User questions & answers
Question: | Can the magnification vary between 20X & 200X or is it just two fixed magnifications? For example can you magnify 50X or 80X |
Answer: | The zoom is continuous, no fixed magnification levels between maximum and minimum. |
Question: | Can the lighting intensity be varied |
Answer: | Yes. There is a dial on the USB cord that allows you to adjust the intensity. The dial will allow you to turn the light completely off. |
Question: | Hi. Is there anyone who want to make an experiment for me? Can you see any algae or any kind of life in a drop of water |
Answer: | Depending upon the magnification, many "things" can be seen in a drop of pond water. http://www.microworldsphotography.com/Galleries/Microscopic-Creatures/i-cKDFwMC |
Question: | If I press the edge of the microscope flat against a thin piece of paper, I can get only 85x magnification. That's on a 27 inch monitor. Why |
Answer: | This is a confusing issue and the vendors aren't helping with their 2BazillionX magnification claims. In reality you are looking at focal lengths as far as "real" magnification goes and display size as far as "apparent" magnification goes. For real magnification what we are doing is focusing an image on a sensors surface. If we are closer to the subject we are going to cover more sensor surface with the image. This is measured in aspect ratio. If my focused image is the same size on the sensor surface as the subject itself the aspect is 1:1. If the image size is half the life size it's .5:1, etc. So with a 1:1 ratio a 1" subject would yield a 1" image on the sensor surface. 1:1 is usually considered nirvana for macro (super closeup) photography. You can "blow up" a 1:1 image a whole lot without it blurring. This is where the "monitor size" blather comes in. The more dots (pixels) the sensor had the more I can expand my display and still see good detail in the image. (Take a printed image and a decent magnifying glass and you will see the dots) If I expand my display size too much it will blur to the point it's useless to my eyes because my 'dots' are too far apart. The gist of this is that you change true magnification by moving the focus point (focal plane) closer or farther from the image sensor in the microscope. For the scopes smallest image size (lowest magnification) raise the scope body higher and use the focus/zoom wheel on the scope to focus the image. For the largest image size (magnification) you want to get as close to the subject as you can. Then the maximum "magnification" (display size) you use is simply determined by the number of pixels the sensor has. This scope has 5 million. That's a bunch! The photos you get will display well on a projector screen for an audience. As for true magnification this scope will focus down to the point the clear plastic hood touches the subject. This yields about 67X - which is really good for what you paid. Just a few years ago we would be discussing thousands of dollars (and Celestron products) to get clear images this size. I hope this info helps, it should be useful in understanding the measurement function of the software as well. The measurement function is really great for teaching purposes! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this work on a Chromebook |
Answer: | Yes, I am a high school teacher and these devices have totally transformed my microscopy lessons. I use the extension "open screenshot" in lieu of software. Kids can not just see the image on their screen, but can also capture it, annotate it, and then drop it onto their google doc. LOVE these things. |
Question: | Can this be used with a samsung tablet |
Answer: | Probably not. In order for it to work, your tablet needs to support OTG technology and you would probably need an adapter (nicro USB to USB female). There are applications that you can download which will let you know if your tablet supports OTG. My Samsung tablet (Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition) doesn't support OTG. |
Question: | is it compatible with windows |
Answer: | I am using it with Windows 8 because it will not work with OS X on my Mac. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How do you turn it on? All I get is the opening setup screen and no instructions |
Answer: | been a while since I have used mine, however, connect power cord to wall, or use 4 AA batteries, then I turn lights on, and push and hold screen power button. after that, this is a "touch Screen" so there are hidden commands that you can pull up by touching the lower or upper "edge" of the screen. they will come to view then. did your microscope come with a manual (about 4 pages in english, the rest is all other languages) ? |
Question: | The reviews posted are often for other Celestron microscopes. I would like to know specifically how this model performs. Can someone post a review |
