4 best usb expansion hub
A USB expansion hub is a device that allows you to expand the number of USB ports available on your computer or other host device. It is a useful peripheral in various situations where you need to connect multiple USB devices but have limited built-in USB ports. Here's what you need to know about USB expansion hubs:
Purpose: USB expansion hubs are used to overcome the limitation of the number of USB ports on a computer or laptop. They provide additional USB ports for connecting more devices simultaneously.
Types: There are various types of USB expansion hubs, but the most common ones are powered and unpowered hubs. Powered hubs have their own power source, which allows them to provide sufficient power to connected devices, making them suitable for devices that require more power, such as external hard drives. Unpowered hubs draw power from the host device and are typically used for low-power peripherals like keyboards and mice.
Number of Ports: USB expansion hubs come in various configurations, offering a range of USB ports. Common options include 4-port, 7-port, and 10-port hubs, but you can find hubs with even more ports for specialized applications.
USB Standards: USB expansion hubs may support different USB standards, including USB 2.0, USB 3.0, USB 3.1, and USB 3.2. The choice of USB standard affects data transfer speeds, so selecting a hub with a higher USB version can result in faster data transfer between your devices and the host computer.
Data Transfer Speed: USB hubs can affect the data transfer speed between devices, especially if multiple high-speed devices are connected simultaneously. It's important to choose a hub with the appropriate USB version to ensure optimal performance.
Compatibility: USB expansion hubs are typically compatible with various operating systems, including Windows, macOS, and Linux. However, it's always a good practice to check the product specifications to confirm compatibility with your specific devices.
Plug-and-Play: Most USB hubs are designed to be plug-and-play, meaning you can simply connect them to your computer's USB port, and they should work without the need for additional drivers.
External Power: If you plan to connect power-hungry devices like external hard drives, it's advisable to choose a powered USB hub. These hubs have their own power adapter, ensuring stable and sufficient power for all connected devices.
Port Arrangement: The arrangement of USB ports on the hub can vary. Some hubs have all the ports on one side, while others are designed with ports spaced apart or positioned at different angles to accommodate larger connectors.
Compact vs. Desktop: USB expansion hubs come in both compact, portable designs and larger desktop versions. The choice depends on your specific needs and whether you require a hub for on-the-go use or a more stationary setup.
USB expansion hubs are valuable accessories for individuals and businesses that need to connect multiple USB devices to a single computer or laptop. They help declutter your workspace and provide the flexibility to expand your connectivity options easily.

Straight shank expansion reamers mount to the chuck of a drill press or similar machining tool. Use them to enlarge or finish an existing hole to a precise tolerance or size. An adjustment screw on the reamer expands the size of the cutting head so it can be reground to its original size, which extends the life of the reamer by allowing the operator to compensate for wear on the reamer's cutting edge. Expansion reamers have an adjustment screw that expands the size of the cutting head so it can be reground to its original size. This extends the life of the tool by allowing the operator to compensate for wear on the reamer's cutting edge. These chucking reamers (sometimes called machine reamers) are installed in the chuck of a drill press, lathe, or similar machining tool to enlarge or finish an existing hole to a precise tolerance or size. User questions & answers
Question: | I have 2 external hard drives: 1 is 500 GB, 1 is 2 TB. Both have their own power cords. Will they work with this hub |
Answer: | yes they will, I have a 3 tb WD, a 2 tb Fatom, and a 1tb HP they all work fine, and and any thumb drive that I plug in syncs right up.Some of the thumb drives are usb 2.0 , no problem |
Question: | What is the recommended ac adapter to use with this |
Answer: | JTJ said he didn't have a power jack. Either there is more than one version or he has one but didn't find it. It would be easy to miss. It's next to the USB cable. For basic devices, like a mouse, keyboard, etc, you do not need a power supply. The computer will power them, but the current the computer will supply is limited. If you plan to charge a smart phone, tablet, or something like that you should make the adapter part of your plans.(http://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-100V-240V-Adapter-Support-PS-5V4A/dp/B00MRGKPH8 ) |
Question: | If I plug this into a 2.0 USB port on my CPU, will I still get the benefit of Sabrent's 3.0 speed? Or is it about time I update my motherboard? Thanks |
Answer: | @T. Freese: No. The nature of USB is that devices can not communicate among themselves. All communication goes through the host computer. So a pair of 3.0 devices sharing a hub attached to a 2.0 computer will communicate at 2.0 speeds. |
Question: | Does the fact that each has a switch mean that you can just turn each of them off without doing "safely remove" or "eject" devices |
Answer: | The reason that you use the Windows Option to safely remove the drive is so that windows has a chance to close any File Pointer that is in use. If this is not done, then there is a chance that the file(s) will be locked and/or corrupted the next time the drive is accessed.So. It is recommended that you safely remove the drive before you hit that power switch on the hub.I have this hub and use it to access 1 4TB drive, 2 5TB drives and 1 8TB drive. That is a LOT of data to loose just because I got lazy. The one reason to have switches on a hub is so that you can have the drives OFF when not in use. This will save some life on the hard drive.Lance |
