11 best kidde keyless locks
Kidde is a well-known brand in the field of fire safety and security products. They offer a range of products, including combination smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, as well as keyless locks, designed to enhance home safety and security.
Keyless locks from Kidde are electronic or mechanical locks that don't require a traditional physical key for entry. Instead, they use a code or combination to unlock doors, providing a convenient and secure way to control access to your home. Here are some common features and benefits associated with Kidde keyless locks:
Convenience: Keyless locks eliminate the need for carrying and managing physical keys, which can be lost or duplicated. Instead, users can enter a unique PIN code to gain access to their property.
Enhanced Security: These locks often provide a higher level of security compared to traditional locks, as they are less susceptible to picking or bumping.
Multiple User Codes: Many Kidde keyless locks allow homeowners to program multiple user codes, making it easy to grant temporary access to guests, service providers, or family members.
Audible Alarms: Some models may have audible alarms or alerts to signal unauthorized attempts to enter, adding an extra layer of security.
Battery-Powered: Depending on the model, Kidde keyless locks may be battery-powered, ensuring functionality even during power outages.
Weather Resistance: Certain keyless locks are designed to withstand various weather conditions, making them suitable for outdoor use, such as on gates or sheds.
Easy Installation: Kidde keyless locks are often designed for straightforward installation, allowing homeowners to upgrade their security without extensive expertise.
Access Control: Homeowners have the ability to change or reset codes as needed, providing greater control over access to their property.
It's important to note that specific features and capabilities can vary between different models of Kidde keyless locks. When considering a keyless lock for your home, you should review the product specifications and user manual provided by the manufacturer to ensure it meets your specific security and functionality requirements. Additionally, regular maintenance and code management are essential to maintaining the security of your keyless lock.

User questions & answers
Question: | Are there screw holes in the portable version |
Answer: | If you have the portable version, it does have the holes for mounting. |
Question: | How many different combination does this have? is "anyb" the same as "bayn"? with push button ones "2468" is the same as |
Answer: | First, it's 3 letters. It spins like a combination lock, so PIN is different than NIP. I got this over the number ones because unless you are changing the numbers all the time, the numbers you use will wear away and it will be easier to guess the numbers. We've been using this for years and love it. |
Question: | Can this be mounted on masonry? I want to install it outside my brownstone. Thanks |
Answer: | Sure, you will need a masonry drill and masonry anchors for the screws, but it can be done if you have those. I would suggest that mounting it on a wood door frame is much easier though. |
Question: | Is there enough room in this box to hold a key fob |
Answer: | Hello. I think if it is not too thick. The part that holds the key also has the dial on it. The key is held with a clip. I usually don't unclip the key. I just keep it attached and unlock the door and then replace the whole thing into the box. There really isn't much room between the insert and the back of the box. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will it fit over a car door |
Answer: | I wouldn't recommend it and certainly wouldn't put on my car. It's quite heavy and it's also very rigidly straight so I can't visualize it fitting anyplace that's not completely straight. |
Question: | What size door does the bracket fit |
Answer: | Hi,Thank you for getting in touch! For most entry doors, the hook that hangs on the door should be thin enough for you to be able to close the door though the door may be a bit tighter than usual. If your door is already an unusually tight fit, it may be an issue. For any further queries Please Kidde Product Support at 1-800-880-6788. Thank you for your interest.I hope this information addresses your needs. We look forward to welcoming you as our customer.Yours Sincerely,NaseerCustomer Support RepresentativeTempus & Co. |
Question: | Does the bracket prevent it from being removed from door when door is closed closed |
Answer: | Yes. The unit hooks over the door so that when the door is closed, the unit cannot be removed. |
Question: | How do you program the code |
Answer: | Very easy, the black round circles on the back have an arrow, difficult to see, but just turn the arrow the opposite direction with a small screw driver, and that number now becomes one that must be pushed to open the box. Box can be opened in any order of numbers, ie. one of my address codes is 1103. but 1,0,&3 will open the box in any order. Hope that helped. ask again for more info. Dave V |

User questions & answers
Question: | how to release shackle |
Answer: | There are four screw holes inside the device. You would line up the keysafe to whatever you would like to attach it to and drill the screws from the inside of the device into the wall (or whatever you are attaching it to). |
Question: | I reset the code, yet the front plate will not fit back into the box bc the metal piece that should open (above the word "open") does not release |
