12 best condensation pumps

Condensation pumps are devices used in HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) systems and other applications to remove condensate water that accumulates as a result of the cooling or heating process. They are categorized under Power Water Pumps, Water Pumps Parts Accessories, Rough Plumbing, and Tools Home Improvement. Here's what you need to know about condensation pumps:

  1. Purpose and Function: Condensation pumps are designed to efficiently remove condensed water produced by HVAC systems, dehumidifiers, and other equipment. This prevents water damage and helps maintain proper humidity levels in indoor spaces.

  2. HVAC System Application: In HVAC systems, condensation is a natural byproduct of the cooling process. When warm air is cooled, moisture in the air condenses into water droplets. Condensation pumps are commonly used in air conditioning units and furnaces to collect and pump this water away.

  3. Components:

    • Reservoir: Condensation pumps typically have a reservoir or basin that collects the condensed water.
    • Float Switch: A float switch is used to detect the water level in the reservoir. When the water level rises to a certain point, the float switch activates the pump.
    • Pump: The pump is responsible for moving the collected water from the reservoir to an appropriate drainage point.
    • Drainage Pipe: The pump is connected to a drainage pipe or hose, which directs the water to a suitable location for disposal, such as a drain or outside.
  4. Operation: When the float switch detects a sufficient amount of water in the reservoir, it triggers the pump to start. The pump then forces the water through the drainage pipe to a designated exit point, preventing water buildup in the HVAC system or other equipment.

  5. Installation: Condensation pumps are typically installed in the vicinity of the HVAC unit or other equipment generating condensate. Proper installation ensures efficient removal of water and minimizes the risk of leaks or overflows.

  6. Maintenance: Regular maintenance, such as cleaning the reservoir and checking for clogs in the drainage pipe, is essential to keep the condensation pump functioning correctly. Neglecting maintenance can lead to pump failure or water damage.

  7. Versatility: While commonly used in HVAC systems, condensation pumps can also be employed in various other applications where condensate water needs to be removed, such as dehumidifiers, refrigeration units, and some industrial processes.

  8. Benefits: Condensation pumps help prevent water damage to buildings and equipment by efficiently removing excess moisture. They also contribute to maintaining comfortable indoor air quality and humidity levels.

In summary, condensation pumps are crucial components in HVAC systems and other applications where condensate water needs to be managed. They ensure the safe and efficient removal of water, helping to maintain the integrity of equipment and prevent water-related issues in buildings.

User questions & answers

Question: Does this pump have a safety switch
Answer: Yes, Andrew Bauer covered it well. However, you must regularly maintain the pump according to the manufacturer's instructions, or the safety switch won't work when needed. I didn't know about the maintenance requirement (thanks, installers), so my 18 year old old pump didn't stop the A/C and I ended up with water all over the place. The one time in 18 years I needed the safety switch and it didn't work! Just make sure you put pump maintenance on your calendar.
Question: All these pumps use 3/8" tubing. I have a 40' run (3.5' max lift). I think PVC would be easier to keep the drain line straight (no sags). Thoughts
Answer: A 40' run is a long way, but since your rise is only 3 1/2', that should not be a problem. I'm not a pro, but I expect the pump to work fine as long as you adhere to the 3/8" diameter.
Question: I want to connect this to our dehumidifier and drain out to the utility sink about 15 feet away. Can it go horizontal first then up? (about 3 feet
Answer: Absolutely, yes. The total "head" of your installation is only 3 feet, which is much less than the rated 15-20 feet. Should have no problem.
Question: Does it come with a built in check valve
Answer: Mine at times just stays running, check valve works. I have taken it apart and cleaned it still randomly stays running, have to pull out power cord then it works

User questions & answers

Question: I need a pump for my air bearing tone arm, does anyone know the output psi
Answer: This is basically a transfer pump that won't develope higher pressure if you are concerned about psi.
Question: If i plug it in so i still need to wire it for it to work
Answer: Nope, no more wiring will be needed. All you will need to do is ensure the water line from the A/C is in place, and the output hose is in place. It will work just fine at that point. I actually have a hose from a dehumidifier into it, as well as the line from the A/C, and it works perfectly for me.
Question: Do you know if this pump is 1.5 A 1 Phase
Answer: Hello, Yes, it is 1.5 Amps FLA and 1 Phase. Thank you, PartsZone Supply
Question: can the sensor be purchased separately
Answer: I would expect that since this unit works so well, three years for me, that it would be better to replace the entire unit rather than try to replace a sensor.

