User questions & answers

Question: Can you use the charger on the Energizer Power Plus NiMH AA Rechargeable Batteries rated at 2300 mAh
Answer: You could if it actually worked. This charger stopped working within a month. I returned mine. Also you might want to consider more battery slots. 4 seems ok at first but now I got 1 with 8 slots and I think it's too small.
Question: Does this charger only charge in pairs? Is it possible to charge 1 cell (at a time) with this charger
Answer: I have owned this. The universal charger WILL charge batteries individually. There are 4 charging 'points' and you can choose to put one small battery (AA or AAA) in one point. Of course, you can also put two small batteries in each point to get the full 8-at-a-time figure. This also only applies to the small batteries. Cs and Ds are charged individually in each point, so their max is only 4 at a time total.
Question: Can this charge aa and aaa at the same time
Answer: Yes. AAA on one side and AA on the other. Not on the same side at the same time.
Question: Can i use Energizer CHRPROWB4 Pro Charger with 240 volts 50 Hz AC input
Answer: Hi Nikhil Singh, over at the Energizer web site they have some additional information. Look under batteries and then battery chargers. You can download the user manual for this model. The user manual clearly indicates that 240V 50Hz power is OK. The only problem you will have is the plug. The two-prong plug is designed for U.S. outlets. Of course, any plug adapter will solve that problem.Basically, the answer is yes.

User questions & answers

Question: My 4 batteries were losing charge so I put them in the charger. The lights are green. Do they have to be completely dead for them to recharge
Answer: If your batteries are a few years old (or have been over-charged routinely), they may have developed high internal resistance. When used in a photoflash unit, for example, they will give very slow refresh time since the terminal voltage is lower under load. But when you put them in a charger, the terminal voltage becomes higher due to charging current. So the EBL charger (which is not very smart) considers those batteries as fully charged, even through they are not.You should get some better quality rechargeable batteries (such as Panasonic eneloop) to use in your photoflash unit.
Question: Can you charge different mAh batteries at a time? Lets say I have four 2000mAH and four 2300mAH batteries, do I have to charge these separately
Answer: I would think they can be charged together. The mAh value simply is an indication of the length of time the battery will operate. It has nothing to do with out put current or voltage. The 2300 may take a bit longer to charge than the 2000, but I cannot say for sure that would be the case. I would put the 2000's together and the 2300's together. Don't put one size next to the other size.
Question: How long does it take to fully charge batteries
Answer: Charge time is determined by the capacity of the batteries divided by charging current. The charging current of EBL 808A is very low at 200mA. So to recharge a pair of 2800mAh batteries at 200mA will take at least 14 hours.
Question: can it charge uneven amount of batteries (1, 3, 5...)? Can you recommend any charger to charge 3 batteries? AA or AAA
Answer: This charger can only charge in pairs, but we do have some other chargers that can charge uneven amount of batteries, here are the links: 1. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KBQ7U102. http://www.amazon.com/EBL-Battery-Rechargeable-Batteries-Released/dp/B00OT7HSBO3. http://www.amazon.com/EBL%C2%AE-Universal-Discharger-Rechargeable-Batteries/dp/B00IHT2AUE/ref=sr_1_11?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1399165294&sr=1-11&keywordsYou can choose your favorite ,may it help you!

