Answer:	It’s just slightly under an inch in diameter. It was suppose to fit the Bogen monopod I have but didn’t. Luckily my brother was able to machine an adapter ring to put on the bottom end of my monopod so it would work. Otherwise, it’s great for when you don’t/can’t lug a tripod along. And I like that the angle of the base can be adjusted.

Answer:	The solid base is good for flat ground or a flat shooting surface. The hinged base allows the rifle to be rotated on its axis. Imagine that you are laying on a hillside, the legs of the bipod are equal length, one leg up the hill one leg down the hill. Your rifle is rotate 30 degrees to the right, the hinge allows you rifle to rotate the 30 degrees back to horizontal. I am not sure that the picture is completely accurate. it looks like a fixed version. you might want to check the Harris website. I have the fixed and it is perfect for for my basic shooting and I think less clunky. I hope this is helpful.
