12 best tomato knives
Tomato knives are specialized kitchen knives designed for slicing tomatoes and other soft fruits and vegetables. They are part of the cutlery category and are useful tools in the kitchen. Here's what you should know about tomato knives:
Design: Tomato knives typically have a unique design that sets them apart from other kitchen knives. They are characterized by a serrated or scalloped edge blade. This serration helps to cut through the delicate skin of tomatoes without crushing or tearing the flesh.
Blade Material: Tomato knives are often made with stainless steel blades, which are durable, rust-resistant, and easy to maintain. Some high-end models may use carbon steel for a sharper edge, but these require more care to prevent rust.
Serrated Edge: The serrated edge of a tomato knife allows for clean and precise cuts through the skin and flesh of tomatoes and similar items. This design minimizes the risk of squashing or damaging the fruit or vegetable during slicing.
Versatility: While primarily designed for tomatoes, these knives can also be used for other soft and delicate items such as strawberries, kiwis, and even bread with a soft crust. Their serrated edge makes them versatile tools in the kitchen.
Handle Design: Tomato knives come with various handle designs, including wooden, plastic, or metal handles. The choice of handle material often depends on personal preference and comfort.
Maintenance: Like all kitchen knives, tomato knives require proper maintenance. They should be hand-washed and dried promptly to prevent corrosion. Sharpening may be needed occasionally to maintain their cutting performance.
Kitchen Use: Tomato knives are a valuable addition to any kitchen where tomatoes are frequently used in salads, sandwiches, and other dishes. Their precise slicing capability helps enhance the presentation of food.
Knife Accessories: Tomato knives may be included in knife sets or sold individually. They are considered essential cutlery in many households and professional kitchens.
In summary, tomato knives are specialized kitchen knives with serrated or scalloped edges designed for slicing tomatoes and other soft fruits and vegetables. They are part of the cutlery and knife accessories category and are a valuable tool in the kitchen, offering precise and clean cuts without damaging the delicate items being sliced.

15 of the wackiest, most spectacular experiments from the Television series.Science investigator Beakman's hair may look like it took the business end of a powerful electric shock, but as host of the silly but enlightening The Best of Beakman's World, he proves far too savvy about natural forces to make such a blunder. With the help of penguin smart alecks Don and Herb (voiced by Alan Barzman and Bert Berdis), and ratty-looking rodent Lester (Mark Ritts), Beakman (Paul Zaloom) explains, in brief, sketch-like blackouts, how a lot of Stuff works. Sure, one can contain water in an upside-down glass with a mere playing card; it's called air pressure. Yes, a tennis ball that bounces off a bouncing basketball will shoot 15 feet in the air. No, one can't push a stick through a small pile of table salt sitting in a tissue-covered paper tube. Indeed, the mysteries of a camera obscura can be explored with a cardboard box. Big ideas, simple (and fun) execution.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is there any way to restore the finish on the handle after somebody puts it in the dishwasher |
Answer: | Keeping the handles in pristine condition might be quite a task, dishwasher or not. Over time the aluminum with naturally oxidize just from normal washing and frequent use. If it's very important to you, the knives are so inexpensive that they could be replaced quite reasonably. We've used these knives for years, and while they don't look brand new, they continue to work wonderfully, as intended. |
Question: | Are these packaged separate |
Answer: | If purchased from us, they are in separate plastic bags (from the manufacturer) inside of a chipboard box. Can't say how packaged from any other seller. |
Question: | Will these do well slicing apples |
Answer: | The tomato knife is my go too for almost everything. Slicing apples is an awesome example. I have found that slicing apples on a cutting board is the easy and safest way to cut with this very sharp knife. |
Question: | Since these are offered in a set of 6, is it suggested that they would be suitable as steak knives? I've been looking for a good, sharp edge |
Answer: | I bought them as a set of two and they work great for tomatoes. The knives are VERY sharp. The only issue I could see with them being used as steak knives is the blade itself is very thin, therefore very flexible. I would be concerned that the blade might twist while cutting into steak. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Do the black handled ones survive the dishwasher if someone forgets to hand wash it |
Answer: | Don't know that answer, but I have always been told that hand washing preserves the blade. Hot water in the dishwasher changes the temper of the blades. Since I have always hand washed, my blades are good 10 years later. |
Question: | The description speaks of aluminum or plastic handle but i don't see where i can make a choice when i order. how can i guarantee which i get |
Answer: | The W226 is the plastic handle. R126 is the aluminum handle. Search Amazon for B000H284LS and buy that one if you prefer aluminum |
Question: | How long in the serrated blade portion of this knife |
Answer: | 4.5 inches (the whole knife is 9" and the blade is 5" and the sharp serrated part is 4.5" of that) Just used mine last night for slicing pickles into super thin sandwhich "stackers". |
Question: | is this ok for left handed people |
Answer: | Yes. The Tomato Slicer works just as well for left-handed and right-handed individuals. This knife will cleanly and effortlessly slice through a tomato and other delicate fruits and vegetables. And best of all, no mess! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Do you need a special sharpener for this knife and if so what is a recommended sharpener. Thank you |
Answer: | Because the actual blade does not touch the surface this knife will rarely need sharpening. It take a special machine to sharpen so it is best to send it back to Wusthof and let them sharpen it. |
Question: | Is this the "Dreizack" 11cm tomatenmesser |
Answer: | Dreizack is the red emblem embeded in the handle. 11cm is its metric length. Tomatenmesser is any knife used for cutting tomatoes. |
Question: | Can this knife be honed with the Wusthof steel |
Answer: | Absolutely NOT! You must sharpen serrated knives differently. each of the serrations (gullets) must be sharpened individually. A standard sharpening steel will not reach the serrated areas and may damage both the knife and the sharpening steel if trying to do this. You'll need a special sharpening tool designed especially for this task. Here's one here on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/DMT-FSKF-Diafold-Serrated-Sharpener/dp/B00004WFTZ There are plenty of guides and videos on the net to show you the best method to sharpen. Good luck! |
Question: | Is this knife made in Germany |
Answer: | ALL of my Wusthuf are made in Germany. I have seen cheaper stuff and I refuse to buy it. So this particular knife is, at least the one I have, is made in Germany. |

