User questions & answers
Question: | Can it be used as a grain mill |
Answer: | This thing has been a workhorse! I use it for grinding whole oats with hulls (sometimes sunflower seeds too) to make up horse feed 2x a day. I grind 4-5 cups each feeding with the setting on coarse, and after almost 2 1/2 years it is just now getting a little dull and heating up to where it quits on me toward the end of the 5th cup. I am getting ready to purchase again even though the first one is still working... just not quite as well. It has never let me down! I have been very happy, considering I have not been using it for its intended use. |
Question: | Is it OK to put a small amount of coffee in the hopper (e.g., enough for one cup) and let the timer turn off after the hopper has been depleted |
Answer: | Probably, but you're far better off using a simple blade grinder such as the Krups. I have a fancy burr grinder that I use for drip, but for my AeroPress I use my Krups oval shaped electric blade grinder. It's under $20 and has been a workhorse for years. When doing my morning cup with my AeroPress (which I highly recommend) there is zero heat build up (see later) for the 17g - 19g that I grind, and zero mess. I grind, tip it over and give it a tap, that's it, no cleanup. Some grounds stick to the inside of the grinder, but I leave them there, no need to scrape them out as they don't interfere with the freshly ground coffee. The AeroPress works best with finely ground coffee so a blade grinder is ideal. If you're doing one cup at a time you don't need a burr grinder. Don't listen to anyone that says you do because it's a myth perpetrated all over the place, but completely baseless. There's hardly any heat generated in the ten seconds it takes to grind with a blade grinder. |
Question: | I've heard this is not a conical burr. can anyone that is not this seller please tell me if it is actually conical or flat like the other cuisinart |
Answer: | There's some confusion here about burr types. This uses a "block" burr, which has some similarities to flat burrs but is vastly inferior. Flat burrs can theoretically be the most consistent, but in practice conical burrs can be just as good in quality grinders. Block burrs are cheap junk, barely better than blade grinders. |
Question: | is this a conical burr grinder |
Answer: | It’s a ceramic flat burr.As for espresso whine, gee, no these machines will not do for high end $$$ espresso machines, spent the $200 plus and stop being cheap, aka whining. This one is OK, just acceptable for my cheap espresso machine. The Bodum BISTRO Burr Grinder, Electronic Coffee Grinder does a better job for espresso in the under $100 range of this ilk, but still will not be up to the standards of whiners. It is odd it doesn’t do coarse ground well, the grid isn’t uniform. The Bodim is conical. |

User questions & answers
Question: | is the carafe glass or stainless steel |
Answer: | It's amazing to me to see comments on anything but what is exactly described within this link for the DCC-3200P1. No, this isn't the DCC-3400. Yes, it has a glass carafe. The description says so in three places. Nowhere does the description mention a stainless carafe - NOWHERE. The photos show glass (I agree two of them have what looks to be coffee brewed, but at least one photo clearly shows an empty GLASS carafe. |
Question: | Can you take the carafe out and pour a cup of coffee before it is totally finished brewing (without it continuing to drip |
Answer: | Yes you can pour a cup of coffee before it is totally finished brewing. It does not drip. Once you return carafe it just finishes filling. There is no problem with a drip. Per the instructions. It tells you it is ok to do and it works perfectly |
Question: | Whar, besides style, is the difference between dcc3200 and dcc |
Answer: | Taste: Coffee in the 3200 is more flavorful. A new machine might be expected to be better, but I think they've gotten the flow and temperature of the brewing process better.Temperature: The brewed coffee is much hotter. Both units have three temperature settings for the hot plate, but the settings on the 3200 are hotter.Size and Capacity. The 3200 handles 14 cups compared to the 1200's 12 cups. Yet as you can see from the photos, they are the same height to fit on a counter. They seem to get the extra capacity by making the 3200 a little deeper from front to back. We've been surprised at how useful the extra capacity is.Carafe: The new glass carafe is just like the old one, only larger. It pours nicely with or without the lid on it. The new lid works the same as the old one, popping off and on. (I read some complaints about the lid on an intervening model with a spring opening, but if so, they fixed that by going back to the 1200 style). As far as I can tell, there isn't a version of the 3200 designed for a thermal carafe like there is for the 12-cup models. I prefer the glass carafe because it keeps the coffee hotter longer, and I can always pour the coffee into a thermal carafe if I want to.Water Filling. The