User questions & answers

Question: hey i want to know if the batteries on the charger come fully charge...since i connect them when i received my charger and the red light never change
Answer: The Google preview of this item shows "AmazonBasics AA High-Capacity Rechargeable Batteries (8-Pack) ... Ni-MH Pre-Charged Rechargeable Batteries provide the extra power you need . .... of about 2500 mAh, but two of the batteries are only 54-70% of the rating." but you are correct. When I click the link, that spec is nowhere to be found. I use these for wireless microphones at my church. They work great. The nubs are slightly short so I do have to seat them in really good but they are excellent.
Question: What does the pulsing red light 'bad battery" mean? Just a discharged or truly bad battery that won't accept / hold a charge
Answer: To clarify, there are three different versions of AmazonBasic rechargeable NiMH batteries:- The original AmazonBasics batteries came in black wrappers. They are made in China and have the capacity rating of 2000mAh. They are NOT as good as Sanyo eneloop batteries.ASIN:B0030T1NEA AmazonBasics AA NiMH Pre-Charged Rechargeable Batteries- The second version of AmazonBasics batteries came in white wrappers. They are made in Japan and also have the capacity rating of 2000mAh. They are (according to me) rebranded 2nd-gen Sanyo eneloop, so you can expect at least 1500 cycles lifespan.ASIN:B00CWNMV4G AmazonBasics Pre-Charged Rechargeable Batteries- The third version is also black but called 'high-capacity'. They are (according to me) rebranded Sanyo XX. They are rated 2400mAh, but actual capacity is around 2550mAh, just like Sanyo XX. The rated lifespan of the XX is only 500 cycles.ASIN:B00HZV9TGS AmazonBasics High-Capacity Pre-Charged Rechargeable Batteries
Question: Has anyone else had a problem with these? I had them plugged in for over 12 hours and the light never turned green
Answer: I purchased the white label 1900mAh batteries and black labeled 2000mAh batteries several years ago. Contrary to other's comments, the white batteries are still charging up to full capacity, and the black batteries have all lost significant capacity. White labels say "made in japan" and black labels "made in china". Mfg Date of black batteries is AUG2014, and white batteries have "201409" imprinted. These have all been charged in the same MH-C9000 WizardOne from the beginning.
Question: does it matter which slot tbe batteries are in? my old chsrger had to use the middle slots if only charging 2 for instance
Answer: 1a would be .5 C with these 2000mah cells.. I checked the IR of these cells and with my Turbo Matched 30 from Competition Electronics (these are a 1500 dollar cell matching system that we professional RC on road and off road car and truck guys used to match cells. Very important and HIGH TECH for the time system. Was made for Nicd cells but worked equally well on Nimh cells when they came out) and matched them to get well matched pairs for practice cells for Mod Mini Z cars and boats.. I used Enloop cells for race days and practice with these.. these cells give a solid 2050 to 2100mah handle, will give me long run times and with cells matched with a 6 amp discharge will give me a avg voltage of about 1.02v per cell over 25 minutes, my well massaged Eneloop 2kMah cells i match at 8.5 amps they give me a avg May of 1980 to 2020mah and will hold a avg Voltage of 1.06V per cell at 8.5 amp load over 25 minutes. Point is these cells are a very good value, even in high load usage these cells stand up a lot better then similarly priced Nimhs from other brands.. these cells offer 85% the performance of Eneloop at less then half the cost.. the cells hold up well until about 200 cycles then they deff start to have noticablly lower avg voltage over time at the same discharge curve.. but that's in higher load apps then most people will be using them for.. I charge these cells at .75C or 1.5 amps, at 1.5 amps the cells are slightly warm off the charger and that's how I want them, slightly warm when ready to run as the IR will be lower with a warm cell over a room temp one giving me less voltage sag as the cell warms up under load... These cells will be slightly above ambient temp of charged at .5C or 1 amp, the warmth will start to happen once the cell reaches about 90^% full charge and progressively get warmer until peak charge.. at .75C charge or 1.5 amps you will notice the cells are a fair bit warmer then ambient temp and this has it's use for high load apps like my Mini Z's and some times I'll even charge them at 1C or 2 amps.. that will make for a fairly hot pack BUT will give me the highest voltage under load for the first 25 to 30% of the charge... but will ABSOLUTELY shorten the cells life and I would not recommend doing that UNLESS you know what you are doing to the cell and understand the cells life will be cut by good bit.. meaning if I get 200 really good cycles on a set of cells when charging them at .75C or 1.5 amps, moving to a 1C or 2 amp charge will know it's really good cycles life down to 100 to 125... but you will have less voltage sag/higher voltage under load taking the very warm cells off the charger and straight to using them then if you was to charge them at a lower rate and have cooler cells... Charge at 1 amp and you will be happy with these cells .5C and under will give you the longest cell life for sure..

