Answer:	I'm not sure but I will tell you this. Any HD connected to the StarTech , I bought the 2.5/3.5" SATA/IDE version, is recognized. It's basically an external HD. I would say yes. Just make sure the drive is powered!

Answer:	I have not tried connecting a USB 3 device into an eSATA port, so I can't offer advice. Those already responding say this won't work. Also, remember this cable will work fine for a connection with only 1 device. In my case I was connecting two external drives (in a BlackX Duet external Dock Station) via an eSATA connection into one USB3 port on my computer. For this to work the convertor cable or device must support the Port Multiplier protocol. This StarTech cable does not. However, Amazon also offers a DATOptic convertor which DOES support this protocol and has been working fine for me.
