Answer:	No, this is not an option with this can. They sell similarly shaped cans with lids, though. The purpose of this can is to always stand open. I use it as my laundry hamper. It is perfect. Holds a standard laundry bag under the lid. I wan another for my kitchen, it is very heavy duty and heavy, won't get knocked over or dinged easily, I can tell you that....

Answer:	I do not know the thickness but it is really strong. I have never tore this trash bag once during my two year use. The dimension I use (equivalent to US 13 gallon can) is 32.7 inches by 25.2 inches. They are made to fit certain Simplehuman trash cans. They are 35c - 40c a piece but it is worth the price because of avoiding all mess.

Answer:	Hello GobbleJog2016,To close the lid properly, separate the lid and trim ring with your hands and manually push the trim down first. You can then lower the lid and you will notice much smoother and quieter operation of your product. When pushing it down, you will hear a slight noise. Question:	Does your model make a big snap sound when you open the area to change the trash liner
Answer:	If it makes the snapping sound and you can return it - do so. You have the old version an the updated version (with identical SKU) has fixed this problem which eventually causes breakage.having to return the whole thing when it breaks is really bad customer service since we know simpleHuman knows this is an issue, as they discontinued the design that gives that ungodly "CRACK" when you lower outer lid after changing bags or locking it open for food prep.

Question:	What are the actual dimensions of the foot print and body
Answer:	The lid will always self close on its own, no matter how hard/long you press on the pedal. You can, however, push the lid open further than the pedal opens it, and it will stay open until you flip it back to the close position. In case anyone else wonders on the mixed answers. I can see Odis was the only other one here who bothered to actually investigate this capability.
Question:	How tall is it with lid open? And how wide
Answer:	The hinge needs about 1/2 inch for clearance to open the lid.
Question:	Does this can require your bags or can we use regular 13 gallon bags
Answer:	We empty this about twice a week for our 22 month old in size 4 diapers. It works really well for holding in the odor too. I'll give it a spray with febreze to help it out, too.
Question:	Does this have a hard plastic inner liner
Answer:	Earlier responses are including the pedal and hinge. I misunderstood that, and thought it was 15" tall. Nope. I measure it (not counting pedal or hinge) as: 6.5" D x 11.7" W x 13.2" H. Dimensions of the interior (the inside of the black bin): 5.8" D x 11" W x 11.6" H. (Or 4.75" D x 9.25" W inside the bottom of the black bin, it's tapered.) Photos show a paper grocery bag inside -- there's no way, unless my paper grocery bags are unusually large.

Question:	Height when lid is open? Need max height
Answer:	When the lid is pushed down to the point that it is fully open, it adds 6” to the height, making the full height 35”. The lid is flat on top and rounded on the bottom (like half of a metal ball) and weighted to swing closed by itself. The metal can has a heavy duty plastic insert. I use a liner in the plastic insert to keep it nice and clean. My husband and I only need one liner per week (we use the stretch kind). Do yourself a favor and buy this can. I’ve had mine 20 years and it’s worth every cent. You’ll never need to buy another can. It’s also an excellent gift. I’ve given several over the years and they’ve always been well received.
Question:	Trash can locked to black part and can’t take off the lid
Answer:	I looked at min e and don't see a locking device between the black liner and the lid. My lid just sits on top and is held down by gravity. Sounds like something is jammed.

Answer:	I don't know the exact dimensions, it is in our rental house and I haven't been there in a while. But I can tell you it is large, close to waist height, maybe 30-32" and it is probably a diameter of about 18" I think. I will try to update this the next time I get down there and actually measure. A typical 13 gallon trash bag is too small for this trash can.
