
- Pin Nailers: Pin nailers use even smaller nails than brad nailers and are excellent for attaching delicate or thin materials without leaving noticeable holes.
- Staplers: Some cordless nailers also function as staplers, which are useful for securing materials together with staples.
Cordless Operation: Cordless nailers are powered by rechargeable lithium-ion batteries. This cordless design provides mobility and convenience, as there are no cords or hoses to manage.
Gas-Powered Models: Some cordless nailers, especially in the framing category, use a combination of a battery and a small gas cartridge to generate the force needed to drive nails. The gas ignites and creates the pressure for nail ejection.
Depth Adjustment: Cordless nailers often come with depth adjustment settings, allowing users to control how deep the nails or staples are driven into the material. This is important for achieving the desired finish and preventing over-driving.
Sequential and Bump Firing Modes: Many cordless nailers offer two firing modes. Sequential mode requires the user to depress the safety tip before each nail is fired, while bump firing mode allows for rapid, continuous firing by simply bumping the tool against the material.
Jam Clearing Mechanisms: Cordless nailers are equipped with mechanisms for clearing nail or staple jams, making them more user-friendly.
Battery Life: The battery life varies depending on the model, the size of the battery, and the type of nails used. It's important to consider battery runtime when choosing a cordless nailer.
Portability: Cordless nailers are highly portable and suitable for use in areas where power sources are limited or inaccessible.
Safety Features: Cordless nailers come with safety features such as no-mar tips to protect the work surface, trigger locks, and anti-dry fire mechanisms to prevent damage to the tool and material.
Cost: Cordless nailers vary in price depending on the type, brand, and features. Framing nailers and more specialized models tend to be more expensive, while brad nailers and pin nailers are typically more affordable.
Cordless nailers offer the convenience of cordless operation without sacrificing power and performance. They are a valuable addition to any toolkit, especially for professionals and DIY enthusiasts who require efficient and versatile fastening solutions.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is it brushless |
Answer: | I believe that it is brushless. I have 2 of the nail guns and they are great. Works fast and sets the nails ever time. Battery lasts a long time as well. |
Question: | Just got the nail gun. somehow it jammed as soon as placed brads in it. it seems to flip the brad. how is that possible? not happy i'm wasting brads |
Answer: | Ummm, yes, this is a finish nailer, big difference from a brad nailer. Make sure you are using 16 gauge 20 degree nails, not 15 gauge, and definitely not 18 gauge brads. This is a great nailer, but I'm not tossing out my Bostitch air nailers to replace it! This is a great supplement to the air nailers for small jobs that only last a day or so. |
Question: | Have they sorted out the Low nail depth issue yet? After some use my contractors say it wont Drive 2-1/2 nails |
Answer: | This is my second Dewalt finish nailer and I have never had any issues with it not driving 2 1/2" nails. That being said, if you are driving several 2 1/2 nails then you need to make sure you are working with a fully charged battery. I have noticed that if the battery gets to a 1/3 charge it will not drive 2 1/2" nails as deep. It also depends on the type of wood (hard or soft). |
Question: | Can this be used for blind nailing tounge and groove paneling |
Answer: | Yes but don't waste your money if you plan on using this gun a lot. I've had mine in the shop 3 times in the year I've owned it. Buy the 18 volt version is more powerful and breaks way less. I've used mine for the last 6 years at least. This new gun will not even drive 2 1/2" nails consistently through soft wood let alone any hard wood. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What size battery do you buy in thextpo2z pin nailer cordless tool |
Answer: | I guess it would depend on the job size you are using it for. I only use it for small jobs, so I only use a two hour amp battery. I guess if you had a larger job you would use an accordingly larger battery. As long as is the 18 V Makita battery. |
Question: | will this gun shoot a slightly headed 23ga nail |
Answer: | Probably not ...gun is very temperamental emend with typical headless pins |
