12 best mice poisons
Mice poisons are pest control products designed to eliminate or control mouse infestations. They are often categorized as baits and lures and are used in the context of pest control, particularly in outdoor areas such as gardens and lawns. Here's what you should know about mice poisons:
Purpose: Mice poisons are used to effectively and efficiently control mouse populations that may be causing damage to gardens, lawns, or other outdoor areas. These poisons are designed to attract mice and eventually lead to their elimination.
Types of Poisons: There are different types of mouse poisons available, including:
Bait Blocks: These are solid blocks of poison that are placed in areas frequented by mice. Mice consume the bait and are affected by the toxic ingredients.
Pellets: Poison pellets are small, grain-sized formulations that can be scattered or placed in bait stations.
Liquid Baits: Some mouse poisons are available in liquid form. These can be used in bait stations or applied directly to areas where mice are active.
Gels: Gel-based poisons are viscous substances that can be applied in cracks, crevices, or areas where mice are likely to travel.
Active Ingredients: Common active ingredients in mouse poisons include anticoagulants like brodifacoum, bromadiolone, and diphacinone. These substances interfere with the mouse's blood-clotting ability, leading to internal bleeding and ultimately death.
Bait Stations: It's important to use bait stations when using mouse poisons. Bait stations are designed to hold the poison securely and prevent access by pets, children, and non-target animals. They also protect the bait from environmental factors.
Safety Precautions: When using mouse poisons, it's crucial to follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully. Keep poisons out of reach of children and pets. Use gloves when handling poisons and avoid direct contact with the product.
Placement: Mouse poisons should be strategically placed in areas where mice are active, such as along their runways, near burrows, or in locations where their droppings are visible.
Monitoring: Regularly check and replenish mouse poisons as needed. Mice may take several days to ingest a lethal dose, so patience is required in waiting for results.
Disposal: Dispose of empty bait containers and unused bait properly according to local regulations. Do not scatter used bait or containers where pets or wildlife can access them.
Effectiveness: Mouse poisons are generally effective at reducing mouse populations when used correctly. However, it's essential to address the underlying conditions that attract mice, such as food sources and entry points, to prevent future infestations.
Consider Alternatives: Before using mouse poisons, consider non-lethal alternatives for managing mouse populations, such as humane traps, exclusion methods, and sanitation practices to remove attractants.
In summary, mouse poisons are a common tool in pest control, especially in outdoor areas like gardens and lawns. They are designed to eliminate mouse infestations by attracting and ultimately poisoning the mice. Proper usage, safety precautions, and monitoring are essential when using these products to ensure effective and responsible pest control.

Question: | Will the bait by itself also kill rats? they've been eating the bait I set out. I'm not using the mouse trap. thanks |

Question: | Ive had 1 rat outsmart everything acept it did eat your d con bait 2 blocks will this bait kill this rat how long will it take for the rat to die thx |
Answer: | no |
Question: | cholecalciferol (d3) is the active ingredient ? no anticoagulants? contains anticoagulant diphacinone? whats the truth |
Answer: | I would say yes. It drills thru 30s old steel with ease so China steel is no problem |
Question: | Is this just the bait ? I allready have the station |
Answer: | Yes. The critical issue is having the correct bit. Since this is a 3/8" drill you need to be certain the shank of the bit you select is 3/8" or less but since this is a very common size you shouldn't have a problem. I presume you don't plan on making holes larger than 1/2" because with a relatively small drill like this it will take you a long time, particularly in a hard metal. Be very careful to follow instructions that come with the bit as some need a drilling oil. |

Question: | what kind of bait should you buy for rats that leave order and eat wood |
Answer: | Put down the entire pellet so they can eat it. Do not put it inside of the bait home. That is way too small for field rats. |

Answer: | The green baits go in the black plastic holders so mice can get in but the child cannot! |
Question: | How wide is the opening? Could a squirrel get in |
Answer: | A squirrel couldn't get into the bait through the opening, but I could see a determined squirrel trying to chew through the housing if it wanted the bait. |
Question: | I cannot get into the thing. Can someone enlighten me? It appears to be more than child and pet resistant |
Answer: | No, it’s child proof only, maybe get an adult to help? |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is it only for indoor or outdoor too |
Answer: | Could work outdoors if you know where rats or mice are located/path they travel. |
Question: | Will it kill mice |
Answer: | It definitely kills rats. We had 1 or more and within a few days of putting the Tomcat out, they were gone. I haven’t seen any dead mice but I’m assuming it kills them too. |
Question: | Will this work for deer mice |
Answer: | I haven't heard of deer mice, But it works pretty good with mice and rats. |
Question: | Should I get this bag design or the bait block, I will be using them in unfinished attic and inside walls. Thanks |
Answer: | Same experience- the DeCon pellets work. The blocks made by either company do not work. Have tried the blocks with and without the wrapper. ( use gloves when taking off the wrapper...Odd that there are no instructions regarding the wrapper. Leave on or off. ) Bottom line is the blocks do not work. Pellets do, but they are off the market. My guess is for child and pet safety reasons. The warfarin active can kill and I guess if a hawk or fox eats a poisoned mouse.....Unfortunately, the old snap trap is the way to go. Glue traps are inhumane. |

