User questions & answers

Question: Is there a tenor or bass version of this
Answer: I use the alto head on a concert flute body to give me the richer tone of the recorder and the versatility of the flutes keys. RecorderFlute?
Question: What key is this in? B flat or E flat
Answer: I don't know if there is any difference from a musical standpoint. The finish is different (312 is a rosewood finish and 314 is an ebony finish). Other than that, I believe they are the same. However, I will say that they Yamaha alto recorder gives a nice sound.
Question: I purchased this item on december 3, 2017. now it is april 17, 2018, and it hasn't shipped. when will i get this item
Answer: The other answers are incorrect. There are indeed altos made in different keys. Your choices are F and G, both either in A-440 or A-415. Plastic alto recorders are only made in F at A-440. There is set to be released, however, an A-415 plastic alto by Zen-on later this year.
Question: What kind of reed does it use
Answer: Hi! They are both exactly the SAME DESIGN - the only difference being the finish in the 312B sporting a synthetic woodgrain look (either the walnut or other 314B). Interesting enough, although the difference is by having just a layer of something wrapped or sealed into the resin, it's widespread knowledge that somehow the 312B and 314B with the synthetic woodgrain finish ACTUALLY sound better.I forget what the material is made of but if you touch a 302 and a 312/314, you will feel that the latter is cooler to the touch AKIN some metal low conductivity metal. But do not quote me on this.

User questions & answers

Question: Where is this made
Answer: The instrument is made in Indonesia and the little carrying bag case is made in India. Yamaha is a very durable brand.
Question: the description states it is made in the US, but what does the packaging say
Answer: made in Indonesia
Question: does it come with case
Answer: It comes with a cloth draw string bag.
Question: has anyone compared this with the Yamaha YRS24B series ivory-colored models? Is this exactly the same, or different in feel and tone
Answer: I teach a recorder class for high school students and we have about 20 models of the ivory recorders and about 15 of the colorful 20BG recorders. For whatever reason, the coloful models do seem to speak a little bit more easily, but both set the bar fairly high for plastic recorders-- way better than any of the other models we've purchased, including the more expensive brown and beige 302B Yamaha model (which looks great, but is quiet and does not hit the low notes as easily as this model.)

Product features

Start with great sound

Yamaha has been building musical instruments for more than 130 years, so we know what it takes to make a great sound. Our 20-series models produce a classic recorder tone that's pure and in tune across the whole instrument.

Easy for beginners

20-series recorders make it easy to play right from the start. The rectangular airway gives very little resistance, so even a light breath can make a clear note. A great choice for classrooms or beginners of any age!

Durable and safe

Made from the same kind of plastic used in countless popular toys, Yamaha 20-series recorders are built to last for years of reliable use. They can even be washed with soap and water, so keeping them clean is easy.

Colorful choices

Our see-through blue, green and pink models are playful, but produce the same great sound as our standard ivory colored models. Have fun with your music without sacrificing your tone.

Baroque vs German fingering - what's the difference?

The basic design of recorders was developed hundreds of years ago during the Baroque music period of the 1600's and early 1700's. This classical style is still preferred by many music teachers and schools, mostly because some specific notes play a little better in tune with this design.

In the 1920's, instrument designers in Germany felt that the standard Baroque recorder was too difficult for beginners to learn, since some notes put the player’s fingers in positions that can feel uncomfortable. Because of this, they made a small change to make those notes easier for a beginner to play. However, there's a trade-off – while the finger positions are easier, those same notes are harder to play in tune.

You can tell which version you have by looking at the 4th and 5th holes down from the top. If the 4th hole is smaller than the 5th, it's Baroque. If the 4th hole is larger, it's German. If you need a recorder to use in school, check with your teacher to make sure you get the right type!

Yamaha YRF-21Y Plastic Fife, Key of C

The Yamaha YRF-21Y Fife is played to the side like a flute but with open holes and simple fingerings like a recorder. This makes it a good way to transition recorder players or introduce new musicians to playing the flute. It can also be used to play traditional Fife music, like songs from American revolutionary War. The durable and lightweight ABS plastic body comes apart into two pieces for easy cleaning. Key of C.

  • Key of C
  • 2 piece ABS plastic body
  • Open hole fingerings
  • Molded flute-style lip plate
  • Includes cotton carrying bag and fingering chart