User questions & answers

Question: Que tan ruidosa es la bomba
Answer: Es muy silenciosa
Question: Is the 3/8" discharge tubing included
Answer: This discharge tubing is NOT included. However, it is a standardized part that can be easily obtained at your local hardware store. My tubing connected straight up with no thoughts coming from me. Great device!
Question: Can I wire it direct
Answer: It comes with a 3 prong plug but I guess if you want to cut it off and wire it in a box you could .
Question: Does this device have the effect of actually drying the outgoing air or does it only pump out condensation
Answer: This device takes the condensate from your HVAC device, coming from a drip pan, and pumps this condensate (water) out. This condensate can then be routed to a sink at a higher elevation. The outgoing air is dried out a bit, but the effect is secondary to its operation.

User questions & answers

Question: What is the height from the bottom to the inlet openings
Answer: 1- 3/4"
Question: I have portable a/c with drain plug 1 1/2 inches above floor. will this pump work without raising the a/c higher off the floor
Answer: I faced this very same issue when we got our portable A/C unit. I solved it by placing the A/C unit on small pieces of 2x4 blocks. This added height also is helpful when the carpet is being vac'd. The hoover can get under the A/C a bit more. Also I have placed the pump unit in a cheap metal cake pan. If any water leaks for any reason, this cake pan is cheap insurance.
Question: Do I have to hook up the safety switch? I already have a wet switch otherwise wired
Answer: It's two wires coming out of the unit that when submerged shut the unit off, there is nothing to hook up.
Question: Does anyone know the height of the water (depth I guess) that will turn on and off the automatic pump? Looks like say an inch to half an inch
Answer: Measured my unit: On at 1 inch. OFF at 1/2 inch. Pump motor is very quiet & moves the water!

User questions & answers

Question: Has anyone pulled one of these open to see what the motor shaft/impeller connnection is like ? i'm replacing a beckett cu-14-1 that had a press fit
Answer: I pried the pump off the motor shaft. It is just a friction fit. The pump and check valve are an integral unit, so that the check valve is difficult to clean and is NOT replaceable. I devised a method with a garden hose to squirt hot water through the pump and out the check valve. My unit is 18 years old. I will put vinegar in the unit for over the Winter (or completely empty it) in the future.
Question: Will this pump water up 8' to the ceiling area and then 40' across to a drain
Answer: Ours travels about 8' up and then about 20' across to drain outdoors. I'll bet 40' would work fine, but I haven't tried it.
Question: Where is this pump manufactured
Answer: I believe the pump was manufactured by the Beckett Corporation in Irving, Texas. You can verify this by either calling them at 1-888-232-5388 or sending them an email at www.beckettpumps.com.PG
Question: Does this model have a safety shut-off switch included? Description does not say, and picture does not show one
Answer: Yes, it does - a two-wire ("pig tail" type) connection. Apparently not shown in the picture.

User questions & answers

Question: does the pump have automatic re-start in the event of a power outage
Answer: Yes. This is how it works. There are two float switches inside the tank. One controls the pump by floating up as the water level rises. When it reaches the end of its travel it completes an electrical circuit and the pump turns on to empty the tank. If the pump does not activate for whatever reason the second float switch will complete its travel as the water continues to rise and then disconnect a relay switch which is connected to the wires that will need to be spliced into the power cord of whatever device you are running(ac or dehumidifier). This relay switch interrupts the power to the device (such as a dehumidifier or ac unit). That being said if the device(dehumidifier or ac)does not have a feature allowing it turn back on automatically after power loss then it will remain off until you physically turn it back on. So as long as the ac or dehumidifier or whatever you're running can turn back on by itself once it gets power again then yes it will turn back on. If not then I don't think any of the condensation pumps will work for you as they all seem to operate basically the same way.
Question: Would this work to pump the water out from the dehumidifier
Answer: Yes that’s what I bought mine for.
Question: If parts are needed for this item are they available
Answer: Yes, Replacement Parts are Available
Question: Can this be used in a basement and pup up 6 plus feet and out a window from a dehumidifier? do you just put it inside the dehumidifier tank
Answer: That's just what it is used for and you don't put it inside the tank as that would ruin the pump. Just run your discharge hose directly from the dehumidifier into the pump unit and it will automatically pump from their as it fills

Product features

Utility Pumps

Utility pumps are used to transfer water from one source to another or to drain water from surfaces. Many of them are designed to drain water as close as 1/8" from the surface. Water being transferred may have some solids in the water, but they cannot be larger than 1/8'. They are typically used for draining water from sinks or tubs with clogged drains, emptying pools or spas, draining excess water on flooded basement floors, etc.

