14 best reverse osmosis system for hydroponics
Reverse osmosis (RO) systems are commonly used in hydroponics to ensure the water provided to plants is free from impurities and contaminants. Hydroponics is a method of growing plants without soil, where nutrient-rich water is used to deliver essential elements directly to the plant roots. In this context, having high-quality water is crucial for the health and growth of plants.
Here are some key aspects of reverse osmosis systems in the context of hydroponics:
Water Purification:
- RO systems employ a semi-permeable membrane to remove a wide range of contaminants from water. This includes minerals, heavy metals, chemicals, and other impurities that might be present in tap water.
Nutrient Control:
- Hydroponic systems rely on a carefully balanced nutrient solution.Using RO water allows growers to have precise control over the nutrient content, ensuring that plants receive the correct balance of essential elements for optimal growth.
pH Regulation:
- RO systems also help in regulating the pH of the water. Since the nutrient solutions need to be within a specific pH range for plants to absorb nutrients efficiently, RO water provides a neutral starting point, allowing growers to adjust the pH as needed.
Preventing Algae and Microbial Growth:
- RO systems effectively eliminate microorganisms and algae in the water. This is crucial in hydroponics, where the absence of soil means that the water is the primary medium for plant growth. Clean water helps prevent the growth of harmful organisms that could negatively impact plant health.
System Types:
- There are various types of RO systems suitable for hydroponics, including under sink countertop filtration units. These systems are often designed for ease of installation and can be integrated into existing water lines.
Maintenance:
- Regular maintenance is essential to keep RO systems functioning optimally. This may involve changing filters, cleaning membranes, and monitoring system performance.
Water Efficiency:
- While RO systems are highly effective at purifying water, they can be water-intensive. Some advanced RO systems incorporate features like permeate pumps to improve water efficiency.
In summary, reverse osmosis systems play a critical role in hydroponics by providing clean and purified water, allowing for precise control over nutrient levels, pH, and preventing the growth of harmful microorganisms. These systems contribute to the overall success of hydroponic cultivation by creating an environment where plants can thrive.

Product features
Two Membranes are better than One
Unlike other units that use a single less efficient 200 GPD membrane, the Classic Hydroponics RO unit uses two 100 GPD membranes to achieve a rejection rate of 97-98%. This means less total dissolved solids (TDS) in your water.
Two Carbon Chambers
The unit includes two carbon chambers, ensuring the tap water is treated properly before going to the membrane. The first chamber can also accept an optional KDF85 Chloramine cartridge, so if you have Chloramines in your water there is no need for an additional system.
View Sediment Filter Condition
The clear canister that holds the5 micron sediment cartridge makes it easy to view the condition and know when it's time to replace the cartridge. This is especially helpful in areas with high iron or silt content.
Pre-plumbed ASO
The pre-plumbed ASO will shut-off the incoming water supply when you turn off the filtered water line. For example, you are filling a barrel with RO water and turn off the fill valve when the barrel is full. The ASO will then stop the incoming water from flowing through the unit and existing the waste line.
Manual On/Off & Float Valve Included
Use the included float valve to turn off the water when your container or sump is full or control the flow manually with the on/off valve. The float valve requires drilling a 7/8" hole in your container to install. All press fittings use the industry-standard 1/4" tubing size.
Built-In Flush Valve
To prolong the membrane life and save you money, the Classic Hydroponics unit includes a built-in flush valve. Simply open the valve for a minute prior to making RO water and this will help "flush" away build-up on the membrane.
Product description
The HydroGardener Reverse Osmosis System for garden and hydroponics delivers solutions, not problems. Even the most demanding gardeners are impressed with its exceptional water purity and pH balancing cal/mg delivery system. Its innovative design eliminates the most common problems found with traditional RO systems— canister filter housing leaks, slow flow rate, acidic water, and service challenges. The HydroGardener Advanced Remineralizing Reverse Osmosis system for hydroponics and gardening delivers pH Balanced Mineral Water on Tap by first stripping the water clean, removing 98-percent of contaminants including the persistent chemical disinfectant chloramine using catalytic carbon and sediment filtration, the reverse osmosis (RO) process, and then channels the water through the advanced remineralization system to add (15-30 ppm) calcium and magnesium minerals. The HydroGardener creates the best possible water for your plants and garden. HydroGardener systems use larger fittings and tubing than Traditional RO systems to double the water flow rate. Traditional RO systems produce water that is demineralized and slightly acidic. The advanced HydroGardener remineralizes the water, adding a small amount of cal/mag minerals (15-30 mg/l) because it's easier to acid down than cal/mag up. In designing the HydroGardener a sophisticated combination of flow restriction components were integrated into the system architecture to regulate pressure in the high efficiency 150 gpd membrane chamber for optimized purification and minimized wastewater production. The most sophisticated components certified to NSF standards are included in the design and construction of our product. In the Box: Fully assembled purification unit with filters and 150 gpd tfc membrane, 3/8-Inch feed water adapter with shut off, garden hose adapter, drain saddle, instructions. 5 year limited warranty. MADE IN THE USA.

