Question:	My entire home is equipped with BRK smoke detector (4120 B) and Carbon Monox Det (CO50120B). They need replacing. Will new BRK fit extant casings
Answer:	Yes all the wired Nest Protect needs is the 120V hot (black) and neutral (white) wires in the electrical box connected to the plug-in pigtail that comes with the Protect. If your house has multiple detectors now you will usually also find a red wire in the electrical box that interconnects your old detectors so that if one goes off they all sound. That wire is no longer needed with the Protect so you just cap it with a wire nut.
Question:	can these be connected together so if one is set off they all go off
Answer:	Yes, but only if you are connected to the internet and then only for the last ten days, and only if the level rises above the heads up level (which is 70ppm and rising for around an hour or a shorter period if over 150ppm). To counter what someone else's answer was - Carbon monoxide does NOT sink. It is in fact lighter than air (CO has an atomic weight of 28 versus Nitrogen (N2) which is also 28 - but marginally heavier (by 0.003 amu due to heavier isotopes), Oxygen (O2) which is 32 and Argon which is 40. However the weight is similar enough in the air in your house that it tends to distribute as a fluid and is measurable anywhere in a room; it really depends upon how air moves through the space. The levels tend to fluctuate rapidly as CO distributes and any outside air mixes in and additional CO is added. Overall, there is no perfect way to measure the CO levels with one device in one place, but this is as good as most people need.
Question:	How does the Alarm Latch feature "easily identify initiating alarm"? This is major problem with false alarms on my existing Kidde/Firex dual alarms
Answer:	I just checked this for you. I unplugged my wifi router and started a test. All detectors alarmed as expected. So, yes, the system works even without active wifi.
Question:	Can a BRK Model 92120B smoke detector directly plug in and replace an old BRK Model 4120B smoke detector (without an adapter
Answer:	I think very few here understand the question. National code requires interconnected smoke detectors as of 2004, there is an extra wire in the circuit and all smoke detectors are on that wire for 'signal'. When one alarms they should ALL alarm. If I am reading the answers correctly, NEST does not comply with the signal wire. However, it looks like it does set up its own wireless network to act like they are all interconnected. To be honest, after paying for the extra wire behind the wall, why would I want to by 6-8 nests at $100 each when the originals are 20-30 each? This way there is one smart point to notify if any detector is going off. Nests way 6-9 smoke detectors, 6-8 login, 6-8 ip address. Ugh, what a nightmare!

Answer:	No they do not and I have one pretty much over the stove. Most detectors don't go off around the kitchen area unless it detects a large amount of smoke.

Answer:	I do not know the answer, however FYI, I replaced all of my smoke detectors with these because of the 10 yr warranty. I have 12 foot ceilings & had to have a friend install them. I used 9. Within 24 hrs, 3 of them were chirpoing & another 3 a few hours later. I ended up replacing them all. Check the expiration dates before using. I won't purchase them again.

Kidde CO alarms include the most accurate sensing technology available, the patented Nighthawk electrochemical sensor. This alarm can be mounted three ways: plug directly into AC receptacle, mount on tabletop using 8 foot power cord, or wall-mount. The digital readout continuously displays carbon monoxide levels from 30-999 parts per million. This unit has a loud, 85-decibel alarm that sounds when CO reaches dangerous levels. One of the features of this product is peak level memory, which means this unit will recall highest level of CO present since previous reset. Install at least one CO alarm on every floor and in sleeping areas. Make sure CO alarms are at least 15 feet away from cooking or heating appliances to prevent false alarms. Question:	Can hardwired work to other hardwired
Answer:	Yes! I just replaced mine and the 12040 is a plug-n-play replacement for the 1275. No changing of electrical or base (if you don't want to.) I changed a couple of bases because of discoloring, however, it didn't need to be done. Very happy with the product.
Question:	Can this smoke detector be used in an unheated garage? We live in an area where it gets below zero at times in the winter
Answer:	The Kidde i12040 units are "perfect" replacement units (same interface and can swap out) for our previous Kidde 1275 units. I didn't have to change the short electric connector or the ceiling mounting plate. I installed them in early November 2014, and so far all are functioning fine. I replaced four of our six units. When I tested the new detectors, all units -- both the older ones and the new ones -- triggered and alarmed properly. I did replace the mounting units because the old ones were fading... if yours are still in good condition, you don't have to change them. The new plates are identical, and can be installed in the exact same position as the existing plates, and using the existing screws without re-positioning them.Hope this helps. Question:	How to make the order since i need the installation of three kidde ac hardwired wireless interconnect smoke alarms in my house on different floors
Answer:	Hello. We here at Kidde are not sure what they are talking about with Generation 1 and Generation 2. We did upgrade our model about 10 years ago from the I12060 to the I12060A. A low battery hush feature was added where if you pushed the test button while it was chirping for low battery, it would stop chirping for low battery for 10 hours. Also there were minor changes in how the red LED indicators indicated alarm memory mode and HUSH mode to save on the battery. The boxes for the alarms and descriptions online will still say I12060 but you are nearly guaranteed to get the I12060A in the box. This AC-wire with battery backup alarm emits a beeping tone followed by a voice warning that clearly announces the danger by saying, “Fire, Fire” or “Warning, Carbon Monoxide. ” The uniquely designed front loading battery compartment makes battery replacement quick and easy, and ensures proper installation. Manufactured with photoelectric sensors for detecting smoke and fire, this alarm also includes the world’s most accurate CO sensing technology based on claims by major manufacturers. Architectural and Engineering Specifications - The combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarm shall be Kidde Unit Number KN-COPE-I (part number 900-0213) or approved equal. Answer:	The rf-sm-ac is the hard wired model with battery backup, the rf-sm-dc is the battery powered unit which is not hard wired.

Answer:	Awwwww, well, I'm not and expert however, I did replace 2 of my detectors with this unit and I did have to change out the plugs.....BUT it was so simple, and they give you everything you need to do so. Question:	Will this co alarm expire in 5-7 years like most other co alarms
Answer:	It will last 10 years according to the warranty and user manual. Ten years after initial power-up, this unit will “chirp” twice every 30 seconds to indicate that it is time to replace the alarm. A label has been provided on the side of the alarm that has “Replace by” printed on it. Write the replace by date on the label. The date written on the label should be ten (10) years after the alarm was initially powered. This alarm does have end of life Hush® which allows you to silence the trouble chirp for two days giving you extra time to replace the unit when it is more convenient. To activate, press the test/reset button. While in the End of Life Hush® mode, will still detect CO and Smoke. This feature can only be used for 30 days from the time the unit first indicates end of life. At the end of the 30 day period the alarm cannot be hushed and must be replaced immediately.

Answer:	I'm fairly sure you can. They even offer adapters that allowed them to replace my old Firex wired-in detectors.
Question:	We have these in a 165 room hotel. They are not lasting. I have had to replace 6 and need another 6 today. What recourse do we have
Answer:	Welcome to the club, I have been having the same problem only on a much smaller scale. Try contacting Kidde and see what they say, however if you read the installation instructions that come with each unit it states they only last 7 - 10 years before having to be replaced. I believe that is from the date of manufacture (the units are marked) and not the install date. The units I replaced are right at the low end of the replacement dates. Good luck.