EcoClear Products 620200-6D MouseX All-Natural Non-Toxic Humane Mouse Killer Pellets, 8 oz. Bag. MouseX is a 100% non-toxic, one-of-a-kind, all-natural, humane method to kill mice that is 100% safe for people, pets and all other wildlife. Manufactured from natural vegetable and cereal grains; just one feeding is all it takes for MouseX to be effective. MouseX works due to the unique digestive system all mice possess; it kills by coating their stomach lining and eliminating all messages to the brain to drink water. Within a day or two of feeding, dehydration leads to blood thickening and circulatory collapse; they become lethargic and retreat to burrows where they lapse into a coma and die. This is a very humane method of death; mice feel no pain or discomfort they simply fall asleep. There is an absence of smell due to a mummification process eliminating up to 90% of odor. Used correctly death occurs within 2 to 4 days of feeding (dependent upon size of rodent). During this time you may actually see more mice since they are lethargic and slow to react to disturbance. Mice naturally eat up to 10% of their body weight per feeding. To be effective just 4-6% of their body weight of MouseX is needed: 10-15 grams or 1/3 to 1/2 oz. How to use MouseX: Remove all other food sources from area being treated. Place pellets in any areas where mouse activity is seen; particularly along runs and holes. Prepare small bags of product using "cling wrap" style food film or small sandwich bags; place directly into holes and voids where mice are present. Try our convenient Empty Bait Trays (B071VWPMCG) and RatX Attractant (B01J3VO6ZQ) both sold separately on Amazon. Don't underestimate the amount of mice present; re-visit the areas to re-fill regularly. Keep pellets dry; wetting reduces effectiveness. Continue to bait until mouse activity ceases. An indicator of consumption will be fecal droppings bleached in color and up to 3 times larger than normal. PLEASE NOTE: voles, gophers, and moles have a different digestive system than mice or rats and will not be killed by this product. MouseX is available in: 8 oz, and 1 pound bags as well as 2, 4, and 8-packs of pre-measured 3 oz bait trays. EcoClear “The Non-Toxic Solution to Pest Control”
- Humanely kills mice; non-toxic and 100% SAFE for people, pets and wildlife

Answer: | Mice eat this and do not die! I had to buy covered mouse traps in order to get rid of them |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will this work for Voles |
Answer: | Yes, the sections of the bars are difficult to break so I usually put the whole block in a plastic bag and lay the block on a right-angled surface(I use my deck railing) and smack one section off at a time with a hammer. Don't give up with the mice not eating it. If they have nothing else to eat they will find the bars. Sometimes it takes persistence until they are hungry. Good luck with it. I have to say my bars work!! |
Question: | Can I just put the whole bag in a crawl space ? Or do I need to open the bag |
Answer: | This is a box of 8- one pound packages, with each package having eight bars that you have to break apart. They are pretty tough to snap, and the crumbs go everywhere. If you are putting the bars in small bait stations, the pre-cut small chunks in the big bucket will be a lot easier to handle. However, if you are treating a large barn where you can hide the bars instead of using bait stations, this package of larger bars will do the trick. |
Question: | I’ve seen mixed reviews on if this gets rid of chipmunks, someone please give me a proper answer |
Answer: | This particular product comes as a cellophane wrapped bar scored into sections so it can be broken into pieces. |
Question: | How many days does it take to kill rodents? I have been placing a handful for 4 days and every day all the nuggets are gone. Am I just feeding them |
Answer: | Please keep away from animals! Lethal to dogs and cats! If you have cats outside they can get poisoned from eating the mice that have eaten the poison |

