11 best sump pump drys
Product description
The Hi & Dry Water Powered Backup Sump Pump (HB-1000) provides unbeatable reliability and performance! The reliability of your primary sump pump is important but it is absolutely critical for the backup sump pump, which is your "last line of defense" against basement flooding. This simple and elegant design requires no batteries or electricity. During a heavy rainstorm or snow melt, you do not have to worry about a power outage or sump pump failure, or about the battery on a battery-powered back-up sump pump. When called upon, the water-powered backup pump can run infinitely, as long as municipal water is available – not limited by a battery charge. This pump requires no cleaning or maintenance. There is no impeller or motor – no rotating parts to break or wear off. It is constructed of heavy duty, corrosion-resistant materials for practically unlimited longevity. How does it work? Works on a well-proven and reliable principle - Pressurized municipal water pushes through the pump (Venturi nozzle) and as it speeds up, its pressure drops. This creates suction. The sump pump ("ejector") draws water from the sump pit by suction just like through a giant soda straw. The operation is fully automatic – it works whether you are home or away. The backup pump has its own float switch, which activates the pump when water level in the sump pit rises too high – above the level normally allowed by the primary sump pump. This simultaneously activates an audible high water alarm to let you know that there is something wrong with the primary pump or the power supply. City water pressure: Required 40 to 100 psi at the pump. Type of piping: Install using copper or plastic piping approved in your area. Connecting pipe sizes: HB-1000 ... ¾". Flow restrictions: The pump must be “teed in” before any devices that reduce flow, such as a water softener, filter, or pressure regulator valves (PRV).
- No electricity or batteries needed!
- Can run infinitely, as long as municipal water is available
- No cleaning or maintenance. No moving parts.
- Fully automatic!
- Mounted high and dry on the ceiling
User questions & answers
Question: | what is the capacity gallons per hour |
Answer: | At 90 psi municipal water pressure, the pumps use only 1 gallon of city water to remove 2 gallons of sump water - twice as efficient as similar pumps. More detailed information about the Hi & Dry line of water-powered sump pumps can be found by visiting the RadonSeal.com website. |
Question: | How much city water is used for each gallon of water evacuated from the sump |
Answer: | I have several window units and this is my quietest. I measured using db meter on my phone: 65dB on low fan speed and 70dB on high. By contrast, my Kenmore 5000btu unit that is 3-4 years old runs 75dB on low fan speed. |
Question: | Db rating |
Answer: | If you leave it running constantly. |
Question: | Is this big enough for living room |
Answer: | Make sure that the filter is reset. Where it says mode use that to change it from Fan to AC. |
Question: | I just bought mine on the 25th of last month and now it’s just a fan the ac doesn’t kick in anymore just fan air what can I do |
Answer: | Yeah, it is called capacitors. |
Question: | There seems to be no surge of watts when the A/c kicks in, it just draws 470w or less than 4 amps amazing? Does it have some magical component |
Answer: | I just measured from INSIDE my room - it is almost exactly 11.5 inches x 16 inchesThis is the smallest 5000 BTU window mounted AC unit available - it gets my room FRIGID cold (kind of ironic its made by Frigidaire). |

User questions & answers
Question: | Does this pump have to be in a sump or can it sit on a basement floor |
Answer: | Hi, no, this model that's not have a check valve, regards - Oscar PREMIUMPUMPSUSA |
Question: | this pump died |
Answer: | Hello, I do not see these specifications in the manual. The only thing I read concerning temperatures was to clean and store unit during frost conditions. I live in FL, so frost is not a real concern for me. As I mentioned in my review, the manual is not very good. |
Question: | How low does it pump before it shuts off. Can you turn the water sensor off |
Answer: | Hi! Yes, Palestine is labeled. |
Question: | Would it fit inside an 8” pvc pipe? (vertical pipe with the pump on the bottom). it would be under ground (inside the pvc pipe) about 15 feet |
Answer: | Hi there, we've been using a cotton/polyester blend for the last few years, but actually just switched to a 100% polyester variety because of how well it has been performing for us! So as we transition into this new material you may receive one or the other, but if you're reading this more than a few weeks later you will likely get a poly version. |