Utility pumps are either portable or submersible. Portable means they are designed to operate outside the water with a hose placed in the water. Submersible means they are designed to be submersed in water. Submersible pumps can be provided with no on/off switch, which means they are manually operated or have a 'smart' switch that will detect the absence of water and will therefore shut off the pump automatically.

Since most utility pumps are made of plastic and rubber components, running them dry (running them without water circulating in them), will result in the pump overheating and melting the plastic and rubber components. As a result, it is required that you physically monitor pumps provided without switches so you can unplug them when the task is complete.

  • Stainless steel shaft
  • 6 ft. power cord with 3-prong molded plug
  • Integral float-activated switch and thermal overload protection

User questions & answers

Question: Can this pump recirculate water from one location to another
Answer: This pump isn't designed to recirculate. It utilizes a float switch, thus it's designed to empty a shallow reservoir and shut off. It's certainly capable of recirculating in the right conditions, but remember it's only rated at 205 GPH- not powerful by any standards.
Question: how hight can Lyft en feet
Answer: The specs say 10 feet, but at that height the pressure is minimal. Better at 8’ even better at 5.
Question: what is the minimum water depth it will pump down to
Answer: About 1/4". I've used mine since early summer, and it comes on every day at least once. It pumps 5 gallons of water in NO time.
Question: what is the mimimum water depth this pump has to sit in? Can it sit dry and still work
Answer: It can sit dry forever, so if your condensate pan evaporates, no problem. It triggers “on” at about 1” depth, and “off” at about 1 1/2” depth. I’ve had two of them for over 20 years and they still work fine. Use a check valve if you’re pumping to any height otherwise the water runs back on shutoff so the pump has to run much more often.

User questions & answers

Question: Does this pump have a 1" hole and a 3/4 ' hole
Answer: It has 4 (1") holes in each corner and you can easily fit a 3/4 pipe.
Question: Hello all Can you mount this unit on the side of the furnace
Answer: You could but I would not recommend that. If you need to mount it off the floor then I would recommend a wall. 9 times out of 10 it's on the floor.
Question: I have a need to pump condensation straight up about 10ft before it makes a 90 degree turn to a drain. Will this pump handle it
Answer: It works for us. We have condensation removed from our combo water heater and it in the basement. I'm not 100% sure if it is 10 foot, but it is at least 9 foot, with two 90 degree bends. Our drain comes off the combo heater about 4 feet above the floor, where the Diversitech pump is located and then the outlet pipe goes up about 9 feet and then up through the ceiling and out to the exterior. 'If' we did have a pressure head problem, then I would raise the pump ABOVE the floor and put it on a small table or shelf 2 or three feet above. {Future tip ....It works...... except after 10 or so years when it fails you will find a puddle after the reservoir fills up. I suggest that you put it in a container. Hope this helps?
Question: I only need the floatless sensor for a clearvue mini pump.......can this be purchased separately
Answer: I am just a customer of this company. However, I doubt that you could buy just the float and even then I doubt it would easily fit some other pump. There are other float sensors sold on Amazon that could be adapted with some effort (I have done this with other pump situations but takes a fair amount of electrical/electronic knowledge). I understand the want for a floatless sensor since these condensate pumps get gunked up (although the motors of cheap pumps fail before the sensor). I have replaced a couple of OEM pumps with this unit. It's more expensive but worth the cost since it is excellent. If you have AC and a high efficiency gas furnace, your condensate pump runs 7x24 12 months a year. When a pump fails, you can have a super mess and water damage if they did not install the cutoff sw properly (rare and never tested). This is particularly critical where the HVAC unit is in the attic! I have two friends who didn't know that their pump failed until they had water damage. This pump does not depend on the external overflow sw, and has it's own which can sound an alarm.

Product features

This new pump can provide up to 22ft of lift if needed. ClearVue runs at the minimum speed needed, saving wear on the pump. The pump selects the lowest effective speed, making it quieter than a regular pump. Its unique self-cleaning feature senses problems and automatically enters a self-cleaning mode using condensate water to fix the issue. The ClearVue pump features a clear bottom tank to easily check the water level. Other features include: stainless steel mounting tabs, silicone rubber feet, reversible deck, four inlet holes, and LED indicator lights. ETL Listed File Number 3190890.