Answer: | You can change the code - This assumes you used your old code and got the lid separated from the box - pull of the white Kidde plastic plate off to reveal the set screws and corresponding button numbers - Get your magnifier glass out - look very closely at each screw to reveal the directional arrow - which is almost invisible to the naked eye. Stand the lid with the key holder up - (1 off 6) on the instructional plate. Then with a screw driver align all the arrows on the screw straight up. That means all the 10 screws are in the off position. Then press clear on the Front of the lid. Now write the numbers you want to use as your new code. (A birthday might help memory usage) Next with your screw driver, on the screw side of the lid, turn only the numbers you want to use in the on position down or in the opposite direction (0 on 5). Now press the clear on the other side of the lid. Time to test push the number pins in your new code and try the open button. You will see both the open and the clear buttons move and the lock moves inside the device to lock. Put your key(s) on the holder place the Kidde white screw cover back on and you are good to go. You must put the code in. Hold the OPEN button down on the lid until you position the lid on the box bottom first never releasing the open button until it is in the lock position. You cannot open the box without a working code. |
Question: | How do you change the combination |
Answer: | Mine worked about a week. The first amazon person to help me was expecting me to go through the company that manufactured it! Then I was to send back with my key in it! Finally I got someone that got realistic and refunded me. Good luck! I was very unhappy as I had read all reviews. |
Question: | is this waterproof |
Answer: | Perhaps with a hammer and chisel On the side of the lid will pop it open. There is no way to reset the code nor is there an override code. You can always try to guess. At least it doesnt lock you out after so many wrong tries. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this fit a garage door opener |
Answer: | It would fit a 1.5"x3" opener in it on the bottom, not hanging. I could fit two of those openers side by side. It would probably fit even better without the metal clip on the back. Although it should fit still fit with the metal clip on the back. |
Question: | I would like to order 3 of these. Can I get them keyed alike |
Answer: | The user sets the combination and can therefore set them all identically. |
Question: | Does this unit come with the 60 key tags? It does not specify that |
Answer: | Yes, small tags with small rings. I've used a few. Also, the tags come with a set of numbers you can stick on the tags. |
Question: | The cabinet is locked, clear button is being slid down, combo is entered but the knob just turns and doesn't open the door any advice |
Answer: | I figured it out using a light and magnifier allowing me to see the arrow indicators were almost all turned ON. I rotated them all to OFF and slid the "Clear" button. The lock was unlocked. I started from beginning to set a code following the instructions again. Voila...It is performing as expected. Basically, check/reset all the buttons to OFF, Clear, no combo is set. Turn your number arrows to ON, Clear, combo is set. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Do these require some kind of battery to operate |
Answer: | No battery required. The combination system is completely mechanical. Once you depress the correct buttons for the combination the knob that you turn to unlock the box is allowed to spin. You turn this knob manually. (Not sure if "knob" is the right description for the thing you turn but it's just a mechanism that you grab and twist to open the lock.) |
Question: | I heard that this comes with it's own weather cover (which is not pictured). Is this accurate |
Answer: | They sell different versions with or without the weather cover. The cover is also sold separately. Read the description carefully to see which version you are buying. |
Question: | After opening the box to gain access, do you need to re-enter the security code to close it |
Answer: | Directly from the instructions - Opening and Closing your KeySafe: 1. Press down on the CLEAR button. 2. Enter the combination. If you enter an incorrect combination, press down on the CLEAR button to reset the buttons and reenter the combination. 3. Turn the OPEN handle clockwise 180° to open. When you turn the handle, the combination will clear. Note: The open handle is designed so it cannot be forced open. If an incorrect code is entered and the handle is forced, the handle will unlatch from the locking mechanism and turn freely without opening the KeySafe. To reset the handle, turn it all the way back to the locked position where it will snap back into place. 4. To relock, close the lid and turn the OPEN handle counter-clockwise 180° back to the locked position.Bottom line: no, you do not need to re-enter the security code to close it. |
Question: | Difference between alarm unit and other less expensive no alarm unit |
Answer: | This is a very strong box that holds up to maybe 5 keys. Unit screws to a secure place like a heavy door or solid wall. It is like a miniature safe. To break it open would be difficult as it is strong. If mounted securely, hard to remove. I have bought 2, and use them for my elders. They work great. Recommend it. at night bring a flashlight or cell phone to light it up so you can unlock it. No Alarm on it. I don't know if any have a alarm. o attach to existing alarm. |

The P4010ACSCO-W is an AC/dc powered smoke and carbon monoxide (Co) alarm with 10 year battery backup that features supervised wire-free interconnect capability and provides enhanced intelligibility for users. The voice warning feature accompanies the 85Db tone during an alarm event, and helps reduce confusion with verbal announcements such as “replace alarm” at end of alarm life, and “hush mode activated” when a nuisance alarm is silenced. The three color LED ring helps users quickly determine standby, alarm, or error mode of the alarm. Kidde P4010 series alarms contain 10-year tamper proof batteries that eliminate the need for battery replacement, and ends worry over unauthorized removal. Users are further shielded from late night battery chirps by the United ambient light sensing feature, which establishes a day/night cycle and prevents alarm chirping in dark conditions. Wire-free or hardwire interconnect triggers each connected alarm in the network to sound Once smoke or Co is detected, which can provide more time to react to a hazard. The national fire alarm and Signaling code (NFPA 72) has required smoke alarms in new homes to be interconnected since 1989, which traditionally involves running wiring to each alarm. Older and remodeled homes can now be updated to current standards without having to run new interconnect wiring to each alarm (AC power wiring still required). existing networks of interconnected alarms can be expanded with use of a single P4010ACSCO-W and additional Kidde wire-free alarms
