Question: How do I get them sharpened. Can I get my small scissors sharpened Also
Answer: I have always gone to a Kitchen or Food supply warehouse. It cost 5 to 10 dollars. You must do some serious Fabric cutting. I have had this brand (in 7") for nearly 40yrs and never had to get them sharpened. I know if you use it to cut paper, it really messes up the blades. But yeah, either a Kitchen or Fabric store can offer Knife/Blade Sharpening. Hope this helps. Happy cutting!!

User questions & answers

Question: Do these scissors have a nonstick coating by chance
Answer: One has a blade guard. It has a hard plastic case that fits over your blades and protects the point and blades. Believe it or not, shear blades can break if dropped on a hard surface, particularly the points. If you don't want the case, buy the cheaper one.
Question: Are the handles big enough to fit all your fingers? The small size only fits 2 of mine which makes them harder to use
Answer: The left handed shears are only for left hand....but the spring loaded shears are apparently for both but very uncomfortable to use with your left hand. And they refuse to make a left handed version
Question: Is the 6 inch size the best for applique work
Answer: I believe the main difference one of the shears is Imported and the other made in the USA. I believe the ones made in the USA are of a better quality.
Question: Where are they made
Answer: The lifetime warranty states, "Gingher products are guaranteed against defects in material and workmanship. This guaranty is void in the event of accidental abuse, misuse, or damage resulting from unauthorized or incorrect repair"

User questions & answers

Question: inch or 8.5 inch
Answer: I don't have the packaging any more. The only marking on the scissors is the brand name "Fiskars" so I don't know where they were manufactured.
Question: Is this product made in Finland: I want one made in Finland NOT IN China
Answer: I didn't buy these scissors. I bought Fiskars 94517797 Right Hand. My scissors are well contoured for my right hand. The scissors you are specifying are left handed scissors and look to be contoured for the left hand. Then those should work equally well for a left handed person.
Question: Is there replacement blades available
Answer: I am left handed and these scissors definitely did not work for me. The blades are wrong and you can not see what you are cutting. Some reviewers on this site say that they are left handed but I even contacted Fiskars, sent them back, because they said they would send me true left handed scissors and instead the customer service guy sent the ones I sent back to me and apologized saying they have continued to get complaints about them. It seems the handles fit your left hand but the blades are wrong, still machined for a right handed person.
Question: I just bought a pair of these shears and used them on a rag quilt. The spring keeps sticking. Is there something that can be done about this
Answer: No. But they are the best shears I've ever bought. Balanced and sharp.

User questions & answers

Question: I noticed the tips make good contact but there is a large gap between the two cutting edges on the rest of the blades. Is this normal for this item
Answer: The gap between mine is approx. .004" down the main part of the blade, but I don't have any feeler gages at home to actually check it. A typical human HEAD hair is usually .0035" to .004" if that's any reference to the size of the gap in yours. I have never had any problem with these though they work awesome and hold up really well. If anything they left the gap there to make sure the precision tip DID make contact. Extremely clean cut no tearing even using a 10x loupe.
Question: are these good for rag quilt snipping? my hand is killing me from using scissors
Answer: I just completed my first rag quilt. I ordered these scissors specifically for that purpose. I returned them. They would not cut through the multiple layers. Fortunately I also have a new pair of Fiskars titanium 10" scissors that have spring action blades. Those worked fine.
Question: Would these be good for use on cutting intricate stencils
Answer: These would be excellent for cutting intricate stencils. They are light weight, super sharp which allows for accurate cutting. I LOVE THEM! I have been sewing and doing hand crafts for over 40 years and these are the best scissors for detail work I have ever found.
Question: My Quality Control dept. does a lot of fabric "snipping", can these be sharpened once they start to dull
Answer: I have sharpened mine, and those of the women who work in the quilt shop, by cutting aluminum foil or fine sandpaper. They do cut a lot of fabric before they need to be sharpened however. :-)

User questions & answers

Question: Are these only for cotton woven fabric or will tbey work well on fleece, knit fabrics, pul, lace, satin etc? i use a wide range of fabrics
Answer: The updated version has thicker acrylic cutting plates to accommodate wafer thin dies. No adapter nor thick shimming is needed.
Question: Has anyone just used these for general use around the house and, if so, how do they perform for everything other than fabrics
Answer: I don’t see any difference - except the price! I have the white/grey option and it came with the cutting plates, embossing plate and dies and embossing folders. I am very happy with it. I have a regular size big shot but so many of my dies are small and I can use this right at my crafting table.
Question: After cutting a few pieces of fabric the blades seem to get sticky (not sticky to the touch), but they don't open and close smoothly. Why
Answer: I already have the full size Big Shot. Just bought this for smaller dies and does not take up as much room on my work space.
Question: How long are the actual blades, excluding the handles
Answer: overall...total length of scissors

User questions & answers

Question: Just got these. Instead of cutting through 4 cotton and 2 flannel layers, it just bends the fabric. Is 6 layers too much for these snips
Answer: I would use the 6" size for applique work and light cutting. I have 2 of each size of Karen Kay Buckley scissors,4", 6", and 7". I don't ever want to be without a pair. They are the best I have ever used.
Question: where are these rag quilting made? I know the company is located here in USA but sometimes companies out source
Answer: I’m sorry. I really don’t know. The scissors themselves are not marked with any “made in ____” & I no longer have the package. They do have Karen Kay Buckley’s signature stamped on one of the blades. And. I absolutely love them.
Question: Are these the exact same as: heritage 744 spring action ergo snip
Answer: Yes, as long as it is small/narrow enough to fit thru the opening. Thinlits or framelits work fine. You could not fit a platform ( thick ) die....I do not think.

User questions & answers

Question: Will these scissors cut very thin material close to the tip
Answer: I can give you and address that's on the package. There is nothing on the package that says "Made in USA" . But here's the address: Klein Cutlery, 7971 Refinery Road, Bolivar, NY. 14715. The web address is: www.kleincutlery.com. On the package it says "An American Tradition in Fine Quality Scissors". Virginia Becker
Question: Is there a product number for these
Answer: I don’t know as there is no model number on the package. I bought the same scissor in 2005 and love them for making rag quilts. I would not use anything else. I bought another pair to loan out to friends.
Question: Does Olfa make a larger smooth sissors for cutting patterns
Answer: My experience with these scissors regarding misc. fabrics has been limited to cottons and knits. The blades are a fine serration, making for accurate and clean cuts. It is my opinion that they will work well with satins, lace, and other fine fabrics, but I hesitate trying to cut fleece or pile fabrics as I fear the serrations will become loaded with lint. I hope that is useful info for you.
Question: Can these be taken apart to be professionally sharped? All good scissors have the ability to be taken apart for pro. sharpening and then be put back
Answer: Hi Nag-in, These scissors are specifically made for projects in the sewing room to cut fabric and thread as they have a serrated blade.Thank you, Robbe

Changing the Way Quilters Cut

At AccuQuilt, we pride ourselves on offering quilters, fabric crafters and retailers a premiere product line of fabric cutters, dies and quilting patterns. We are proud that our fabric cutting systems provide accurate and unique fabric shapes each and every time, and save time and strain for quilters of any age so they can get back to enjoy the creative process of quilting.

Our facility is located in Omaha, Nebraska, and our building features a quilt gallery that houses exhibits that change throughout the year. The gallery is open to the public and we encourage visitors to drop in for a tour.