Answer: | Like others, I have a different model (44345), but all models are pretty much the same, Mine is listed as a 5mp, but there are doc's listing it as 2mp and others as 5mp, You will replace the objectives! so don't buy it for them. The top LED is trash not bright enough for anything I have found! The unit has a auto focus and white balance with no way adjust or shut it off.So in the beginning it was almost useless to me, I added better Objectives and then discovered I could over power the auto light adjust. The cost of Microscope light are VERY high, so I added a Sewing machine LED lamp about $100 cheaper.I use it for insects, I have to trick it to get a good Pic, I flood it with light then turn down the base light with the disk (to almost blocking the light). Also it readjust the light after ever pic.I am getting what I need to complete the job.The Base stand is nice, I got mine at Fry's |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is there a time delay, if I want to "work on" the object being displayed |
Answer: | I never noticed a time delay - but will not swear that the answer is zero. It could be relatively small and not normally discernable. Anyway - I am happy with the Celestron 5MP InfiniView. |
Question: | What is the difference between this and the "celestron 5mp infiniview lcd digital microscope"? the specs all look the same |
Answer: | As far as I could tell when researching myself the only difference is the Cosmos branding. |
Question: | Up to what magnification is offered |
Answer: | Celestron 5 MP actually has the resolution of its shots 5 - 12 megapixels. Setting to 5 mpx is optimal IMHO. The size and resolution of your computer display is very important when we speak of the microscope magnification. If you watch your shot on the small, build-in screen (300x200 pixels) you, of course, cannot have great magnification (anyway I enjoy it). A 5 megapixels picture taken by the microscope must be viewed on the screen with comparable resolution (wide * height ~= 5000000 pixel). If you have it and the microscope zoom is maximized you will have 200x magnification and even more. I can't say more precisely now. IMHO, quality of the microscope optic is good, and shots are nice. Please, pay attention that this microscope is designed to look AT objects (light falls on the object). When you use a classic microscope you use transillumination (light behind the object). So if you want to look at plant cells you probably should search for a classic type of a microscope. In general, I've got what I wanted. The only bad thing I met is that the microscope software provided on the CD disk refused to work at my Windows XP SP3. But anyway you can connect the microscope to a computer via USB and treat it like a flash drive. In "My computer" folder you will have Microscope Icon, and you can run the windows master for taking shot from microscope, directly on your computer. |
Question: | Is it MAC compatible |
Answer: | Yes it is Mac compatible. |

Question: | How far below the lenses can the slide table move? I want to look at things without putting them on slides |
Answer: | I would give it about a 4 out of 5 |
Question: | who is the best type of user for this product |
Answer: | I was very disappointed in recent Dyson ball products. The newer versions are more cumbersome and much harder to handle. The vacuum worked once and I returned it. The animal version was no better. It was returned as well. Perhaps I got a bad batch. I don't know. However, the much older versions of the Dyson worked much better. I had one for four years before it "bit the dust." No pun intended. If you have a Consumer Reports online access check there for the best brand of vacuums |
Question: | what are on the prepared slides |
Answer: | The Dyson that I have it does not have a retractable cord. However it's the best vacuum I have ever used. Lightweight maneuverable and it's amazing how much dirt it does pick up |
Question: | Can you use it to view cells clearly |
Answer: | You contact Amazon and your seller through your order, in "Returns & Orders" in the upper right hand spot on your computer screen. "Seller Feedback" and "Request Return" should start your process. |

User questions & answers
Question: | can we watch bacteria on hands with this |
Answer: | No, the Celestron Kids Let Your Child Explore the World Microscope does not have enough magnification to watch bacteria on hands. |
Question: | Would a 5 year old enjoy using it? Would a lower magnification level (e.g., 30x to 60x) be better for a 5 year old |
Answer: | For a 5 yo I would go with a lower power. Young kids like a "big picture" view vs a small magnified view. This will only magnify a very small area and you have to move it around. I use it to examine a knife edge polish when using Japanese water stones for sharpening my Japanese kitchen knives. 10-20x would probably be better for you. Hope this helps. |
Question: | Age range |
Answer: | The World Microscope can be used below 14 years of age with adult supervision. |
Question: | Does this work with slides |
Answer: | I believe it could work fine with slides by simply placing the base on one end of the slide, but it doesn't have a mount specifically designed to hold slides such as more expensive units do. On the other hand you can put this in your pocket and enjoy it anywhere while your expensive one is sitting at home on the bench! |
