Answer:	It plugs into an outlet. It uses a small fountain pump and charcoal filters which need to be replaced periodically. The fountain is pretty quiet. It is the only one my cats will use. Needs to be disassembled and cleaned every 2 weeks as a film will develop that the cats don't like. Water reservoir lasts about 3-4 days for 2 indoor cats. Hope this helps. I am on my second one. The first pump lasted about 6 years of 24/7 usage.

Anyways, the bigger, noiseless Drinkwell Platinum is actually half price now at Chewy . com - I got it for $31.00 just two days ago (11-23-15) and it's already been shipped! I can't wait to go back to the drinkwell my cats really loved! They hardly drank out of this one. I always have an extra ceramic dog-sized bowl of water for them as well, and with this fountain, they were always drinking out of the bowl, but they sure do LOVE the Drinkwell Platinum which usually costs about $60-something dollars, but at Chewy . com which I came across while cost-comparing, right now it's only $31.00, I couldn't believe it! If you go there, I recommend getting the cheap cleaning brushes all in one pack and a few extra packages of charcoal filters (3 to a pack). But yes, this one here definitely makes noise! The one I bought earlier this month I wouldn't even give away, I stuffed it in the trash I was so disappointed!

Answer:	I bought one of these 3 years ago (2015) and that one worked great! You could not hear a thing when the water was full. I have it in my office and I never heard a single noise from it. The motor recently died on me so I decided to buy a new one since I loved this one so much. The new one is MUCH nosier than the old one. I am not sure why because they look identical, but there must be something different about the pump because it makes a constant, vibrating noise that is very distracting. I am going to take Sage_Eagle's advice and see if I can reposition it to make it less noisy, but I am very disappointed in the new one i just bought. If I cannot find a way to reduce the noise I will return it.

Answer:	I also fill use filtered water from the refrigerator in our cat's fountain. I clean the fountain, including the pump, once a week and rinse the filter really well (water only, no soap). Once a month, I replace the filter with a new one.

Answer:	I also use mine plastic side up because my cats don't like the blue top piece piece and they didn't like the texture of the foam when they licked the water. I have had no problems with the filter working. I use Brita filtered water and change it out every 2 weeks, rinsing the filter out at that time.
Question:	What are the dimensions of the cave
Answer:	It is normal and very simple to fix. The issue is not lack of water, but debris getting stuck to the pump rotor, causing a vibration. Remove the pump. Remove the slotted cover from the front of the pump. Remove the circular cover which sits directly behind the slotted cover. At this point you will see the yellow rotor. Remove the rotor by pulling it out. It's held in place by magnets. Clean the rotor and reinstall. Problem solved.
Question:	I bought this for my cats last Christmas. Can you buy replacement scratch posts? They have tore off all the rope
