Answer:	Make sure you didn't glue the back piece, which is like a spring that locks an internal trigger like a trigger in a pistol. My kid put too much carpenters glue on the internal pieces and had to unlodge them with an utility knife.

Three miles for a FRS radio is wishful thinking; 1/2 to one mile, unobstructed line-of-sight is more likely. You put trees, buildings, rain, snow, concrete, or metal between you and the other person, and your range drops dramatically.
