User questions & answers
Question: | product of what country |
Answer: | I sprouted them in both way: in water and in soil. In water I rinsed sprouts at least twice a day. Also I never sprout other kind of bean side by side. |
Question: | What Are The Benefits Of Using This Product |
Answer: | As far as I know, "varietal" means a strain of a vegetable that has been developed for specific characteristics. In the case of tomatoes, it might be high cellulose content for ease of transport and long shelf life, which explains why most grocery store tomatoes are hard and mostly tasteless. In the case of these peas, I take "varietal" to mean that they are just ordinary peas, fine for sprouting but probably not very good for cooking and eating - as opposed to frozen peas or split peas for split pea soup. |
Question: | Is this being sold by Goya ? Reliable? Authentic |
Answer: | These are sprouting seeds therefore they cannot be heat treated. |
Question: | Does this include flavor packets |
Answer: | There is no such thing as non-gmo certified seeds. You actually can not buy GMO seeds without contacting a dealer as GMO seeds are patent protected. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the country of origin? Where are these lentils grown |
Answer: | Wow - you should have had pea soup by then! I'm not sure why that happened, but after 3 or 4 hours if they're still hard, they should definitely see a doctor Lol... Maybe you received an older package where the peas were over dry...next time you can try soaking them in your fridge for a few days, then try to cook...but don't cook for so long and see how they are...maybe 45 minutes... |
Question: | Where is the country of origin for the yellow split peas |
Answer: | Do not know they are dried. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Are they processed on equipment that processes wheat, barely or rye |
Answer: | 7 cups. The peas weigh 1/2 lb per cup. |
Question: | can you cook these in the microwave |
Answer: | Yes, we hope to have this item back in stock soon. We are rushing to get the burlap bag, please see our 4 lb kraft bag if you need your green split peas before we can get the burlap bag. |
Question: | Can you snack on these as is, or are they only for cooking |
Answer: | Splits are a great slow cooker/crockpot ingredient. How fresh your peas are (did you just get them, or have they been hanging around a while) will determine how long they need to cook. Super fresh peas can be done, in a slow cooker on low, in a couple-three hours at the most. Older peas will take a bit longer to cook. No soaking is necessary, although I bet it would speed the cooking time. I hope that helps. |
Question: | are the peas salted |
Answer: | I emailed the company but their answer was vague. They did not advise what chemicals they sprayed on the crop and I specifically asked if they used glyphosate but got no answer. Many people spray glyphosate as a desiccant to dry the plants before harvesting. I would like the company to state what chemicals are sprayed on the crop. |

User questions & answers
Question: | There is a recall from fda |
Answer: | Use a very sharp knife and learn how to use it. Onions make you cry because the aromatic oils are released when the onion structure is crushed. Very little crushing occurs if you use a very sharp knife;Run some water and cut the onions next to the sink. You won't cry;Use some type of acidic solution..Put vinegar on the chopping board. The acid denatures the enzyme. Soak the onion in salt water. The ionic solution denatures the enzyme. But do know that this can change the flavor |
Question: | Are These Recyclable |
Answer: | Did you ask if ANY onions sold on Amazon were recalled??? |
Question: | how do I make my eyes not water by cutting an onion |
Answer: | They are mushy like green peas. They have smoking taste after the cook. |
Question: | Where these onions sold through Amazon Fresh part of the recall on |
Answer: | These are very good in Stews and mixed in your rice. They are a bit hard but soft. Try them with rice and mix them. I like to mix them with my meat sauce and rice so as to get more flavor. They will not get mushy even in your stew. They do have a LOT of cal.'s so use them sparingly. Also try the GOYA Black Beans. I think you might like them as well. |
