13 best fastpitch softball ball size
Fastpitch softball balls are typically standardized in terms of size, weight, and materials used. The specifications for fastpitch softball balls are set by governing bodies such as the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) and the International Softball Federation (ISF). Here are the key details about the size of a fastpitch softball ball:
Circumference: A standard fastpitch softball has a circumference of 11 to 12 inches (28 to 30.5 centimeters). The exact size may vary slightly based on the specific league or organization's regulations.
Weight: A standard fastpitch softball ball weighs between 6.25 to 7.00 ounces (177 to 198 grams). Again, the precise weight can depend on the governing body's rules.
Core: The core of a fastpitch softball is typically made of materials such as polyurethane or cork. The core contributes to the ball's weight and compression characteristics.
Cover: The cover of a fastpitch softball is usually made of synthetic materials, such as leather or synthetic leather. This cover provides durability and grip for the pitchers.
Compression: The compression of a fastpitch softball is an important factor in its performance. Different leagues may have specific compression requirements to ensure consistent play.
It's important to note that the specific regulations for fastpitch softball balls may vary depending on the age group and level of play. For example, youth leagues might use slightly smaller and lighter balls to accommodate younger players.
Understanding the size and weight of a fastpitch softball is crucial for players, coaches, and umpires to ensure fair and safe gameplay. Always refer to the rules and regulations of the league or organization in which you are participating for precise details on ball size and other equipment requirements.

User questions & answers
Question: | Will these work well for pitching practice |
Answer: | Only after I reported to Amazon that I received 1 ball for that price. They shipped me all 12 shortly after |
Question: | Are they 12" softballs |
Answer: | Yes, suitable for throwing off wall. Not sure about rebound. |
Question: | What size are the softballs |
Answer: | Doesn't matter, look at other reviews, don't buy them. They will fall apart after a few hits with a bat. |
Question: | What size are the softballs |
Answer: | My granddaughter has played softball for many years and says you use the same ball for either "fast pitch" or "slow pitch". The difference is in the deliver speed of the ball being machine thrown, or hand thrown. So yes you can use the same ball for both - depending on who is playing the ball size may be different (ask coach which size will be best to purchase for your game). |

SIZE 11
Ready to go play ball? Grab your glove, bat and Champion Sports Rhino Core softballs and get to the diamond! Our medium-compression softballs feature a .47 COR cork core for more durability and less bounce, which is safer for younger and less experienced players. The smaller 11-inch circumference is standard in youth leagues.
OPTIC YELLOW BALLS
Coaches tell you to watch the ball hit the bat and look it all the way into your glove, but that can be tough when you can barely see it! To improve your visibility on the field and in the batter’s box, we selected a vibrant optic yellow cover instead of plain white which is difficult to see, especially high up in the sky. Now you’ll be able to easily follow the ball’s path whether it’s on the ground or in the air!
SYNTEX LEATHER COVER
A smooth Syntex synthetic leather cover allows the softballs to roll right off your fingertips, resulting in a better throwing motion and improved aim for all players. The cover is also incredibly durable to withstand even the hardest hits, which can easily cause lower quality balls to fall apart.
RAISED SEAMS
Looking to improve your accuracy on the mound or in the field? The ball’s raised seams enhance your grip, helping fielders get the out and send batters back to their bench. Pitchers will absolutely benefit as well, as their grip is crucial for controlling pitches and racking up those strikes. The red stitching helps you quickly locate the seam and offers a classic look.
12 PACK
Our official 11” softballs are used in girls fast pitch, youth softball and some slow pitch softball leagues. Ideal for practices, games and training at home, they’re the ones you can depend on for a long time to come.

User questions & answers
Question: | How many softballs are included in this price |
Answer: | It's tricky math. I thought I was getting 12 with the special 40 percent off or so. Turns out I got half the balls for half the price. Big joke. Got 2 boxes of 6. Will not buy from them again but their price per ball is in line with the market. Balls are good just hate the games being played |
Question: | are they fastpitch or slow pitch |
Answer: | Slow pitch |
Question: | How much do each of the 12 inch balls weigh |
Answer: | I haven't weighed them personally but they feel like the other 12 inch fast pitch balls. Around 6 to 7 ounces. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How do these softballs differ from the thunder heat asa certified balls with red seams? are the raised seams the same |
Answer: | 12 |
Question: | How do these usssa certified balls differ from asa certified? are they the same ball? are the seams raised to the same degree on both |
Answer: | Yes these softballs are good for batting practice. I gave them to my granddaughter, who plays on a traveling team and a school time. I would say during the season she uses them 2-3 times a day in the off season she uses them several times a week when weather permits. They hold their shape and form. Hope this helps you with your purchase. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the round ring at the end of the strap for? I don’t know which one to pick for my 13yr old travel ball pitcher. Composite, 2nd gen, ultimate |
Answer: | The round ring is a safety device to keep the ball and Xelerator from separating. It should rarely if ever be an issue that the two should separate. however better safe than sorry. When the pitcher puts on the Xelerator she should adjust it so that the ball and tube are 2 to 3 inches apart. To adjust the strap length insert the pitcher's hand in the loop between the the ball and cord lock. To shorten the strap squeeze the cord lock and slide it down the strap toward the ball. To lengthen the strap do the opposite. In terms of which Xelerator to chose. First of all she will need a 12 inch ball because of her age. Now she has to chose between a leather ball and a foam one. Leather feels better to the pitcher however it is about 40 percent heavier when you chose leather. This makes the Xelerator seem a little more when spinning. The second generation has all the same options as the others that you have named. You can have in Leather ball or foam and 11 inch or 12 inch. The other Xelerators that you have named all come with a rope versus and strap. The second generation went to a strap to make it lighter, more flexible and easier on the skin of the wrist. There are only two businesses that build and sell the Xelerator. The Xelerator was created by a partnership of Steve and Ken. I chose to dissolve the partnership as we do business different. When it was dissolved I chose to change the design to what I felt was better for my Pitchers. I am the pitching coach and have been on for over 30 years. Steve and his daughter were my clients. Hope that helps. Feel free to ask further questions if you chose. Thanks Ken |
Question: | Does this come with instructional DVD |
Answer: | This does come with an instructional video. I also have a written insert that adds additional insert with my phone number on it for questions and suggestions. Thanks for asking Ken |
Question: | My daughter will only be usi g an 11" ball for a couple of more months. Would it be ok for her to practice with the 12" ball |
Answer: | I’m gonna have to buy a new one soon, since either fall ball or definitely spring she will move up to 12u. When we throw at home, I have her throw some 12 in balls. To help with grip and spin. Hope this helped |
Question: | How do i know if this fits? i keep reading that you should enter your model number to ensure it fits. where would i even enter it and why |
Answer: | The second generation Xelerator except maybe the extreme , like maybe a 4 or 5 year old, will fit anyone. To adjust the strap length insert the pitchers hand in the loop between the ball and Cord Lock. To shorten the strap squeeze the Cord Lock and slide it down the strap toward the ball. To lengthen the strap do the opposite. The tube should be 2 to 3 inches from the ball. If the tube hits the ground the pitcher is probably too small to use an Xelerator. I have decreased its weight so that it weighs about 10 to 11 ounces with the foam ball. Feel free to ask any questions you have. I have pitched competitively for 15 years and have coached for over 30. Thank you for your interest. 503-8352100 Ken |
