Answer: | 12 inches |
Question: | Does the amp have a master volume |
Answer: | Good day, No master volume control. Regards, |
Question: | I am planning to take the unit to China. Does it take 220V |
Answer: | Good morning, I do believe so as according to the manual, the Mains Input is- 230V - 50Hz, 100Watts Fuse: 230V - T1AE250V. When carrying ant electronic devices abroad it is always good to bring the proper power converter as a precaution. Regards, |
Question: | I get nominal hiss while in classic gain with all knobs at 12:00 and noticeably more in ultra gain mode. this is on low power mode. normal |
Answer: | I purchased 4 of these hoping to get one without the hiss. Returned them all. Our dsl40cr is perfectly quiet, so I assumed this would be also. Finally gave up, and ordered a dsl5cr. It's perfectly quiet also. |

User questions & answers
Question: | In comparison to the dsl40c. How does this look in comparison? Is it 2 wide? Or do they look like they go together |
Answer: | It is wider, but the amp will still sit on top of it. I set my DSL 40CR on a stand next to it as well (depending on where I'm using it). |
Question: | Can it be used with a JCM900 50 watt combo |
Answer: | Yes, I use this cabinet with my JCM 900 50 watt head, sounds great. Just make sure you select 8ohms on the amp |
Question: | Will this pair with a dsl 20 head |
Answer: | I imagine it would pair with the DSL 20 head nicely. I use the cabinet as an extension for the DSL 40CR 1x12 combo amplifier and I like the way it sounds. I can run the amp + the cabinet, amp only, or cabinet only (using the combo amp as a head). The amplifier I have has a switch, next to the power switch, that allows it to be run at the full 40 watts or reduced to 20 watts. There's plenty of versatility there, but I think the 20 watt selection put through the cabinet only sounds great (if it's not my favorite set up, it my 2nd favorite!) - clean or distorted. |
Question: | Can you connect this to a DSL40 amp |
Answer: | Yes, that’s how I’m using mine. Loving the sound I’m getting. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Why is the Black print overlapping the gray wrap on the Power/standby/output switches? is this a photo mistake |
Answer: | The closer I look at that photo and compare it to other images on the net I think that photo has an optical illusion. The faceplate has a mirror finish, the print is on that. The camera is positioned at a very slight angle rather than straight on. I think you’re seeing the reflection of the lower amp housing’s gray wrap in the mirror-finish plate, appearing to be behind the black print. |

Question: | Does "Combo Amp" mean it's suitable for an acoustic guitar as well or am I better off just buying an acoustic amp |
Answer: | No. Combo amp means it is 1 box with both the amp and the speaker, not separate boxes that stack one on the other. That doesn't mean it is or is not suitable for acoustic. |

Question: | is suitable for practice at home with low volume? don like 8" speaker on dsl |
Answer: | This is perfect for home practice! |
Question: | This is a tube amp, right |
Answer: | Yes |
Question: | How many wattage |
Answer: | 5 W, switchable to 0.5 W (according to the manual). |
Question: | Does it have a headphone jack |
Answer: | It has an audio stereo line out emulated to sound like the cabinet. I do not recommend connecting directly to this using headphones, rather into a pre-amp that you can control the gain with. My headphones reproduce so much noise with studio headphones directly connected to that emulated out that it is intolerable to use this way. |