The Four Cornerstones of Victorinox
Our blades are manufactured from high-quality steel with precisely tuned features that are essential for the particular application. The steel is tempered, annealed and polished to achieve the necessary hardness and provide optimum resistance to corrosion. Every knife embodies our four cornerstones: quality, functionality, innovation and iconic design.
Functionality
Whether you’re taking a stab at cooking for the first time or you are a seasoned pro, culinary success can be found using a simple recipe. It is equal parts following directions, not following directions, and using the right tools for the job. That’s why a well-made knife set makes all the difference. Find the perfect cutlery for whatever task is at hand, and whatever budget you have. Featuring a wide selection of kitchen knives you can choose from individual pieces, starter sets or block sets that include everything you need to make gourmet meals
Innovation is our Tradition
Innovation is our tradition and has been ever since we patented the first Swiss Army Knife in 1897. Here in the Swiss Knife Valley, we take lumps of molten steel and blend with generations of experience to forge knives which are loved all over the world. As we continue to find new ways to improve our knives we also strive to apply better solutions that meet new requirements and our customers inarticulated needs.
Iconic Design
In 1891 Karl Elsener, the owner of Victorinox, was under contract by the Swiss Army to produce a folding pocket knife to be suitable for use by soldiers for opening canned food and disassembling the Swiss service rifle. Elsener invented a special spring mechanism allowing him to attach the tools on both sides of the handle, using the same spring to hold the tools in place. This innovative design meant Elsener could put twice as many features on the knife, which included a blade, a second smaller cutting blade, reamer, can-opener, screwdriver, corkscrew, and wood fiber grips. The Swiss Army Knife is the most recognizable icon of utility and smart design, and the knives are still made exclusively in only two factories in Switzerland.

User questions & answers
Question: | Beside cutting cheese, veggies and fruits, can it also be use to cut meat, chicken, fish |
Answer: | It 'can' be used to cut meat with but because of the type of blade it is, it's not real efficient. You would have to use a sawing motion to do that (I have done it) AND, it will cut through the meat; just not as smooth as a different blade. I've used it for a lot of things other than cutting cheese products; vegetables seem to workwell when using this knife (carrots, celery, etc). Things do not get stuck in the holes (including) meat, it's just not meant to beused for cutting meats. |
Question: | Where is it made |
Answer: | Hi Tatim!Made in the USAYours faithfully NiksonStoreSales |
Question: | Out of 171 reviews 151 are 5 & 4 star so clearly the majority rules. Its only use will be for cheddar type cheese slicing so is this a good choice |
Answer: | Yes it will. I have used for all types of cheeses including cheddar and it works great. I even use on harder meats and it works. Very satisfied with product. |
Question: | Is this knife good for cutting avocados, oranges, grapefruits, lemons & limes |
Answer: | It work as well as any knife for those tasks. It's design however, makes it super for slicing foods like cheese which tend to stick to the blade while cutting. So for me, that is what I use mine for. Great on fresh mozzarella. |

Question: | Can this knife be put in the dishwasher |
Answer: | Most of the damage from using the dish washer will be what happens to the handle. Also, when washing by hand, dry it immediately and put it away...knife blades should never sit in water of any kind. BTW, also NEVER scrape the blade to round up what you cut...use the opposite side so you don't damage/dull the cutting blade before its time. |
Question: | What's the difference between Wusthof's "Classic" style serrated tomato knives #4105/14cm and the #4109/14cm |
Answer: | The #4109 Tomato Knife is fully forged steel with a bolster to protect the handle and to help balance the knife. The #4105 is a gourmet knife that is stamped steel with a handle. |

Our environmental management department works tirelessly to ensure our operation is optimized for energy efficiency, minimization of waste and reduced emissions. We are proud to be recognized as a specialist in producing outstanding knives, but we're also proud to produce them responsibly. The interplay between economy and ecology guarantees a long-term future for our business.
A Centuries Old Tradition
Family owned for seven generations, WÜSTHOF was founded in Solingen, Germany over 200 years ago. Located near the banks of the Wupper River, Solingen has been home to master blacksmiths for over 2,000 years, with the river's many creeks and spillways perfectly suited to provide power for the forging of blades through the 18th and 19th centuries. It was then, in 1814, that the WÜSTHOF tradition began. To this day, every WÜSTHOF knife is expertly crafted in the legendary 'City of Blades'.
