Answer:	I just tried putting up to 20 lbs and I don't think this would work. It's not so much the wicker but it's the two vinyl straps that may break with this much weight. I just put my purse, maybe lunch and beverage in it. I don't think it's large enough for a backpack with that much weight. You would be better to get a steel or aluminum basket that would hold up better. Hope this helped.
