Answer: | I just measured mine with digital vernier calipers. The roller bearings themselves are 2mm thick. The “washers” (AKA races) are 1mm thick each for a total of 4mm. I assume that it’s written as it is because manufacturers sell bearings and races separately, each in multiple thicknesses, and in bulk to suppliers, who then assemble bearing kits based on the customer’s specification by mixing and matching washers and bearings. For example, if you needed a 5mm thick bearing set, they may give you one 1mm and one 2mm washer and a 2mm bearing, or whatever fits the need. It eliminates the need for added spacers. This is as opposed to suppliers buying ore-assembled bearing units from the manufacturer. I further assume that this seller is listing preassembled bearing sets in commonly requested thicknesses. |

Answer: | For my purposes I needed to 3D print the footings that hold the upper and lower plates. The lower footing is slightly deeper to accommodate the bearing cage. I think something similar would be the minimum needed to make it work correctly. The two halves were done in ABS plastic and then i bolted the two components together that needs to swivel. Far more stable than a lazy Susan bearing and much smoother motion. |

For example, a thrust bearing can handle a flat load such that the ball bearings are being sandwiched in between two flat surfaces. This is contrary to an axle bearing where the ball bearings are being forced against an inside race by a load on the outside of the radius of the bearing. |