User questions & answers

Question: Can the charger be used to charge other brands of Ni-MH batteries. A little tired of each brand claiming only their charger will do it properly
Answer: Yes, a Ni-MH battery is a Ni-MH battery. They say that their charger can only charge their batteries because of legal liability reasons, and so you'll but more of their batteries after you buy the charger ;) Most chargers can detect when it's fully charged because the voltage drops a little when it is, as in 5 mv to 10 mv. The percentage of how much power a battery has is from the voltage. e.g. the peak voltage of most high capacity Ni-MH batteries is between 1.45 to 1.55 volts. I know it says it's nominally 1.2 volts but I think that's when it reaches 0% just like a lead acid batteries in vehicles, they're fully charged at 13.2 volts even though they're called 12 volt batteries. I don't understand the world! I mean a smaller number for gauge means it's thicker?! That doesn't make any sense at all! D: I like turtles.
Question: Are there any differences between this charger and the NC-MQN06U not in terms of form factor but in terms of functionality and charging
Answer: The new BQ-CC17 charges each cell independently. The old MQN06 charges in pairs only. Other than that, they have exactly the same charging current (hence charging time).
Question: Should you remove the batteries from the charger once they're charged or can you leave them on
Answer: Ditto the 11/30/2014 comment, no need to leave them on once they are charged; I usually remove them once I see they're charged.
Question: If I use these for photography flashes -- why would I use the pro version instead of the regular ones? I'm confused as to how they are better
Answer: The Eneloop Pro have a higher capacity than the standard ones (roughly 2,450 vs. 1900, about 29% greater); all other things being equal you will get more flashes per battery change. Note that different generations have different performance ratings. In some cases the Pro are rated for fewer charge cycles, however; the Lite versions when available have even less capacity per charge, but more charge cycles.

User questions & answers

Question: is this charger made in the USA
Answer: No, China. I searched for a charger made in USA, but no luck finding one.
Question: I just bought these with your charger and the batteries heat up so much that i cant touch them. Is that normal
Answer: They will get warm, but not to the point where you cannot touch them. Are you using the EBL charger? That thing is a piece of crap. I bought one from Interstate Batteries, and haven't had a problem. The EBL charger kept telling me that the batteries (EBL as well) were not charging due to an error.
Question: Should the batteries be charged prior to first use
Answer: Being in the mobile DJ business, I never trust pre-charged batteries. I always charge them when initially received. All batteries had various levels of charge, yet none were 100% charged.
Question: Are these Low Self Discharge
Answer: In my experience with NiCad batteries, they should be fully discharged, before recharging them. NiCad batteries exhibit a "memory" https://www.google.com/search?q=NiCd+battery+charge+and+discharge+memory&ie=UTF-8