User questions & answers
Question: | i have a 4 ft lift . does this pump have enough lift .my outlet hose is 8 feet long |
Answer: | The Johnson shower pump is not a bilge pump, but like any pump handling gray water requires periodic maintenance that includes cleaning. This pump has a label on the lid that notifies the owner to maintain their shower sump pump. I have six Johnson Pumps and all are working, but I carry replaceable cartridges and floats to handle any problems. I maintain boats and have found Johnson pumps to be very reliable and preferable to some of the Rule or Gusher alternatives. |
Question: | Why buy a Johnson pump? I have had three pumps made by this company. All three failed and it almost sunk my boat |
Answer: | Currently installed works well Lifts shower water three feet out of our boat No issues at all |
Question: | What kind of lift does this pump have |
Answer: | My pit is 24” deep and the inlet is about 17” down into the pit. The float is adjustable. There are two rubber grommets, one above and one below the grey float. As for the inlet it’s threaded onto a fitting on the bottom of the pvc. You might be able to cut the pvc and glue on additonal pvc to extend it. I’m not sure if this would compromise its ability to lift water out or not? |
Question: | Is the height of the inlet and float adjustable/extendable? My sump pit is pretty deep |
Answer: | I had trouble trying to connect with 5G. So connected via 4G. First try and it worked! |
Question: | Does the Nighteye work with 5 GHz wi-fi |
Answer: | The volume of sump water drawn into the ejector depends on the city water pressure. The higher the water pressure, the higher the pumping rate. The higher the needed "lift" from the bottom of the sump pit, the lower the pumping rate (will not decrease dramatically up to a 15-ft. lift). Water Pressure: 40-100 (psi)/Sump Water Removed: 900-1,4000 (GPH). Detailed pumping rates for all water-pump models can be found on the RadonSeal.com website. |

User questions & answers
Question: | can I use this with RO water |
Answer: | Hi Wayne,The thermoplastic pump will work better in this application than a cast iron one. There is an aluminum motor plate that is exposed and this could oxidize in an RO environment. We do not recommend our pumps to be used for these. Thanks |
Question: | Can this be used as a utility pump |
Answer: | Sure It's more powerful than a standard utility pump and would require an adapter to neck it down from 1-1/2/1-1/4" to 3 /4" garden hose thread but it will work provided there isn't much of sand in the water should only be used with clear water and would have to manually activate float switch by hand if the water is not deep enough to activate float In addition, this pump will only pickup water approximately 1" off floor whereas a utility pump can typically pickup down to 1 /4" , or le ss, off floor This pump should not be fun dry - water must be in intake at all times when running |
Question: | What size basin will this fit in |
Answer: | If you secure it so that vibration does not move it around, it should work fine in a 12" diameter basin. I have it in a larger one (15"). If the float touches the side, you are obviously in trouble. |
Question: | Title says "with vertical float switch" while the description says "can be used as a sump pump by adding an optional float switch". Which is it |
Answer: | It was confusing to me as well. However my purchase had the vertical float in the box. I had to attach it though. No big task |

This water powered backup sump pump, including battery powered high water ALARM, is mounted on the ceiling above the sump, not in the sump itself, keeping it clean and dry until needed. Uses water pressure from your home water supply to pump water from your sump! High quality, durable materials and a completely hydraulic float and valve system for reliable, long-lasting operation. Suitable for use with Radon covers. Reliable Back Up Sump Pump for most homes. Fact is: a back-up sump pump is needed in every home. You must supply the water pipe and fittings to supply water to the pump as well as 1" PVC pipe for the suction from the bottom of the sump to the pump on the ceiling. Make sure you can fill a 5 gallon bucket at your outside hose spigot, without the hose, in less than 40 seconds for this pump so you know you have enough water flow to feed it properly. When testing your water supply, if you have a water softener, filter, or frost-proof spigot, the test will be inaccurate. Please call 800 554 1426 before ordering if you have any questions. Additionally, you may see that Amazon offers installation for what appears to be a reasonable price. Keep in mind that a basic installation is about a three hour job in most cases so consider that accordingly when obtaining bids from contractors.
- Extremely reliable, very powerful, water powered backup sump pump system
- No battery to wear out or maintain; no charger to plug in or monitor.
- Includes battery powered high water ALARM
- Works with Radon Sealed systems.
- Mounted on the ceiling, high above the sump, clean and dry.
User questions & answers
Question: | I have 2 sumps. Thoughts on having battery and water backups? One for primary other for secondary pump |
Answer: | They recommend a 3/4" size water line but you can make a 1/2" size work. It just won't remove a much water. There is a 2-1 ratio for water removal. 2 gallons out for 1 gallon in. |
Question: | water line intake size |
Answer: | Actually no water is "wasted" in this process. During a rainstorm, which is when this type of situation often occurs, water falls from the sky and drops to the ground where it returns to its source by nature. This system uses the force of the city/county water pressure to remove water from the sump and direct it outdoors, where it returns to nature as water once again. It is not changed into garbage or oil or anything but water. And during that process, it keeps your basement dry and prevents you from putting your basement items to the curb and into a landfill, which would be far worse. |
Question: | May be a stupid question... but is the county water thrown out with the sump water? As in... is it being wasted, or is it being directed to the house |
Answer: | Yes, but I opted to not do that, just in case the main pump failure was caused by an external obstruction. I also ran the suction pipe separate from the primary so no matter what part of the primary system fails I have a backup. |
Question: | Can the output pvc be tied into existing output of the main pump |
Answer: | Hi, this is not a pump rated for continous use, so you should be able to run it for 4 or 5 hours straight and then leave it rest for about hald hour, kind regards - Oscar PREMIUMPUMPSUSA |

