Answer:	The toilet seat is a comfortable plastic. It is not as hard as a wooden one nor flimsy. We had one put in our smaller bathroom at the same time we put a wooden one in our bigger bathroom. I liked the plastic more then the wooden one, so replaced the wooden seat. Also, the seat and lid go shut with just a nudge and don't slam like the wooden ones.

Answer:	The seat is 19" d. x 13-1/2" w. - the arms will add 6" to 8" to the width, depending on which position the arms are placed. The bolt center to center is 6". My commode wall width is 22-1/2", so I placed the arms in the narrow position. I had hip surgery and the elongated seat worked perfectly on my small elongated commode. Hope my answers help you.
