Product description

Maglite LED 3-Cell D Flashlight, Black

Like many other manufacturers, Mag Instrument has expanded its line of flashlights to include models featuring LED-type bulbs. Why? LEDs are virtually unbreakable, and they are far more efficient than incandescent bulbs. As the product name suggests, this Maglite runs on 3 D-type batteries, which will take a while to run out thanks not only to the LEDs but also to Mag Instrument's "Intelligent Energy Source Management," which balances high brightness against extended battery life. The bright, powerful beam adjusts from spot to flood simply by rotating the head. The case is made from a high-strength aluminum alloy that has been anodized inside and out, which gives you water- and shock-resistance in a lightweight package. High-quality O-rings at both openings keep water away from the batteries. In other words, this energy-efficient flashlight is almost indestructible--a good quality when it comes to the tools. Limited lifetime warranty. Batteries not included.--Josh Dettweiler

User questions & answers

Question: What's is the lumens
Answer: I don't know about that but I can say it's blazingly bright. It's the brightest flashlight I've ever owned
Question: Where is this flashlight manufactured? What's the battery life? How many lumens
Answer: Maybe final assembly in US, but it’s all Chinese made Sh&#. It’s a shame what Streamlight did to its quality by outsourcing to China.
Question: I would like to know why there are different prices for different colors
Answer: I do not own this light, but a comment was made you would need to buy a $200 flashlight to light up the Boeing at 130 feet. I would suggest you try MAG D cell LED flashlights. They are not pocket size but will set you back less than $30 and will throw a bright beam well over a 100 yards. IMO MAG is probable one of the few that rate their output in a straight forward manner. The 3 D cell LED will throw a beam 412 meters/1351 ft./450 yards and is rated at 168 Lumens. But MAG will truthfully tell you the light output at that distance is equal to a very bright full moon. You likely will not see a missing rivet.
Question: Image of this flashlight says 79h? Does it will run for 79 hours
Answer: Not this one at least. I have a story those those who don't think an LED flashlight can do this.....I do have another light that burned me pretty bad one time. Manker E14: small light unregulated 1000 lumens on high and a copper head to wick heat from the driver. Second degree burn; I had a gnarly blister for a few weeks after that.

Question: Does the blue filter come with it
Answer: Blue filter is inside the larger head.

Bright lights, burly cases, fail-safe on/off switches, virtual indestructibility: there are very good reasons to rave about Mag Instrument flashlights. It goes without saying that a flashlight defeats its own purpose if it can't be trusted, which is why so many people spend a little extra for this four D-cell Mag-Lite. We've dropped ours off ladders, kicked it down stairs--just generally abused the thing--and it lights up now just as readily as it did when we first turned it on. Speaking of which, the on/off switch is one of the first things to fail on generic flashlights. Mag-Lite's switch is rubber coated and weather protected; frankly, it seems incapable of ever wearing out, even after thousands of clicks. Plus, twisting the flashlight's head gives you an option between a tight beam and a floodlight. More importantly, the combination of a supertough krypton gas lamp and high-quality reflectors provides unusually bright light. There's also an extra lamp in the tail cap so you've always got a backup--how many other flashlights deliver that?

But the Mag's indestructibility is its main selling point. Mag Instrument builds its flashlights with ultrastrong aluminum alloy cases that have been anodized both inside and out to resist rust. High-quality O-rings at both openings keep water away from the batteries. It's hard to imagine damaging one of these lights. Think of it this way: if, as one of our customers suggests, there were a kingdom of flashlights, Mag-Lite would be crowned king. --Jon Groebner

