Answer:	Yes (according to my testing). I got one of those $4 cords and it has 2 flaws that this cable doesn't. 1) those cables only charge while the unit is in sleep mode, this cable can charge while you're playing. 2) those cables can cause the 3ds charging light to blink (indicating incorrect voltage) when used with *most* of the wall outlets I tried. This cable has worked perfectly with all my wall outlets and USB batteries.Basically the other cables complement the *stock* 3ds charger, but this cable can actually replace it.

I couldn't care less about the "durability" of this cable, but that is nice too.

FYI, I returned this case because it felt cheaply made, especially the zippers, which came off the same day. I got a "SmaCase" from Smart Tree right here on Amazon and I love it!