User questions & answers

Question: Can you play #s and flats like regular flute
Answer: Yes, you can play flat and sharp notes. The notes are not all the exact same as on a regular flute. Some are more similar to recorder, some more similar to flute. Only the sharp c- do (flat d-re) is a bit hard, since it isn't double hole, and that hole is small. It comes with a fingering chart. I really enjoy it.
Question: What material is this made out of
Answer: Plastic.
Question: Is the holes too close for an adult's hands
Answer: I don't think so. Of course, if you have the hands of a giant, you might disagree with me. (I'm an adult male.) The instrument is a bit tricky to play due to the need to land your fingers perfectly and to adjust the distance between the head and the body at the joint to produce a proper tone. You'll find that you have to barely shade the outer edge of a finger hole to produce enharmonic notes. Hope this helps.
Question: what is the difference between this product and a soprano recorder keyed to c
Answer: It being transverse (held sideways) or vertically basically makes absolutely no difference. Transverse is typically preferred( partially its because of the sound profile created by blowing over a curved hole, but mostly its because the range on a flute is huge compared to other primitive flutes). A recorder, while tuned to C, can play a chromatic scale (black and white piano keys) over 2 octaves, with 1 extra note. This fife doe not support chromatic movement, so while the aural profile may be sweeter than a fipple flute( recorders are fipples... but so are pipe organs..) you have much less control over the music you can play. IN SHORT, if you want to replicate early colonial fife music (mostly used for marches and the like) then this is a good instrument. If you're looking for something more like a flute, go with the recorder, even though they aren't held the same, the way you play it is way more similar ( PS recorders and transverse (think silver sideways flutes) share MANY of the same fingerings and are very easy to go back and forth between) To put my answer in perspective, I was a music education student and am a renaissance music enthusiast who plays the reorder (with a renaissance group) and flute very often.

Yamaha 4C Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece, Standard Series

Yamaha

Based on 496 reviews Check latest price

Product description

Yamaha standard series 4C mouthpiece for alto sax.

  • Yamaha's official original-equipment 4C alto sax mouthpiece, identical to what's included with new Yamaha standard, intermediate and professional series alto saxophones.
  • The 4C size was designed by Yamaha so that even a beginner can make a terrific sound.
  • Made from safe and durable phenol resin plastic.
  • State of the art manufacturing produces an extremely high quality and consistent mouthpiece
  • Fits any brand of standard alto saxophone.

User questions & answers

Question: What is the difference between a 5c & 4c Yamaha mouthpiece
Answer: The inside bore on the 5C is larger than the 4C. The 4C is an ideal mouthpiece for a beginner player while you develope your embouchure. The 5C is typically ideal for an intermediate and advanced player.
Question: Does this come with a reed
Answer: No it does not come with a reed, ligature, or a cap. It is just the mouthpiece and the box. A good tip for the future would also be that if you get a free reed with something it likely isn't going to be very good, unless it is name band.
Question: Comes with ligature
Answer: It does not come with a ligature. I don't recommend ordering Yamaha's ligature for this, especially online.
Question: Will this fit on a Glory alto sax
Answer: I do not own a Glory alto but I do own (or have owned) a total of four alto Saxophones. The necks are standard fit. That being said, the mouthpiece fits over a piece of cork. The thickness of the cork can be different from neck to neck and the cork will wear over time. It is easily replaceable and inexpensive to have a professional do. If it does not fit right out of the box, but it should, it is an easy and cheap fix. To extend the life of the cork, be sure to use cork grease regularly.

User questions & answers

Question: Does this case fit yamaha fg
Answer: Reasonbly well. I bought it for its very light yet strong and cushy design. ANY hard case would probably protect ANY unattended (flight baggage, etc) better. For my use and wear its perfect, all my guitars don't travel or fly at all, very far and are never unattended.
Question: Hello. Do you also ship to Italy
Answer: Interior Dimensions Body Length: 19.00 " Body Height: 3.38 " Lower Bout Width: 12.75 " Middle Bout Width: 12.75 " Upper Bout Width: 12.75 " Overall Length: 39.50 "
Question: Will this case fit the yamaha cgs102a half-size classical guitar
Answer: I don't think it would be wide enough
Question: I have a question about the soft case: is it thin and flexible, or more stiff and padded
Answer: I don't think it will...headstock will not reach up to the upper cut out "section" for the standard 34" scale headstock....in other words, the short scale headstock would lay right where the C- shaped neck cut out for the 34" is.....hope this makes sense....

Question: is the neck as wide as a martin, like a D-28 or fender strat or mostly for kids
Answer: Realize, this is Uk. Not guitar. Difference is it's somewhat tuned/stringed like guitar but in 5th frt position. Neck is narrow, as in Ukulele. Adults play ukulele too but don't expect to be like guitar, ie. Martin or Strat.
Question: can i use snigjat guitar stand(https://www.amazon.com/dp/b07wdpwczh/ref=sr_1_39?keywords=guitar+stand) with yamaha gl1 guitalele

User questions & answers

Question: OK for a beginner > 60, or too late
Answer: I'm 52 and didn't have any trouble with it. Just be aware that a bass recorder requires a lot more air than the smaller ones, and it needs to be a steady stream. Making the bass make a good sound improved my breath control and fingering in a way that helped on the other recorders.
Question: Can someone explain the extreme cost of bass recorders? the yamaha over $200, the aulos over $350!! for a mass production piece of plastic
Answer: Anything not as popular--is more expensive. There is less demand for the bass recorder, so, they don't make as many, and therefore, it is more money and resources to produce them--with a bigger risk of losing money for the company/factory. This is why a cheap electric guitar is under 100 dollars--and the normal, school recorder is cheap--mas production. People could not afford cars--until Henry Ford created mass production--and bank loans.