User questions & answers

Question: What is the part number and where can I buy replacement bulbs
Answer: Well the handles the width of my hand with the head of the light sticking out i’d say it’s about inch and a quarter around maybe 1 inch . It’s a great light VERY bright on high , batteries are expensive but I found a 12 pack at Lowe’s for $27 and that beat anywhere online and they’re actually good surefire quality batteries
Question: Ours has a 'black" spot in the middle of the light. Any idea how to fix this - a new bulb
Answer: These answers are all over the place. Here's how the Streamlight 88085 works: First, you don't have to buy or use the rechargeable battery at all. It will operate on two CR123A batteries. If you do buy the rechargeable Streamlight 18650 battery with the light, the battery itself has a port that requires a USB micro-B plug. The other end of that cable can plug into any charging source (e.g. computer USB port, plug-in charger with a USB connection) to charge the battery. The battery must be removed from the flashlight to charge it. This procedure is for the STREAMLIGHT battery only. I don't have any experience with other brands of 18650 batteries. Good luck. -- Loren
Question: about how long is this light? thanks
Answer: It's an hl-x so it's 1000 lumens. The description is wrong and says it's a 2l-x. It's not a 2l-x.
Question: How many lumens
Answer: The video says 600, here y'all are saying 1000/500 what is the real number? I'm aware it has 3 modes, high/strobe/low, just not sure of the intensity the flashlight puts out.

  • "Spot-to-flood" Adjustable LED beam
  • Anodized for corrosion resistance and durability

  • Compact design

User questions & answers

Question: Does it have a spare bulb on the bottom
Answer: The way to get rid of the black spot is to take thehead of the flashlight completely off and adjust the small light housing. I way this can take hours of doing this till you get rid of the black spot. When you do get it done, you'll be impressed with the solid circle. But it can hours or even a few days to get it right. Hope this helps.
Question: Would this work for safety
Answer: Ann, I've never had to replace a bulb in one of these lights, but I dug out the spare bulb that comes in the butt of the flashlight (it's hidden in the grey foam, underneath the spring). The markings on the spare bulb are: "MAG +2 Cell HK 1A6". When I Googled that I got several hits, but I suspect that just about any bulb designed for a 2-D flashlight will work. You need to decide what TYPE you like the best -- My favorite is the Krypton bulb -- Rayovac makes a K2 and a KPR102, and EveReady makes a KPR102. That's what I'd use.
Question: purchased this light and stored it in my bug out bag for a long time, replaced batteries but light will not turn on Any answers to what went wrong
Answer: The 6 D-cell daylight is a less than dainty 19 1/2 , ( yes, nineteen and one half) inches long. The 2 1/2 head and 1 1/4 diameter is about right and pretty standard for d cells. It is also quite heavy and makes for a sturdy club. Completely sealed against the weather. Should last a lifetime. Those other answers may be for the 3 cell.
Question: the picture shows 226 lumens but the description says 272 lumens. which one is correct for this current model
Answer: Maglite advertises as 168 lumens. Research lumens/luminosity for yourself to understand how the "here today - gone tomorrow" tactical flashlight manufacturers are inflating their advertised lumen rating. With the Maglite 3D LED you get a very durable and rugged flashlight. It is also extremely bright with a long beam throw. I live on the Black Warrior river and can light the opposite shore line using the Maglite, whereas my so-called tactical 1000 lumen light will not. The bottom line: when the power goes out, or when I go for an evening walk down the river bank; it is the Maglite that goes with me. I highly recommend.

User questions & answers

Question: I ordered this through Prime Marine Tackle & Gun but they only sent me the pro model... (not the plus) Is this product the pro or the pro plus
Answer: Only way to tell if its pro plus model besides the packaging is to see if it has low-high brightness output. Turned on pointing down is low. Turned on pointing horizontal or up is high setting.
Question: does this have the SOS feature? or is it just high/low
Answer: Just high and low. No SOS Low is turn on by pointing flash light down. High by holding horizontal. High is very bright.
Question: Can i switch the end of the lite with a nite ize luc2-07 led conversion & tail cap on/off cap
Answer: I installed the nite ize luc2-07 on mine and it works great. My flashlight is an older model but I do not believe they changed the specs. You still have to twist the head a quarter turn for the nite ize switch to operate but you can leave the head in the on position. I found the led conversion to be significantly brighter than the stock bulbs.
Question: Is this the version with the 272 lumens
Answer: The material that came with mine claims 281 lumens.