The HydroGardener Pro Advanced Remineralizing Reverse Osmosis system for hydroponics and gardening using a well water supply solves many of the problems associated with traditional RO systems on well water. Traditional RO systems are destroyed by well water that is high in iron and manganese. HydroGardener Pro contains an iron prefilter with KDF85 media to remove iron, manganese and hydrogen sulfide which would otherwise destroy the RO membrane. Traditional RO systems produce water that is demineralized and slightly acidic. The HydroGardener Pro delivers pH Balanced Mineral Water on Tap by first stripping the water clean, removing up to 98-percent of contaminants using the reverse osmosis (RO) process, sediment, catalytic carbon, and KDF85 iron filtration then channels the water through the advanced remineralization system to add (15-30 ppm) calcium and magnesium minerals because it's easier to acid down than cal/mag up. The HydroGardener Pro creates the best possible water for your plants and garden. Traditional RO systems suffer from poor water production and increased water waste in the low water pressure environment accompanying most well water systems. User questions & answers
Question: | Can I use with hydrosense-0500 ro system |
Answer: | Yes you can however I don't recommend hooking the system up that way bc if you or someone accidentally passes hot water through the membrane it will ruin the filter. I hooked the filter to the cold water supply under the sink with a T connection and ran the waste water line into the drain pipe. Very very easy to install and brought my water ppm's from 200-300 ppm to 0-5 ppms |

Product description
The GX150-HF with a single GrowoniX High REJECTION membrane out-performs all other systems in the same class that utilize two membranes. When we developed the GX150-HF, we decided to pack all the high end features into a tight efficient RO unit. We engineered a 50% increase in water production over traditional RO systems, lowered the waste ratio to 2:1, and still offered it to you for the same price point of an entry level RO filter. We topped it all off with a 2ヤ stainless steel liquid-filled pressure gauge, never before seen in a filter this size, and integrated it into our patented GX Series bracketing system. A manual flush valve allows you to clean the membrane, purging out pollutants that could otherwise add buildup to the system. GX200-HF = High Flow membrane for superior water production, a bit more TDS. 200 GPD. GX150 = Ultra High Rejection membrane for the purest of water, a little less flow. 150 GPD. Optional KDF85 Carbon Filter Upgrade: For chlorine and chloramines reduction for city water. Also for well water for iron, hydrogen sulfide, and heavy metals reduction. Will last TWO TIMES AS LONG as the standard green carbon filter. Prolongs the life of the membranes. Reduces chloramines, chlorine, iron, sulfur and heavy metals. Bacteriostatic qualities do not allow microbes to breed in filter. Returns are subject to 15% restocking fee and original shipping costs.

User questions & answers
Question: | do you sell a GXHR 200 ro filter |
Answer: | Yes, the filter pack is compatible with all WECO HydroSense reverse osmosis water filter systems. (HydroSense-0500, HydroSense-0500DI, HydroSense-0500GAC, HydroSense-0500UV, HydroSense-0500GAC-CAL-UV, HydroSense-0400) |
Question: | Dose this come with the upgrade kdf/cat carbon filter |
Answer: | I would agree it will be at least 1000ppm if incoming water is 250ppm. Plants would probably not mind but your soil will get heavy in minerals. It is not that much water in any case. |
