10 best microscope for kids with slides

Microscopes for kids with slides are educational toys designed to introduce children to the world of microscopy, optics, and scientific exploration. These microscopes are specifically tailored to be user-friendly and engaging for young learners. Here's what you should know about microscopes for kids with slides:

  1. Kid-Friendly Design:

    • Microscopes for children are typically designed with bright colors, easy-to-use knobs, and durable materials to withstand the handling of young hands.
    • They often feature large focusing knobs and simple stage controls to make it easier for kids to adjust and explore.
  2. Magnification:

    • Kids' microscopes typically offer lower magnification levels (e.g., 100x to 600x) compared to professional microscopes. This level of magnification allows children to view a variety of specimens, such as insects, plant cells, and small objects.
  3. Built-in Lighting:

    • Many kids' microscopes have built-in LED lights to illuminate the specimen and enhance visibility. These lights are often battery-powered or USB-powered for convenience.
  4. Slides and Specimens:

    • Microscopes for kids often come with prepared slides that contain interesting samples like tiny organisms, plant cells, or other biological materials.
    • Some kits include blank slides and tools that encourage children to collect and prepare their own specimens for observation.
  5. Educational Value:

    • These microscopes are excellent educational tools that can foster a child's curiosity about science and the natural world.
    • They can help kids develop skills in observation, critical thinking, and scientific inquiry.
  6. Safety:

    • Manufacturers prioritize safety features, such as shatterproof lenses and non-toxic materials, to ensure that children can use the microscopes safely.
  7. Portability:

    • Some kids' microscopes are designed to be portable, allowing children to take them on nature walks or field trips for outdoor exploration.
  8. Learning Resources:

    • Many microscope kits for kids include educational materials like manuals, guides, and activity books to assist children in using the microscope effectively and learning about the specimens they observe.
  9. Parental Involvement:

    • Parents can play a significant role in helping children use the microscope and guide their exploration.
    • Microscopy can be a bonding activity, as parents and children can discover the microscopic world together.
  10. Age Recommendations:

    • These microscopes are typically designed for children aged 6 and older, with varying levels of complexity depending on the child's age and experience.

Microscopes for kids with slides are valuable tools for introducing young minds to the wonders of science and microscopy. They provide an opportunity for children to explore the hidden details of the natural world and develop a deeper appreciation for science and learning.

User questions & answers

Question: What is the microscope made of? Hard plastic or metal
Answer: Hello Leonard,This microscope is not meant for seeing cells. It's magnifications goes up to 50X. To see cells well you would need approximately 400X. This microscope comes with sea monkeys (also known for brine shrimp), and is great for watching them swim around! It is also good to explore and see pixilation in magazines or other pictures, exploring bugs, and the many slides that come with the product!Thank you for your inquiry.
Question: Is this microscope able to observe cells
Answer: The objective lens on this microscope is 2x and the ocular lenses are 10x and 25x. This combination will magnify your specimen either 20x or 50x.
Question: If it has a 20x objective and a 50x objective wouldn't that give you 200x and 500x magnification? Or is the microscope lens itself just a 2x & not 10x
Answer: Hello,The eye pieces are adjustable and should adjust to fit children or adults.Thank you for your inquiry,National Geographic Toys Customer Support
Question: Are the eye pieces adjustable to adapt to different widths of eyes between, e.g., children and adults
Answer: The end that fits into the holes of the hedgehog are 1/2 inch while the other end is between 3/4" and 1". I would say they are similar to the size of a man's fingers since I have an average woman's hand and the thickness of the quills is bigger than my fingers.

User questions & answers

Question: I am looking at this, the Amscope M150-C and my first lab duo-scope for my 11 year old son. any thoughts on which is best? he loves science & is very smart
Answer: I taught grade six science for 36 years and just bought the Amscope for my 10y.o. neice. We haven't tried it yet as it is a Christmas gift but I think it will be a perfect starter microscope.
Question: Is the wheel under the stage the fine adjustment or is it the black knob on the base
Answer: Hello, The blue knob on the side is the fine adjustment, and the black knob around it is the coarse adjustment. The little black knob on the base is light brightness, and the wheel under the stage is for light adjustment. Thank you for your question,
Question: How heavy is it? Can a 6 year old carry it easily
Answer: Maybe a couple pounds. It has a handle on the back, so it seems like a 6-year-old could hold the handle and support the bottom with his or her other hand pretty easily with a little instruction. We’re using it in our homeschool for our 12 & 14-year-olds, and I’m pleased with it so far.
Question: Does this have a standard 23.2mm optical tube/barrel? (for attaching a smartphone/dslr mount
Answer: Yes, the microscope has 23.2mm mounting tube.