Question: | does it take a special charger for new 6.0 batterys |
Answer: | Not sure but wouldn’t think so...more a battery question than pin nailer related |
Question: | Anybody that have trouble with this gun have issues taking back within 3 year warranty? Thanks for any help |
Answer: | Yes, i had issues with it jamming consistently so i returned it. A new one was sent and same exact issue. These guns have multiple design flaws and operational issues. No you are not losing your mind. Unfortunately this is not a good product from makita |

User questions & answers
Question: | How does this perform on solid hardwood like oak or maple? My 18g Paslode performs great but I'm tired of fuel cells, and expensive repairs |
Answer: | How much do you spend on repairs and fuel cells? do the math and see if it make sense for you. There is no ongoing cost for this exept nails and it seems to work pretty good, Im sure it would preform well on solid hardwood (it will go through a formica countertop no problem and into wood below it). It's a semi precision tool and it wont take much abuse, but overall it really has alot more power than i thought it would. I'd say go for it. |
Question: | What kinda nails does it use, e.g. Bostitch, Freeman, etc |
Answer: | I cannot get my 320 to work with Porter Cable 16 gauge x 2" "Straight Finish Nails." They have a slight "head" to the nail and it seems to stop the gun from working. I've tried adjusting the pressure with no effect. |
Question: | which battery and why doesn't Amazon have a link for that under Frequently bought together |
Answer: | I don't know how you can do the whole house with one battery, I change batteries every 10 minutes, I would like to know what battery you have so I can order it |
Question: | Will it work with 16D framing nails |
Answer: | No it will not. It only works with 18 gauge straight brads. Ignore stop_go_boom's response, as the P325 uses 16 gauge brads, and 16 gauge is not the same as 16D. Look for a framing nailer. This is more suited to light trim work. |
Question: | What power does this brad nailer run on |
Answer: | This nailer runs on Ryobi 18v one+ battery. |
Question: | can you used it for framing |
Answer: | Not for Framing this is a finish nailer |
Question: | Can you adjust for the depth the nail goes into the wood |
Answer: | Yes. There is a dial which works easily. I love this brad nailer! |
Question: | Can you adjust for the depth the nail goes into the wood |
Answer: | After speaking with the vendor, They confirmed that you can adjust nails anywhere between 5/8 - 2 in. What you would do is dial the knob that's on the right side of the tool. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this a straight brad nailer for 5/8"-2" brads or an angled finish nailer 1-1/4 thru 2-1/2 finish nails |
Answer: | THIS IS A STRAIGHT BRAD NAILER. 5/8" - 2". |
Question: | Is this the same battery of 20v max drill |
Answer: | Yes. To my knowledge all "20V Max" tools from DeWALT use the same battery. I have several tools and all the batteries work with all the tools. |
Question: | Please confirm this kit includes the charging unit, battery and bag |
Answer: | Mine came w/ those items since it is a kit & not tool only. |
Question: | Can i nail 2x4 with this im building a garage |
Answer: | Are you being serious? I really hope not! If you are, do not build anything! This gun is designed to fasten trim to walls like baseboard, casing etc. A "framing gun" is designed for "framing"... Dewalt has battery framing guns, they're about $100 more. But don't buy one. Call a pro, have them build your garage. |

The PE2118G features a 2-in-1 bottom-load magazine that is compatible with both 18 gauge brad nails (3/4” to 2”) and 18 gauge 1/4” narrow crown staples (3/4” to 1-5/8”) for maximum versatility. Select either the single firing mode on the side panel to ensure precise fastener placement, or switch to the bump fire contact mode for faster firing speeds. Use the tool-free depth adjustment wheel to customize the firing depth, making it easy to achieve consistent and professional results every time. The no-mar tip protects your work surface (extra no-mar tip included), while the work contact element and two-stage trigger protects the user from accidental firing.
Additional features include a low nail indicator, two built-in side lights for work in dimly lit areas, a built-in tool hook, an ergonomic grip, and easy access to clear jams so you can get back to work quickly. Red and green LED lights indicate when the battery is low, the tool is jammed, fasteners are low, or the tool is overheating.
