Technology
Real life science tools can help kids develop the skills and experience they need to succeed through technology, math, and science. With STEM based technology learning, the sky—or even the universe, is the limit!
Introduction to STEM careers
Who could have guessed that Joy’s love of the rock and mountain formations that abound in her native Colorado would have led her all the way to Mars? Well, not quite all the way, but Joy has devoted her career to studying the planet and, as the Curiosity Rover Deputy Project Scientist and in previous roles on other projects, she has participated in the successful landings of four different rover projects on Mars!

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the power source for this unit |
Answer: | batteries ,,,its an amazing educational toy !!! my kids love it!!! |
Question: | does this project the planets individually |
Answer: | Yes, each planet is its own image. If you have other questions, feel free to reach us at [email protected]. |
Question: | What are the approximate dimensions of the assembled unit? (I want to put it in a small backpack with a few beginning astronomy books |
Answer: | I don't have it with me right now but it is maybe 14 inches long and has a diameter of about 3 inches. It would be pushing it to put it into a small backpack with a lot more stuff, but it would fit if pack were rather empty. My grandson is 9 and he carries it with him everywhere. He absolutely loves it and is quite into astronomy. |
Question: | My child not really interested in the constellations at this time but very serious about the planets. How well are the planets depicted in this item |
Answer: | In my opinion, this item definitely focuses more on the whole solar system and the constellations, rather than individual planets. If this were my child expressing a profound interest in the planets, I’d look elsewhere to quench that potentially life changing curiosity! Good luck! |

User questions & answers
Question: | How does this work? I cannot see anything near or far when looking though the lens |
Answer: | We designed our Explorer Scope, and our other GeoSafari Jr. scopes based on children’s pupillary distance. This is the measure of the distance between an individual’s pupils, and is always measured in millimeters. The average pupillary distance for children is approximately 41-55mm and the Explorer Scope is 47mm. Our other GeoSafari Jr. scopes (Kidnoculars and SubScope) are 48.5mm. The average pupillary distance for adults range from 54-68mm. The reason why most adults may not be able to properly view through the Explorer Scope is due to the alignment for their line of vision is not matched with the pupillary distance of 47 mm. Hope this helps! |

User questions & answers
Question: | What kinds of things are on the slides |
Answer: | 20 slides |
Question: | How many slides are there |
Answer: | You could do so but may have to hold them in place and the voice keeps going on to place a slide in place. The slides which come with the unit are designed to fit, click into, the holder section allowing the unit to determine what slide you are looking at. This unit only has a weak 5x power with no option to focus. Looking at other slides might work but I believe it would be unimpressive. |
Question: | Can other slides be used with this microscope |
Answer: | Yes, I have a 4 yr old.. There are only so many slides and it gets old real quick. |
Question: | Would this be too young for a 7 year old |
Answer: | Hello,This Microscope is made of a hard plastic, making it lighter and very portable. Thank you for your inquiry,National Geographic Toys Customer Support |