User questions & answers

Question: The description makes this sound it's the same slide set as the part number fba_ps-4p12x1-a set. is it indeed the same or a different slide set
Answer: They stand for the reading levels.
Question: Are the subjects in the slides real? I just want to make sure they are fake or crappy looking
Answer: Hi Donald,You can find a copy of the Manual here: http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/model-home.pl?mdl=DVPCX995V&template_id=1®ion_id=1&tab=manuals#/manualsTab
Question: are these universal? will they work with any microscope
Answer: I would say no for the following reasons: First, it has no blue ray symbol where it has all other playable mode symbols and second online references say that Sony (of which this player is that brand) did not put out its first Blue Ray Disc players in the US until 2006. Since in 2008 I only paid $265.00 for this machine on Amazon you know that is not a cost for a "new" technology player when it first comes out. Particularly since I purchased 3 others of the exact same model as early as 2006. However just as a side note, this player plays music CDs, music rewriteables, video and video rewriteables. I purchased the last extra disk player for all my music.
Question: Will these fit in a regular slide box
Answer: Hi Zigmund, This player doesn't have 3D capabilities. -Anthony

User questions & answers

Question: Where are the slides, covers, and dyes manufactured
Answer: First there are no indications on the box of contents where they were manufactured. Having said this, based on the company's profile I would wager they are manufactured in China. All they have state side are representatives but no manufacturing.
Question: What stain would you need to prepare a parasite slide
Answer: As a professional microbiologist ( college professor), I haven't done this in decades, but I'd recommend searching online as staining procedures are very specific for good reason. Timing , techniques for what we term "fuxation", order of staining, rinsing, are the results of many trials. You can try discovering your own pricedure, but you may find it frustrating -or not. One tip: even "pre-cleaned" micro slides need extra cleaning. Buy some Bon Ami cleanser (One of the soft scrubs will work in a pinch), and rinse the slide under running warm tap water. Sprinkle with Bon Ami powder on both sides, and gently scrub with your clean fingers. Rinse both sides. Drain, touching edge to clean, dry paper towel to assist drying. Then rinse with a few drops of 70% isopropyl rubbing alcohol the slide, and drsin and air dry. NOW your slide is clean and grease/oil free. Rinse cover slips under running warm water, then with the alcohol and allow to air dry. These steps will do much to ensure a good outcome to your slide prep work.
Question: The stains came as a dry concentrate but there are no directions as to how to dilute them, how do I do this
Answer: Add one shake/drop of powder to a teaspoon of water. This was our guesstimitation and it worked.
Question: how is the Eosin diluted
Answer: As a Medical Technologist, I can answer that question. Eosin and Methylene Blue are used to stain blood slides. First you make the blood smear, then fix it with an alcohol-based fixative, let it dry. Put the eosin on straight, do not dilute. Then rinse the slide with distilled water, put the methylene blue on, and rinse again. Each stain needs to sit on the slide about a minute, I like to leave them for two minutes. If you don't fix the slide first and let it dry, the blood will wash off. There were no directions included stating that the eosin had the fixative incorporated into it, so I bought separate hematology stains with the fixative included. Let the slide air dry before looking at it under your microscope. Use the oil-immersion lens and immersion oil for best viewing.

User questions & answers

Question: Can i buy a replacemenr ocular lens
Answer: I had same problem at the beginning. I noticed the wheels only turn one round forward and then go backward for one round. Finally I noticed a tiny bur was remained on a wheel and prohibiting it moving forward. After I cut it off entirely, it worked well. Also, when I was not sure whether it was due to solar panel or something else, I used the battery to connect the two cord to test, and wheels could turn with the battery. Therefore, I figured out our lamp light wouldn't make it work. So we waited till the next day to run it in the sun. And it ran very well. User questions & answers

Question: What kind of connection is used to output to a monitor
Answer: Yes, you can. They sell a still and video camera as well. http://www.amscope.com/5-0-mega-pixel-usb-still-photo-live-video-microscope-imager-digital-camera-5mp.htmlhttp://www.amscope.com/0-3-mega-pixel-usb-live-video-microscope-imager-digital-camera.html
Question: Is there an attachment to enable precise movement of the slide on the stage
Answer: Not really. The tapered lens of the SM-1TZ means that the light wants to slide off the end of the lens onto the platform. If you removed the mounting screws and attached it to the microscope using mini bungee cords or rubberbands it could work though. Search Amazon for B004XDC0A8 to find some Keeper yellow mini bungee cords, if that would work for you. Just make sure to connect them in a way that won't shoot your eye out if the cord broke or came undone...
Question: Is this microscope powerful enough to see amebas in pond scum
Answer: Yes. The lens is configured to accept magnification adapters that screw on. There is an area just above where the three screws set into place and holds the light. We use ours without any problems. We do use an additional flex arm LED purchased from Amazon that fully illuminates the work.
Question: Can this show the view on a computer
Answer: I don't know if it has a specific warranty, but there should be a "returnable by" date when you buy it. Amazon is good about handling returns. I have not had any problems with the light, but I noticed that someone else had a defective one that they returned with no trouble.