User questions & answers
Question: | Will these also kill squirrels that get in the attic |
Answer: | Check with the Fresno County Animal Control please. This product is not legal in some areas of California and the fine could very well be far more expensive than you care to pay. |
Question: | Will ground squirrels eat this too |
Answer: | Ground squirrels are typically smaller than red squirrels and it kills them, so I would assume it would kill them all. The only problem is that you have to be careful where you lay it because it can kill any small animal, if they eat enough of it. This is the reason for using the PVC pipe into the burrows and putting it down there. |
Question: | How many pieces in 4 lbs? What do you recommend as bait station |
Answer: | Thank you for the question Victor. This is a product that will kill the mice and the great thing is that mice do not have a lot of moisture in their body and will not stink, if you have Rats it will be different they do have a lot of moisture and they will stink for up to 5 days or more. please read the label and follow the instructions for proper PPE and use of this product. |
Question: | What's the active ingredient in this product |
Answer: | This is a "first generation anti-coagulant". That means an animal has to eat some every day for 5-7 days in a row to die. The result is a very low chance of secondary poisoning (secondary poisoning being when a predator eats a rodent that ate the bait). However, this also means that it often doesn't kill all the rodents either. You may also want to consider Fasttrac, it is a true "no secondary kill" product and kills rats after only a single dose. It also has a lower toxicity than other products if non-rodents eat the bait directly. I sell both. JT Eaton blocks are popular for the cheapest option. Fastrac is the most effective and safest. I hope this helps. Let me know if I can be of more help. I have over 20 years of pest management experience. JoeEntomologistePestHero |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this t j eaton 166004 709 pn legal in fresno california |
Answer: | The rats remove the cartridge, take a few bites, then put it back. That's why the clips are rat friendly... Their other option is to go in the hole on the side. |
Question: | Does it work on chipmunks and red squirrels |
Answer: | A Cat should not be able to get inside the Station, however, the Poison will be scattered Inside and Outside of the Station. Ensure the Station and the Poison is Not accessible from any of your Pets - Dogs, Cats, Birds, etc... |
Question: | Does the bait stop the mouse from stinking after dying |
Answer: | You do not have a lifetime supply of bait unless you only plan on living a few years. All drugs have shelf lives. Buy small amounts only as needed and try to establish how old the product is before you buy it. In AZ the packrats will carry away your baits (if you are foolish enough to all it) and stash them in middens (usually out of sight and mixed in with nasty bits of cholla cactus) where they will remain for years until they are safe to eat by future generations of packrats. Frequently Asked Questions
Q: My Pet Ate RatX. What Should I do?
A: Our product is completely poison free, making it safe for use around all people, pets, and wildlife. It is only lethal to rats, mice, and voles, as the product targets a unique characteristic within their digestive tract. Do not induce vomiting. Simply make sure that the dog has access to plenty of fresh water.
Q: Why Does RatX Kill Rodents - Rats & Mice - and Not Harm Humans and Other Animals?
A: Because all rodents have a digestive system that is different from other animals. The way rodents absorb water through their lower gut is quite different to any other animals, including humans and birds. This unique digestive system is a part of what makes a rodent different from other animals.
Q: Is RatX Harmful to Wildlife?
A: No, RatX is safe for all wildlife. RatX is also safe for birds of prey as there is no risk of secondary kill.
Introduce RatX
Use RatX as instructed in areas where rats are an issue. The rat gets used to it. They trust it. And then, they eat it.
Dehydration
RatX blocks the hair-like receptors in the rats digestive system. These receptors tell them they're thirsty. So once they're blocked by RatX, the rat no longer has the desire to drink.
Kidney Failure
The dehydrated mouse is mummified from the inside out, so it never smells.
- Ideal for your: attic, kitchen/pantry, basement, bedrooms, bathrooms, living room, laundry room, garage and shed.
- d-Con bait is so tasty that mice will risk their lives for it which helps reduce house mice problems
- This bait may be considered safer because it contains no neurotoxins or anti-coagulants.
- This is our newest bait station, and is resistant to tampering by children & dogs.
- Can be used indoors only.

User questions & answers
Question: | frankly I have loaded the trap but just can't see how the rat is supposed to get to the bait. How does the rat get to the bait |
Answer: | The rats remove the cartridge, take a few bites, then put it back. That's why the clips are rat friendly... Their other option is to go in the hole on the side. |
Question: | Will cats be able to get in this trap |
Answer: | A Cat should not be able to get inside the Station, however, the Poison will be scattered Inside and Outside of the Station. Ensure the Station and the Poison is Not accessible from any of your Pets - Dogs, Cats, Birds, etc... |
Question: | does this come with bait |
Answer: | You do not have a lifetime supply of bait unless you only plan on living a few years. All drugs have shelf lives. Buy small amounts only as needed and try to establish how old the product is before you buy it. In AZ the packrats will carry away your baits (if you are foolish enough to all it) and stash them in middens (usually out of sight and mixed in with nasty bits of cholla cactus) where they will remain for years until they are safe to eat by future generations of packrats. Do not underestimate your enemy ;) |