bigger size also increases the size of the water fill hole. The lid on the top of the 3200 unit raises to 90 degrees straight up, where the lid on the 1200 tilted further back and out of the way. Still the 3200 is easier to fill, and I suspect that the restriction on the tilt may help preserve the integrity of the hot water tube.Sneak a Cup. Taking out the carafe to sneak a cup during brewing worked great on the 1200 with little dripping, and still does on the 3200.Basket. The basket on the 3200 is very similar to the 1200, but a slightly different shape to accommodate more grounds for 14 cups. Actually, grounds just barely fit with a 4 cup paper filter in the new basket, and sometimes go above the filter in the basket. The basket actually seems more designed for the included gold filter.Water filter. The 3200 uses the exact same carbon filters and filter holder as the 1200, but the holder seems to fit more snugly in its hole, which may help prevent clogging (see below)Beep. The 3200 allows you to turn of the coffee-ready beep if you want.Controls. Controls on the 3200 are a little easier. The 3200 uses all push buttons with no switches. Separate hour and minute settings make it a little easier to program and set the clock. There is a new "Bold" setting which does indeed seem to result in stronger coffee. There is still a setting for smaller, 1-4 cup pots, but I never use that. You can still set the hot plate to stay hot for up to 4 hours, which is important to me. There is a fairly bright blue glow from the LED display on the 3200.Cleaning. There was a sensor button on the hot plate of the 1200 that's gone on the 3200, so the plate stays cleaner. The extra stainless steel looks good on the 3200 but probably shows smudges more and might benefit from special cleaner fluids.Coffee Grounds Overflowing and Clogging. This was the biggest problem before, and I don't know if it's fixed, but it seems better. On the 1200, if you put too many coffee grounds in the filter it could overflow in the brewing process, and sometimes grounds would get into the water system and clog the tube. The 1200 was designed not to be repairable, but customers tried anyway with some difficulty. After one successful repair, we eventually had to replace the 1200. So far, we have not had any overflow issues with the 3200. The larger basket (with possibly a bigger drip opening), the deeper reservoir and longer case, and the more stable, non-tilting lid may help with this, but we will see how it works over time. I do notice that they made the bottom panel easier to remove, with regular screws instead of Torx, if it ever comes to that. My one tip for users is to always use the filter holder with a filter in it, even if your water is fine, because that should help prevent grounds from getting into the heating system. In all, the 3200 is an excellent replacement for the 1200, and worth the extra money if you are choosing between the two models new. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this Cuisinart have a smaller bowl insert |
Answer: | I hear you. I've got a Kitchenaid I'm looking to replace that has a bowl insert, it's easier to grind spices than the full bowl. |
Question: | How thin does cabbage come |
Answer: | Has anyone used the 2mm blade (sold separately) to slice cabbage for coleslaw? Not sure if the included 4mm slicing blade is the only size I'll need. Thanks |
Question: | this is the model highest rated by ci and atk. so is anyone else ready to rant about the safety feature getting all gross with food? true or false |
Answer: | I don't get it. We love this food processor but can't stand to wash it. Would not put it in the dishwasher. Everything gets stuck in the top and in the mechanism for the top. And it's clear plastic so you can see all the food caught in there, but there is no way to get it out. We can't figure out how it gets in there in the first place. We use the machine as directed. We wash it immediately after use every single time. I try to use the spray at the sink to get the debris out, doesn't help. Tried soaking it. Tried just at least spraying vinegar inside it to prevent bacteria from building up. We have only had it 5 years and have wanted to replace the bowl and top and Cuisinart is out of stock. And I saw them on sale on Amazon for $45. for just the bowl. And the food processor has gone up in price by $50. since we bought it in 2015. So, I am now actively looking for a replacement for this machine, even though it's still working fine. I can't deal with the clean up any more. Or with what I consider a health hazard having all that debris in there fermenting. |
Question: | Is this model the same as or different from cuisinart dfp-14bcn (no y at end of the model number |
Answer: | DFP-14BCNY does not have the recalled rivetted blades. This is the 'good' model to get as of the recall notice that came out today 12/16/2016 |

- Double insulated freezer bowl eliminates the need for ice
- Easy lock Transparent lid with Large spout makes adding ingredients simple and mess free.
