17 best mres
MREs, or Meals Ready to Eat, are self-contained, individual ration packs designed for use by the military and other emergency response organizations. These portable meals are commonly associated with the Grocery, Gourmet Food category due to their availability in the market. Here are some key points about MREs:
Purpose: MREs are specifically developed to provide a complete and nutritious meal for individuals in situations where traditional cooking facilities may be unavailable or impractical. They are widely used by the military, as well as for outdoor activities such as camping and hiking.
Components: Each MRE typically includes a main entree, side dishes, snacks, desserts, and a variety of beverage options. They also come with necessary utensils like a spoon, napkin, and sometimes a heating element for hot meals.
Long Shelf Life: MREs are designed to have a long shelf life, often lasting for several years when stored at the appropriate temperature. This makes them a reliable option for emergency preparedness and long-term storage.
Variety: MREs come in a wide range of menu options to cater to different dietary preferences and nutritional needs. Some versions are even specialized for specific dietary requirements, such as vegetarian or kosher options.
Convenience: MREs are known for their convenience. They do not require refrigeration or cooking, as they are pre-cooked and can be eaten cold or heated using the included heating element.
Nutritional Value: MREs are designed to provide a balanced and nutritious meal. They typically contain a mix of protein, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, and minerals to sustain individuals in physically demanding or emergency situations.
Packaging: MREs are packaged in durable and sealed pouches to protect the contents from environmental factors like moisture and light. This packaging also helps in preserving the food's shelf life.
Emergency Preparedness: MREs are often recommended for emergency preparedness kits, as they offer a convenient and reliable food source during natural disasters, power outages, or other emergency situations.
Availability: While initially developed for military use, MREs are also available to civilians and can be purchased from various sources, including military surplus stores and online retailers specializing in emergency food supplies.
It's important to note that the specific menu items and packaging of MREs can vary between manufacturers and over time, so it's a good idea to check the details and expiration dates when purchasing them for personal use or emergency preparedness.

Answer: | It is 5-10 depending on the temperature you store them in. At 65 degrees storage with no light people have reported meals lasting 15yrs. Personally I would replace them every 2-3 yrs after the inspection date to make sure extra fresh but again they will last way longer. |
Question: | A couple of the mre heating bags were torn upon opening, is there any way i can get replacements |
Answer: | Might check with the shipper re: their policy on damaged merchandise |
Question: | Do these come with FRH's |
Answer: | The ones I have for sale do. I can not speak for the rest of them. |
Question: | How is inspection date |
Answer: | Inspection date is 3 yrs after manufacture. This is how MREs are dated. |

Genuine Military Surplus MRE (Meals, Ready to Eat).
12 Meals x 2 Cases = 24 Meals
Pack date: 2017
Inspection date: 2020 - This is NOT the expiration date. Meals are good for at least 7 years if stored at 70 F or below. In a cool and dry environment
User questions & answers
Question: | After opening the sealed cases are you able to find a packaging date stamped on the individual meal bags |
Answer: | Yes. Each date code is stamped on each package inside and on the main pouch. The first number is the year within the decade and the last three are the day of the year . I received fresh as 2017 stamps on mine. |
Question: | Hi. What is the difference between case A and case B |
Answer: | They are different meals. see page 8 and on. A is 1-12 B is 12-18 http://www.dla.mil/Portals/104/Documents/TroopSupport/Subsistence/Rations/acrs/mre/m037.pdf |
Question: | Should the pack date start with a 7 if the inspection date is in |
Answer: | Yes that is correct. we are looking at the pictures and they seem to be 2016 pack date and 2020 inspection, which is odd. This is not our listing and we have no control over the pictures on the listing. Our MREs will have a 2017 pack date that will reflect on the case with a Julian date starting with a "7" |
Question: | Why are these now almost 400 dollars when a few months ago they were only |
Answer: | Since everyone is adding their 2 cents in the answers I guess I will join in. Firstly to the guy who said these are an example of socialism and that they were made using taxpayer dollars you don't seem to understand how military surpluses work. The government didn't make these using taxpayer dollars. A private company makes tons of these and sells them to various buyers including private citizens, emergency response agencies, charities that feed people across the world and yes the US military. That isn't socialism that is capitalism. And yes MREs and LOTS of other products increase in price when COVID hit. You can blame the seller or you can blame the ding dongs hoarding and buying stuff at double the price. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this dairy-free |
Answer: | 30 years from the manufacture date |
Question: | This may be a dumb question, but can I share these with my dog in case of emergency |
Answer: | No it has a rich Zesty tomato paste and I think it’s AWESOME!!! Top Favorite! |
Question: | Why do you charge people at a higher rate when they purchase a larger quantity |
Answer: | If it is dented, but not punctured, *I* would still eat it, but I would eat it soon rather than storing it for 20 years first. If properly stored, it is good for a long time. Denting the can probably doesn't count a "properly storage". Your mileage may vary, and I am not responsible if you get sick. Of course, if it comes out smelling or tasting weird, I would stop eating it. |
Question: | Where is this made |
Answer: | Supply and demand,.....Reference: Events of 2020..... |

