Answer:	AA batteries are required to operate the thermostat. The 'C' wire can be connected but the thermostat will not function without the batteries.

Answer:	The AA batteries are required. The thermostat cannot use a 'C' wire for power. There are 2 warnings for battery power, but instructions say to replace batteries yearly even without seeing warning. If changed quickly, you don't lose anything, but they say you don't lose programming-only date and time if slow like me!

Question:	Why does it say it's only good for one use? Why it cannot be used for other emergencies
Answer:	It depends on the width of the wall, more than the window sill. The two pieces of the frame which make contact with the inside and outside wall are about 6" apart. A larger sill should fit between, but since that measurement is 12", I do not believe it would accommodate a 13" sill.
Question:	Will this fit over a window sill with a width of about 13 inches
Answer:	Actually, I just took it out and remeasured. It's adjustable so it looks like it would accommodate a 10" wall, and up to a 15" sill.
Question:	What is the largest dimension wall will this accomodate
Answer:	The instructions say it is designed for one time use only. The instructions tell you to practice mounting the ladder for deployment, but are very specific about not pulling the release strap to deploy the ladder.
Question:	Do you know if this ladder is retractable? The idea being that you could practice with this item and repack it again
Answer:	It depends how tall you are. I am 5'1". My knee reaches 25" when the pedal is up. If you have long legs 26" will not be high enough.

They don’t recommend installing these above a covered porch but I just bought the three story for a two story so it would have extra length to go over the covered porch. I think above the window would work.

Answer:	The ladder itself is 13 inches wide, but you need extra space between the studs to mount the box in the wall. We mounted our ladder in a box which is fastened to the studs due to an electrical outlet under the window.
