Answer:	Yes, it is thin, so you have to be very careful what you put on the shelves. Load them with books and they will warp!

Answer:	You may be able to cut them with something really sharp. The rubber is very thick and stiff so they can lock together. Good luck. I am very happy with mine. I wish my order would have come with 10 squares instead of nine to make it look nicer and even.