User questions & answers
Question: | When is inspection date and how long time left they are not useless |
Answer: | 3/2017 or newer. If kept in cool dark storage they will last for years. Mreinfo.com has good info on this |
Question: | do they come with heaters |
Answer: | Yes.The military mre's do come with heaters.if you get some, type in "fun with mre heaters" and see what comes up on google. |
Question: | Delivery only came with 4 varieties, not the 12 menus advertised. Was this a mistake |
Answer: | It means you should return the product for a refund and you should not eat that. It is repackaged and being sold as new. You have no idea how that product has been treated. All military issue cases of MREs have 12 individual packages each corresponding to one of the 12 meal options for that case, type A or type B. The two types provide a total of 24 possible menus, and if you get one of each case you will have all 24 options, as in every time. MREs have a very long shelf life when properly stored. In fact when frozen they are considered to have an indefinite shelf life. But when improperly stored that shelf life drops dramatically. As in, is I were you I would not risk it. But that is my army service talking. If you don't for some reason believe me, find a veteran you trust, ask if they have ever handed out MREs (like 99% chance they have) and ask if there was ever a repeat in a box. They will confirm that doesn't happen with real MREs. |
Question: | what is the difference between menu A and menu B |
Answer: | Menus refers to the recipes that come in the box. There are 24 recipes broken down into menus of 12 each per box. Searching "MRE Menus" can provide a list of the 2013 menus currently in use (and what recipes these boxes provide). Menus 1-12 are Box A and menus 13-24 are Box B.TLDR: http://www.mreinfo.com/us/mre/mre-menus.html |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will I be getting the whole assortment as stated on the ads? I just want to make sure because I read a review saying that he got mostly has browns |
Answer: | I know from my own ordering experiences, I've not been disappointed or had to question the contents of the order. The order I received contained the contents as advertised on the MRE website. To ensure an equitable variety of products I'd look for an ad that detailed exactly what you'd be getting and how many of each. If it just says "variety," then you might be taking your chances. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the packaged date on these mre's? not inspection but packaged date |
Answer: | I can not answer that question, sorry. What I ordered were 2 sets of MRE Box 1-12 and 13-24 What I got was a random packed product with several repeated meals and short 1 meal. The seller had me return the order to resolve with a proper shipment. They choose to refund my order because they could not fill the order as advertised. What I was told is the meals come in all mixed up and they put 12 in a box and send them out. Sounds like pot luck and there may be many differences, in the set sent to me there were 2 different releases of the same meal with different packaging. I was told they would send me the correct order when I returned the bad one. They did not contact me to speak about the refund, they just refunded my money without consulting me. I did not find them to be easy to work with and I would not recommend them. |
Question: | What facts justify a guaranteed inspection date of 10/2020 if the date is in future |
Answer: | Normally no but if requested we add batteries |
Question: | Do they all come with a heater and candy |
Answer: | They use CR123A/DL123A lithium batteries (3 volts). You can find these at any Radio Shack. |
Question: | If the military inspects Mres three years after pack date. Do consumer inspect theirs |
Answer: | No, the camera doesn't have anything like that. This was actually my first SLR camera back when digital cameras were taking off. It's a good camera but it doesn't have any of those things. You will have to wait till' you develop the film and scan them into your computer. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Are the heaters the new xmre heater or the standard military heaters |
Answer: | The heaters in these are awesome and better than what the military issues. My buddy is a Ranger and he loved these MRE's when I broke some out on a fishing trip. He said the heaters in these work WAY better than the ones issued. And within a few minutes our MRE's were hot and ready to go. |
Question: | The box says the date code should be 4 digits, mine appears to be 5., can somebody help? The code is |
Answer: | Yes , the manufacturer has shifted to a 5 digit code with 20 being the year and 078 being the sequential date for the year. We have discussed this with them and and they will be changing the box information when they run out of the current supply they had in inventory. We are selling brand new production. We this helps. |
Question: | These were 75% less 30 days ago. Why the increasing price point |
Answer: | This is price gouging under the guise of supply and demand. I ordered a case at $200 and by the time it was delivered a few days later, some of the lockdown vibes were better and the price MyStErIoUsLy dropped to a normal price of $175. |
Question: | What's the manufcatured date |
Answer: | The package I received in December 2019 had a pack date of December 2018 (8355). I expected "Brand New- Freshest pack dates Available" to mean they wouldn't be a year old already. |