- Wire-free interconnect
- Voice notifications
- Flashing LED status ring
- 10 -year sealed lithium battery backup
- Wireless interconnect compatible only with other P4010 Wire-Free models
User questions & answers
Question: | Can I connect this with Kidde heat alarm via wire and expect to connect other separate wireless alarms with these two |
Answer: | No, these only connect wirelessly. There is no wire to connect wired. |
Question: | If 1 unit is hard wired and the other is wireless, how many wireless units can I connect to the 1 hard wired unit |
Answer: | If the hard wired unit is a combo wired/wireless then you can connect a combination of up to 24 devices based on the requirements of NFPA standards. I suggest you read the online available manuals for the units you are considering because too lengthy an explanation for this space. Also, and most important, verify your local code requirements which will govern over all other requirements. |
Question: | Does this unit also connect to other hard-wired smoke alarms through the red wire |
Answer: | yes |
Question: | If you have multiple units and they all go off, will hushing one unit turn them all off or do you have to hush every unit individually |
Answer: | When the alarms are going off, there is always one that is going off and setting off all of the others. WIth the P4010 wireless alarms, that originating alarm setting off all of the others will have a green light flashing every second while all of the alarms are going off. This will be the alarm you will want to HUSH. This is done intentionally so that you will examine the area where the alarm is before you hush the alarm and the system. These alarms also have a locate feature on them. From the owner's manual: In an interconnected system (all units will be alarming together), a unit that detects smoke or CO and initiates an alarm is called the “initiating alarm unit.” Initiating alarm units will be flashing the Green LED every second during alarm. Depending on unit locations, and the location of the source of smoke or CO, it is possible to have more than one initiating unit. If you suspect a nuisance alarm situation, you can use this feature to help you locate the initiating alarm unit(s) in a wireless alarm interconnect system. Push the button on any non-initiating wireless unit, and ALL wireless units EXCEPT the initiating alarm unit(s) will silence for two minutes. You can use the LOCATE feature repeatedly until you find the initiating alarm unit(s), or the air has been cleared of the condition causing the alarm. |
Product features
Wire-Free Interconnect
This smoke and CO alarm can be connected to up to 24 compatible smoke, heat and CO devices to monitor your whole home. It uses radio signals to create an independent network with other devices so that you do not need to have a home wi-fi system. It has intelligent “self-enrollment” features to quickly set up your network.
Why TruSense?
As home furnishings and construction materials have transitioned to the use of synthetic materials, which may react differently in a home fire, the industry standards for smoke alarms have changed. Smoke alarms will be required to pass both flaming and smoldering polyurethane tests, as well as a “nuisance test” whereby devices must not alarm when subjected to certain types of cooking. Kidde’s TruSense Technology meets the latest industry standards to respond to these types of fires, and helps reduce cooking nuisance alarms. Users will be alerted to actual fire emergencies and won’t be as tempted to disable an alarm to avoid nuisance alarms.
Convenient features
To prevent the alarm from sounding at inconvenient times, it includes ambient light sensing, which allows it to establish day/night cycles depending on the alarm location. A valid cycle will prevent network error, low battery and end of device chirps from sounding until the next day cycle, so you won’t be woken up during the night.

User questions & answers
Question: | Are these mechanically operated or do they require some kind of battery |
Answer: | It is a non-electric, mechanical push-button operation. No Batteries or electrical connections. It is the best one that I have seen because it has a hard rubber weather cover that also hides its function as well so is less obvious. |
Question: | What are the inside dimensions? Would it fit a gate remote2 1/2 x 3 7/8 x |
Answer: | no |
Question: | What are the interior dimensions of this lock box? I am looking for a box that fits a gate opener 2"w, 3 3/4"L x 1" deep |
Answer: | 2 3/8 x 3 3/4 x 1 1/2 depth |
Question: | What are the interior dimensions of this lock box? I am looking for a box that fits a gate opener 2"w, 3 3/4"L x 1" deep |
Answer: | inside dimension measures 2-3/8" wide X 3-3/4" high X 2" deep; however, there is a stub at inside top, center that is about 1/2" wide, appears solidly formed during the same poured forging process, runs from inside front to back wall, and at its lowest point inside the box is about 5/8", so you would probably subtract that 5/8" from the overall measurement of the height (3-3/4), and as you are looking for 3-3/4 long, or high as I put it, would likely NOT fit unless your device is somewhat U-shaped on one of the long ends so that the interior latching stub would not interfere. If, however, your device is fairly solidly rectangular to the dimensions you listed, I'm afraid it would not fit. Other than that, I really like this key/card safe as it appears capable of holding more than the much smaller units of similar design. I hope that helps answer your question. rob |