User questions & answers
Question: | can i use this pump with 2" pvc |
Answer: | Yes! ... ok, well probably. It depends on the design of your septic system. Most septic systems have a settling tank. This collects and stores raw sewage. The raw sewage starts decompose in the settling tank(s) and separates into the 3 components: 1) Scum - the fats, oils, etc. that float, 2) Sludge - the solid particle that sink to the bottom, and 3) Effluent - a liquid that is mostly water. The outflow from the settling tank is about mid-height ... high enough that it is (hopefully) above the sludge, but low enough so it below the scum. In other words, for all intents and purposes, what flows out of the settling tank's outlet is "pure" effluent. In gravity systems, the effluent usually empties directly into the drainfield. If the drainfield is uphill, the effluent could empty into a pump chamber, and is then pumped it into the drainfield. Sometime, due to the terrain, even the settling tanks are uphill. In this case, the raw sewage must be pumped uphill. Raw sewage is mix of solids (human waste, toilet paper, food particles, etc.) and water. If your pump chamber is BEFORE your settling tank, you will need a SEWAGE pump. If it is AFTER your settling tanks, you'll want an EFFLUENT pump. Liberty markets this pump as a "effluent pump" so it is safe to use if your pump chamber is after you settling tank(s). Please note that just because it is safe to use in your system, does not mean that it will work for your system. Not all 1/2 HP pumps are created equal. Some pump slow, but provide really good pressure. Other pump fast, but don't have good pressure. I think this should be a good pump, so long as you hill is not too high. It does have more pressure than most 1/2 HP effluent pumps and even when it is producing good pressure, the flowrates, although slow, should be good enough for most residential uses. |
Question: | Is this a reasonable pump, for my septic system, to my slightly up hill drain field |
Answer: | The quick disconnect power cord refers to a waterproof connector/fitting at the end of the electrical cord at the top of the motor/pump assembly. This allows the cordset to be replaced without breaking seals to the motor housing. This is important for 2 reasons: first to prevent water intrusion due to a damaged or improperly re installed seal and second to ensure the cooling oil (the motor is immersed in cooling oil) doesn't leak out. |
Question: | what is quick disconnect power connector? does it stay below water line |
Answer: | No, you will need to install a check valve in the discharge line; something like ASIN:B000LXA9O8 Campbell Mfg Llc 1.5" Quietsump Chk Valve B-0823-15C. If you do a google search for Liberty Pumps 287, you will find the liberty pumps website and you can review the engineering specifications as well as installation instructions in PDF format. The installation instructions are printed and included with the pump. |
Question: | Does this pump have a built in anti siphon valve |
Answer: | That depends how your pumps are setup. I'm assuming your 2nd sump pump will not come on normally as it is a backup to the primary pump? Or are they 2 separate sumps and 2 pumps come on separately? |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is there a THREADED inlet to this pump or just an opening on the bottom |
Answer: | It does not have a threaded inlet, just a protected opening on the bottom. Only the outlet is threaded. |
Question: | Shut off 23‘ vertically? if not vertically horizontal lay out the pipe will work |
Answer: | The model 98 can pump to a max height of 23 feet. If you attach 23 ft of pipe vertically to the pump, you will only get a few gallons per minute of flow. See the pump curve picture on the Zoeller site to see how head height affects flow. https://www.zoellerpumps.com/en-us/products/sump-effluent-pumps/residential/model-98 |
Question: | Do I need create a 'well or hole' in my garage to install this pump or Can it sit on the floor surface and function? I had spring flooding last year with about 4" water in my garage - looks possible again this year |
Answer: | Sorry to say but yes a hole or sump pit is necessary. The motor needs to be under water if it runs very long in order to have the motor cooled. Also the pump will only pump the water level down to about 3 or 4 inches before it sucks air or the float switch turns off. I dont know of any pumps that will do what you want it to do without a sump hole. I have a 50 gallon plastic drum buried in the floor of my basement to act as a sump. You should only need like maybe a 5 gallon bucket buried in your floor if the water just seeps in gradually. If the incoming water comes in in gushes or like a river you might want something bigger. |
Question: | Hello, Can this 1/2hp model be used with a 1.5 inch discharge pipe |
Answer: | Yep,works well great pump. 1.5 discharge is what I'm using. |
