Answer:	it moves quite a lot of air. if you put it at the bottom of a staircase and have a door open, i could see it doing that. the problem is then the draw, where is the air coming down into the basement from that will replace the air you are moving up? if it's from the same staircase then I could just see a loop.

Answer:	I've used this fan for small areas of dampness from an AC drain line backup, and it works well for that. But, for a larger plumbing leak, this fan would be inadequate. Answer:	Yes, you can. There are two hot wires going to the fan - black and blue. And one common wire - white. Wire the black and white to the fan switch. Wire the blue and white to the light switch. So you'll need a 12-3 cable (2 hots, one common, one bare copper ground). Disclaimer: I'm not an electrician, but I do all my own electrical, took home wiring as an elective in high school, and recently smoked a receptacle because I miswired it.