User questions & answers

Question: can you charge other brand batteries in this charger
Answer: I have this charger and it will not charge any brand battery except the Eneloop battery. Do not Buy it for other batteries, it will not work. I bought it based on reviews and that I have about 20 NiMH batteries of various brands. Not one of the 20 would charge on this charger.
Question: Must you charge 4 batteries at a time OR can you charge, say 2 with 2 open slots
Answer: The Panasonic BQ-CC17 can recharge 1, 2, 3 or 4 AA/AAA cells at once. You don't need to charge in pairs like in the case of old MQN06 charger.
Question: i just received the charger and i do not see any indicator lights on mine. anybody
Answer: Just to update this - the chargers shipping now have hidden lights (unlike the product picture). To see them charger must be plugged in with batteries in place. NOTE: To clarify the paper comment - the batteries are shipped in the charger in the charging position. Before first use, remove all four batteries and you will find a small piece of cardboard paper at the top covering the positive charging contacts. This paper is to be discarded. Put the batteries back in position, plug in charger to working circuit and you will then see the now hidden lights under the white plastic "skin" below each battery. This is still true as of 11/2018.
Question: What is the difference between the Panasonic K-KJ17KHCA4A Eneloop Pro vs the Panasonic K-KJ17MCA4BA? Which is a better choice to buy
Answer: The pro cells hold about 25% more capacity under use before you have to charge it. That translates to longer run times for things like hiking GPS and high powered flashlights and wireless microphones in constant use. The trade off is that the pro cells don't retain a charge when stored which is good if you normally plan to drain the battery within a few days of charging it. In a TV or DVD remote control, the pro cells would have to be charged at least once every several months, where the regular cells will last for years without charging in remote controls that are not used daily. So far, I have never had an Eneloop battery ever leak, where I have had several expensive remote controls and headlamp LED's destroyed by leaking modern alkaline batteries. Modern alkaline batteries will often start leaking while still performing and still many years before the best used date has arrived. Modern warrantees for alkaline batteries only cover the battery that fails to perform, not the expensive device that was destroyed by the leaking alkaline battery. I have had several Duracell batteries start leaking while still unused in the original package stored in a cool dry place (basement) and still have a few years before the best used date has arrived. Today's alkaline batteries are junk. The standard Eneloop battery seems to be the most dependable battery I have ever found. They cost more, but the extra cost is worth it. Other brands of NiMH batteries I use often don't hold a charge in storage. The supposed lower voltage compared to alkaline is not the whole truth. Under extreme low power loads, alkaline battery voltage is higher, but under higher loads like cameras and flashlights, the alkaline battery voltage drops lower than NiMH battery within a second of the time the load is applied and then goes back up to resting voltage after the load is turned off. After an alkaline battery looses around 20% of its original charge, it is performing worse than a rechargeable NiMH battery and many devices like cameras can't take that drop in voltage.

User questions & answers

Question: Why when I insert batteries to charge I see on the monitor-"Error
Answer: There can be various reasons for this: Are you using *rechargeable* batteries? Are the batteries inserted fully into the slots? Are the batteries inserted with the correct polarity? ...i.e. wth the top of the battery inserted into the "+" slot. Since I cannot actually SEE what you are doing, this is the best that I can offer. Bottom line: this device took very long (as much as 12 hours to recharge), so I gave it away, as it was too late to return for refund or exchange.
Question: Charger is new and does not appear to charge the batteries.Have put batteries in for hours. There is no read out to indicate charging and no results
Answer: There is a visual on the screen. When you insert the batteries, make sure they have good contact with the charger by wiggling them. Once they begin to charge the screen will show the image of a battery progressively being filled (three segmented bars). When a battery is completely charged, the screen shows the same battery, but full
Question: will this work with panasonic eneloop pro AA and AAA batteries

User questions & answers

Question: Hi can we use eneloppe panasonic rechargeable batteries with the charger
Answer: This Tenergy TN438 Smart Battery Charger will work with other brands of batteries as long as they are rechargeable AA/AAA size and are NiMH/NiCd type.
Question: How long does it take to charge batteries
Answer: this will depend on the capacity of the battery and the state of charge it currently has.
Question: Will it charge any brand of battery
Answer: I have several brands of rechargeable AA and its works for all of them. They will not all recharge by the same time. I try to keep the same type together.
Question: what does charge error mean? It is not addressed in the instructions
Answer: It mean that the charger has analyzed the voltage change between charging and discharging. It is constantly performing tests on the batteries. It has decided that the battery is not holding a charge as well as it expected the battery to do. Unfortunately, this charger is too sensitive and gives up on batteries that still have a lot of useful life left in them. You can't use this to charge batteries that are more than a couple of years old or batteries made by different manufacturers. I don't think there is a way to defeat the error message and still charge the batteries.
