Answer:	There is no indication whether the door is locked or not. So, it would be easy to lock yourself out. Most door hardware (the more expensive ones) when you have it in the lock position the post will stick out keeping the door from shutting all the way.

Answer:	What "measurements on the back" are you talking about? These locks are made to fit a particular hasp (which is made to fit only them). If you are trying to adapt one of these locks to a different hasp, then you will be far better off going to a locksmith who has one in stock and taking off the "measurements" yourself.

American still has a web site you can go there to learn everything you need to now. if it is for a van this is the wrong lock. look at the picture. the tabs that overlap stick out and will damage the vehicle next to you in the parking lot. the version that butts together is shorter and won't cause damage. the American lock is far superior to Master version of the same!!!!
