12 best greek olives
Greek olives are renowned for their exceptional flavor and quality, making them a popular pantry staple and a key ingredient in Mediterranean cuisine. Here's what you should know about Greek olives:
Varieties: Greece produces a wide variety of olives, each with its own distinct taste and texture. Some of the most well-known Greek olive varieties include Kalamata, Amfissa, Halkidiki (Chalkidiki), and Thassos olives. Kalamata olives, in particular, are famous for their rich, fruity flavor and dark purple to black color.
Growing Regions: Greek olives are grown throughout the country, with various regions known for producing specific olive varieties. For example, Kalamata olives are primarily grown in the Peloponnese region, while Halkidiki olives are cultivated in northern Greece.
Harvesting: Greek olives are typically hand-harvested, a labor-intensive process that ensures the olives are carefully selected and handled. The timing of the harvest can influence the flavor profile, with some olives picked at different stages of ripeness.
Processing: Once harvested, olives undergo various processing methods, including curing, brining, or dry curing, depending on the desired final product. Each method imparts unique flavors and textures to the olives.
Taste and Texture: Greek olives are known for their bold and briny flavor profiles. They can range from mildly bitter to intensely fruity, with a range of textures from soft to firm. Kalamata olives, for example, are prized for their meaty texture and robust flavor.
Culinary Uses: Greek olives are versatile ingredients used in numerous Mediterranean dishes. They can be enjoyed on their own as a snack, added to salads, pasta dishes, pizzas, and mezes (appetizers). Olive oil, another Greek culinary staple, is often extracted from these olives.
Preservation: Greek olives are typically preserved in brine or olive oil to extend their shelf life. Proper storage is essential to maintain their quality, and they are often kept in a cool, dark place in a well-sealed container.
Health Benefits: Olives, including Greek olives, are rich in healthy monounsaturated fats and antioxidants. They are also a source of essential nutrients like vitamin E and iron. The Mediterranean diet, which includes olives, is associated with various health benefits.
Export: Greek olives are exported worldwide and are highly sought after for their authentic Mediterranean flavor. They contribute significantly to Greece's agricultural exports.
In summary, Greek olives are cherished for their exceptional flavor, versatility in cooking, and contribution to Mediterranean cuisine. They come in various varieties and are enjoyed both locally and globally as a delicious and nutritious addition to meals and snacks.

User questions & answers
Question: | What type of plastic is the container (the resin code number |
Answer: | The simple answer is yes. Roland Cookie Butter has no animal or animal by-products listed in its ingredients. However, it does contain lactic acid which is vegan, as it primarily occurs during the natural fermentation process of plants or is man-made using plants. Lactic acid is also found in fermented dairy and meats, but there is no way to tell where Roland's lactic acid was sourced. I have found lactic acid present in many vegan foods so I doubt if it should be of concern. I mentioned it because some people might mistakenly associate it with Lactose found in dairy products. |
Question: | How long do the olives keep in the fridge |
Answer: | No it doesn't. Amazon listed the ingredients. Just look there. |
Question: | After I break the seal, do I have to refrigerate the olives (takes up a lot of fridge space |
Answer: | It IS gluten and dairy free |
Question: | I am not a young person so my question may be obvious to some of you but I can't get into the container, help please |
Answer: | A description of this product-- I'd guess mayonaise with pickle relish in it. It used to be carried in all grocery stores. I use it to make egg salad and tuna salad. I was very happy to find it on line when the stores discontinued carrying it. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the expiration date on olives |
Answer: | Don't know about subway sandwiches but the spread is tangy and goes with well italian dressing that we put on our subs we make at home. It's delicious. I also put it in meatballs . HTH |
Question: | Is it normal to have many mushy olives in this order |
Answer: | There are orders for different quantities. I ordered the 6 pack because we LOVE this spread. It’s fantastic in tuna salad too. And of course, on any sandwich. Great stuff! |
Question: | Why are these olives so salty |
Answer: | https://wicklespickles.com/product/spicy-red-sandwich-spread/ |
Question: | Does the bucket of olives have to be refrigerated once opened |
