Answer:	This is a very sturdy ironing board. There is a very thick plastic 'spacer' if you will between the leg bars, and the other plastic piece is the black, circular leg clip (to hold the board together when folded). I think this is the best board out there, and the pieces I described are very solid, thick plastic - almost glass like. Hope this helped you.

Answer:	I was able to pry the iron rest away from the board. It is a chrome piece that fits (tight) over a white rod that is welded to the frame. I slightly bent the tabs at the end of the chrome piece with a small screwdriver and then used a larger screw driver to pry between the board and the chrome piece, moving the piece about 1/4 inch away from the board so that I could install the superior board cover made by Refrze. I pulled the cover tight and tapped the chrome piece back into place with a hammer, using a small piece of wood to protect the finish. I could have removed the chrome piece completely but that wasn't my purpose. If I had, the white rods would remain and extend about 3 inches--these could be cut off with a hacksaw or sawzall, if desired.