User questions & answers
Question: | can this be used for a microphone |
Answer: | If the microphone has a quarter inch jack it will work. There is only one input jack. |
Question: | I'm looking for something for an bass guitar. I'd be playing with only one other guitar in either a living room or dinning hall setting, will it work |
Answer: | Bass is really not going to sound very nice through this amp, even in a small setting. You'll sound much better through an amp that's designed for bass, like a Peavey MAX 126 or Fender Rumble 15. |
Question: | any chance this is powerful enough to play in the street |
Answer: | Would be adequate for street corner or subway playing. Subway acoustics are fantastic with overdrive. About 30 foot radius of good volume...fades after that. Sound quality is true to that of the Marshall name. |
Question: | Can this be used with acoustic guitars |
Answer: | Yes. The Marshall MS2 Micro Amp has very low noise even at volume setting up to 10. The Overdrive (OD) switch gives a rather clean Marshall-like sound, compared to Marshall heads from the late '70s (a major effort with Marshall amps then was noise reduction/control). In writing this response I tested one of my MS2 micro amps (I use two, for two effects channels then out through the headphone jack for 4 (two left two right) channels to the mixer board), and plugged in my Ovation-Celebrity CC57. I turned the volume of the Celebrity pickup to 10 (the pickup is very weak) and changed the volume on the MS2 from 0 to 10 (first test), and also engaged the OD switch (second test). Without the OD in play the quality of the sound was acceptable, i.e. just a clean acoustic guitar sound. With the OD in play the noise jumps and we get a kind-of Marshall-like sound from the weak pickup. So I can recommend using the Marshall MS2 Micro Amp even with an acoustic (i.e. acoustic-hybrid electric) guitar as a practice amp and as part of an effects system (pre-amp stage). And the MS2 is very inexpensive. Hope that helps. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Footswitch, power chord and cover included |
Answer: | Footswitch, power cord yes. Cover not included |
Question: | does it have a headphone jack |
Answer: | Nope. I guess you could use the D/O with headphones, but it’s a line volume so that wouldn’t be very effective. |
Question: | I mostly use bluesbreaker(bb) & silver jubilee(sj) on my code. this seems to replicate the bb tone. would adding a pedal let me replicate the sj tone |
Answer: | I use a Boss Bd2 Blues Driver and vary the gain to get any sound I personally enjoy, Love this amp, very strong, very basic. Enjoy |
Question: | Do these sound better than Vox amps |
Answer: | As per the previous answer, the Vox will be a brighter, chimey sound. The Origin 20 has the standard Marshall tone but is not quite as heavy as a Plexi. It was designed to work with pedals (it has an effects loop) and does it very well. |

Question: | How is it in terms of hum (60 cycle |
Answer: | Hi Richard, I no longer have the amp, but I do not recall it having a noticeable hum. Some heavier amps do, but I really don't recall this one being like that. Really great little amp, that gave me a sound I loved without needing a distortion/overdrive pedal. Cheers....Todd |
Question: | What does the "U" in the model number designate |
Answer: | I am not sure , but maybe for the US market? You can contact Marshall support and they should be able to clarify that. |
Question: | Since there are no power tubes, do I still have to crank it up loud to get harmonically rich distortion? or good at 2 or |
Answer: | On the high-gain channel, you can crank the gain to get a harmonically rich distortion and keep the volume at low levels. You'll still get the note-fade-to-feedback sound that we all love at 2 or 3 on the Master Volume, but I personally think it sounds best when driven a little more (about 3.5 to 4). You can also get some pretty good natural break-up by driving the regular gain channel (channel one), but it will get pretty loud when driving that channel. |
Question: | Is the voltage used by this amplifier 220V |
Answer: | No. It's 120v. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this amp work for electric violin |
Answer: | Never tried it for electric violin, but I don't see where it won't work. I've used mine with my electric guitar, acoustic-electric guitar, electric ukulele, guitars with soundhole pickups, ukulele with bridge pickup, and several microphones. It's a very versatile amp. I've seen several bands using it. Hope this helps. |
Question: | Does it come with a foot switch? Is that something you use/need? Seems like that would be important |
Answer: | No. you will need to purchase the foot switch separately. I purchased the Boss F5-6 double foot switch and a stereo 1/4" cable. From here you can turn on and off the reverb and/or chorus. |
Question: | is the grille wear resistant |
Answer: | It is a fabric grill standard on all Marshall amps. Thanks |
Question: | Can you use head phones on this amp for silent practice using the out jack on the back |
Answer: | No |

User questions & answers
Question: | Would it be possible to connect this to a bigger amp |
Answer: | Yes, just run a cable from the headphone jack of this amp to the input of any other amp. Just make sure the volume on your larger amp is low at first, as this mini amps headphone jack puts out more power than a guitar, making your larger amp louder than expected at low volumes. |
Question: | Can you use this for a keyboard |
Answer: | I'm sure you probably can. It does have distortion control but that can be adjusted. |
Question: | would this work decently with a 4 string bass in standard tuning |
Answer: | I would guess no. It didn't work that well for my 6 string. I just spent a little more and bought a practice amp.It might work if you use it with headphones, but as it stands it isn't worth the money. |
Question: | Hi there, how do you know if it is charging or not when you charge it with the Planet Waves 9V Charger |
Answer: | I think it's a power supply not a charger |