Answer: | I'm a fan of all the Wickle products. The Spicy Red Spread is great on eggs but never tried it on deviled eggs. My only concern would be the amount used could make the yolks to loose or runny but still tasty! |

User questions & answers
Question: | packed in any vinegar? thanks |
Answer: | They are pretty salty (which I like) but usually if olives are too salty I believe you can soak them in water for a bit and they won't be so salty. I have not done that with these though. |
Question: | These had a yellow/green film on the top that I have not seen with other olives when I took them out of the fridge. Is this just from the olive oil |
Answer: | Just pull it out - straight out - it's to keep the olives from getting damaged in transit. |
Question: | I need to know if these have vinegar in them |
Answer: | Easily a month maybe two. They usually get consumed before that long. |
Question: | Ingredient list, please. Could we see a photo of the ingredient list and nutritional information side of the jar, please |
Answer: | No |
Product description
The first part of the Duo is the Kalamata, named for the city and region on the Peloponnese peninsula from which it comes. Often described simply as “Greek olives,” kalamatas have deep, dark-purple color and an oblong shape. They are sweet, rich, and plump, and here, they are marinated in salt, red wine vinegar, and sunflower oil with sliced green and red peppers. Its dynamic partner is the Chalkidiki, an olive that originates on a peninsula that bears the same name and is located farther north, next to Macedonia. Chalkidki olives are robust and green, and ours are brined simply in salt and citric and ascorbic acids. Olives contain pits
- Each pack is 8.80 oz so you get 17.6 oz total
- Vacuum sealed for freshness
- Features two types of olives marinated with lemon and herbs
- Must refrigerate after opening
- Olives contain pits
User questions & answers
Question: | What are the ingredients |
Answer: | “Organic Spices” is a way to describe mystery. No body knows what that means... but you should buy this mayo anyway because it’s absolutely the best one I’ve ever had... |
Question: | How long will the bag of olives be good before opening |
Answer: | I bought a pack of 3 and already finished 2, but the one I have right now has this for an exp date - FEB0620GAJ, and I'm assuming that means it's good until Feb 2020? It looks, feels, and tastes fresh just like the other 2 jars I already used up. I bought them this past spring (2019). If you ever have a problem with expired products I'd take a photo of the exp date and contact the seller. Usually they are more than happy to fix the situation. If the seller doesn't help or ignores you, then contact amazon about it. I hope it all works out. |
Question: | are these salt free |
Answer: | Hi there! Because our products are free of preservatives, they are at risk of separation if exposed to freezing temperatures in transit. Separated products are entirely safe to eat, however, they cannot be returned to their intended state. Please contact us via through our brand website and we'll help to solve this problem! |
Question: | they are cheaper at Trader Joes by almost $5 why so much here |
Answer: | The sell-by date appears on the jar, in dark lettering, beneath Nutrition Facts and 'Please refrigerate after opening', located on the right side of the label. My current jar of Classic Mayo, purchased in January 2021, expires in August, 2021. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Are these all black olives or a mix of black and green olives |
Answer: | Thank you for your interest in Mario Organic olives. The observation you made is consistent with a slight film of olive oil from the “touch of olive oil” which may be more visible or enhanced due to refrigeration. If you have any further concerns or questions, please feel free to contact our Mario Camacho Foods Technical Director, Perry Bratton at 502.416.0009 or [email protected]. Again, thank you for your interest and your patronage. |
Question: | Are these packed in oil or brine |
Answer: | The one with just kalamata+herbs (not mixed) and the green ones without pimento have regular organic vinegar (kalamata w/oregano) and red wine vinegar (green); the others do not have vinegar but a bit of citric acid to keep the pH stable (which most products of the sort will have). |
Question: | Is this mix pitted |
Answer: | Ingredient label for all four kinds (quite easy to tell which is what-the green w/pimento has red bell pepper listed; the mixed has two olive types, and the other single olive type jars are the remaining kalamata and green ones): https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/71V3VaARkXL._SL1050_.jpg Nutritional info (a bit blurry from the glossy paper, but it is legible): https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/71jUBnrC7fL._SX355_.jpg |