- Limited 3-year
User questions & answers
Question: | is the mixing paddle supposed to turn? mine doesn't seem to do that, just the container turns |
Answer: | Just read and review booklet instructions and it states the bowl and not the paddle turns. I also thought I had a defective ice cream machine until I re-read directions. Cuisinart should really print in boldface this fact. Would definitely save much aggravation. I love my Cuisinart ice cream machine !!! |
Question: | does this make good yogurt |
Answer: | I make frozen yogurt with this every week, and my recipe is SO easy: 1 quart VANILLA (not plain) yogurt, 1 pkg thawed frozen cherries (or berries of any type). No salt, no sugar, no milk, no nothin' else. Turn it on for 20 minutes and you're done. Yummy frozen yogurt. Other favorite flavors, always beginning with VANILLA yogurt: 1) coconut and chopped pecans; 2) 1/2 cup of mini chocolate chips |
Question: | Can I make ice cream using this machine without eggs?, and does the maker come with a recipe book |
Answer: | I stopped using eggs because for some reason, the ice cream would freeze too hard. I now use: 1 cup cream, 2 cup half-and-half, 3/4 cup sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla, 1 teaspoon vodka (helps the freezing), pinch of salt, pinch of cinnamon. It's great. |
Question: | As soon as my ice cream maker is full it continually roams around the counter what's up with that |
Answer: | That sometimes happens due to having an extremely flat surface and moisture condensation buildup underneath the ice cream maker. It's science not magic. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this device make yogurt |
Answer: | The description says that it can make frozen yogurt - to just use the ice cream setting. Cook's has a delicious recipe for frozen ginger yogurt, including instructions on how to keep it from tasting chalky or being too "icy". |
Question: | Can I purchase extra bowls to freeze in refrigerator and if so, where do I go or what is the part number on Amazon to acquire them |
Answer: | I bought the Tovolo Ice cream tubs and they are very sturdy with a removable inner plastic liner for easy cleaning. The large bowl itself that fits inside the machine is not supposed to have ice cream frozen in it because it can damage it. I leave the empty bowl in my freezer until I'm ready to make a batch and then empty the contents into a Tovolo tub. I looked at other tubs but this brand seemed to have the best reviews, was reusable, and decent in price. They fit about 1.5 quarts and I have a little extra in the machine that I either eat or just put in a small Tupperware dish. I know you can go directly on the Cuisinart website if you need any part numbers for a specific model. I did see extra bowls for the machine on their site and on amazon. Just get your model number for your machine and type that in the search box. |

Question: | Has anyone tried making Gelato? How does it turn out |
Answer: | Gelato turns out very good. My wife tried a few different variations of coffee flavored gelato and we were happy every single time. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Why won't my lid stay on |
Answer: | Because the plastic dasher/paddle gets warped (at first I thought it was from washing the paddle in the dishwasher, but I'm on my second machine after maybe five years and washing it in hot water after using it seems to have done the same thing so perhaps it's just from use) and so it doesn't revolve "flatly" in the circular groove in the clear plastic cover when it's placed on top. I find that eventually it seems to settle down and revolve evenly without any wobbling, so to speak. Rather than use tape, I've used a small but heavy pan with a base a bit larger than the top of the machine set on top of the clear plastic cover until it's revolving evenly - maybe the first five minutes of use. Other than that, and the need to use a hard - but not too hard: it has to have some flex - plastic utensil to remove the last of the frozen ice cream from the interior bottom and sides of the freezer bowl because it's made of aluminum and scratches incredibly easily, it's a terrific unit. |
Question: | my machine will not freeze the mixture after the tub in freezer for a week. its like cold milk with some ice. two different batches same results. Why |
Answer: | Quality ice cream from plain milk?? no way! I use half and half along with heavy cream and get the most delicious ice cream you can imagine! and in only 25 minutes. Also turn your freezer down. If your freezer is empty it may not even go to zero degrees! I clean and rinse the tub quickly and return it to the freezer quickly. Its still mostly frozen when I put it back in and only takes 2-3 hours to refreeze completely! I bought a second tub but never need to use it! This thing has worked perfectly for me and everyone loves my ice cream! The secret is in the better ingredients. more costly yes...but sooo worth it! My recipe: 3cups of half and half. 2cups of heavy cream. 1&1/2 cups of C&H sugar dissolved in the cream. 2 table spoons of imitation vanilla. 1 tiny pinch of salt. Try you will love it! Please don't order a round steak and expect a filet mignon. life does not happen that way. ENJOY! |
Question: | Is the interior of the mixing bowl stainless steel |
Answer: | The interior of the mixing bowl scratched after first use. So I don't think it is stainless steel |
Question: | Is Cuisinant ICE-30BC machine easier than Cuisinart ICE-21 to use |
Answer: | They both look exactly the same in function, its just the 21 is a bit smaller and has more plastic. Check this guy's video on Youtube and it breaks down the ICE-21. http://youtu.be/jPPdSCHBTR4And he did the same for the ICE-30BC: http://youtu.be/Q40vHKdJmpY |

Question: | Can you make dairy free ice cream in this |
Answer: | Yes. I make my shake with almond milk in my Blender then pour it into the ice cream machine. It comes out great. |
Question: | Does this really only make 1 quart? It is showing larger dimensions than the 1.5 quart (identical looking) cuisinart ice cream maker |
Answer: | Recipes call for 3 cups of ice cream mix. By the time it is frozen and aerated it makes about 1 qt. |

Answer: | Short answer: no. Dissolved solids are what suppress the freezing point and sugars are your primary source of these. You can reduce sugars by substituting some other solids, like nonfat dry milk (make sure to get 100% skim milk solids). Is your goal reducing sweetness or reducing caloric sugar? If the former, change the sugars you use. Use a mix of dextrose (pure glucose) and table sugar. Dextrose is only 70% as sweet but has nearly double the freezing point suppression. If you want sweetness but no the sugar calories, a portion of the sugar can be replaced by non-digestible sugar alcohols. I'd recommend erythritol. But be careful; if you consume too much it can cause digestive discomfort. And it doesn't taste 100% like sugar. I wouldn't substitute more than 60% of the sugar or so. |
Question: | Can I make a pint of ice cream in one use, or do I have to make the full 1.5 qt |
Answer: | Absolutely you can. And like Calvin said, the less ice cream you make the faster it freezes. I have had mine for over a year now and it continues to work flawlessly. Excellent product. |
Question: | Trying to decide between Cuisinart ICE-100 and Breville BCI600XL. Would love your thoughts |
Answer: | I bought this machine at an estate sale for $15. It looked like it had never been used. I just pulled it out after about 3 months. With no experience at all having made ice cream I watched some YouTube videos and decided on a custard base (made with egg yolks). I pour straight into the machine hot from the stove and in about an hour and 20 minutes I have soft serve ice cream. It’s the best I’ve ever had. The machine is a dream! It’s SOOOOO. Easy to use AND addictive! My first day I made 3 quarts of frozen custard. I don’t think I’ll ever buy ice cream at the store again. |
Question: | Really? (Amazon) claims 45% savings off price ($545). Come one, retail price from Cusinart is $299. zero/nada/0 % savings |
Answer: | Yup, I agree. It is sad indeed that I have to go to other online retailers to figure out the current retail price vs what Amazon calculates it to be to raise the % to make it look like a steal....and after seeing that I am only getting like $4 off of a high priced item, then most daily deals that grab my attention go ignored after calculating the tax vs. Eb @i which still doesn't charge tax. It reminds me of a store that opened up about 10 years ago at the mall. They sold made in china houshold furniture that looked nice. They would have a cheap made wooden chair with a ticket price of $499 but since the store was always at a "closing sale" then you could get everything on the store at a whopping 75% off! That store had a closing sale till it did close about 8 years later. |

Question: | Will this work, if i want to use it to transfer the ice cream i made? to keep the ice cream cold for a longer time during the travel? say 30 minutes |
Answer: | Yes, I re-freeze this after making sorbet/ice cream and then put the frozen treat in a container that fits inside. I thencover with another cold/freezer pack and put in cooler bag. After 1.5 hours of driving the sorbet was still solid. |
Question: | Has anyone ever successfully made 2 batches of ice cream without re-freezing the canister between productions |
Answer: | I have tried it and no, the second batch did NOT freeze up properly. Since I often have two flavors when I entertain, or need more than 1 and 1/2 quarts of ice cream, I bought a second canister. NOW I can make two batches in a row. |
