User questions & answers
Question: | Is this for a standing pilot gas water heater, or can it be used with an electronic ignition such as a power vented water heater |
Answer: | The Watts Floodsafe can be used on gas water heaters that has a standing pilot or Pizo ignitor. Not sure if it will work on gas water heater with electronic ignition with a glow stick ignitor. |
Question: | Is this a lead free device |
Answer: | I work for a plumbing company and we tested this exact Watts Floodsafe product at the beginning of 2013. At the time, it did not indicate that the brass valve was lead-free compliant. However, as of January 4, 2014, The Reduction of Lead in Drinking Water Act (Federal Public Law 111-380) mandates that any fixture, fitting, etc. sold in the United States that comes into contact with potable water must contain less than 0.25% of lead by weight. Therefore, according to the law, manufacturers, retailers, distributors, etc. cannot sell products that do not meet the new Federal guidelines after January 4th of this year. Many companies that sell these type of products are indicating on the product, packaging, manuals, etc. that the product is lead-free compliant. Watts is a reputable company in the plumbing industry and they advertised that they started converting their inventory over to lead-free compliant products some time ago. However, I recommend checking with the company to make sure that the product is lead-free compliant. |
Question: | can this be used to shut off main water supply for the whole house |
Answer: | In theory, yes, but you would have to place it at the entrance pipeline that comes into your house. The main issue you have to face is where to place the single water sensor that comes with the unit. An ideal system would have a number of sensors that could be placed under every source of water, such as the dishwasher, clothes washer, etc. It would also be great if that system used wireless sensors and sent an alert via email to your phone. I don't know any reasonably priced system that does those things. |
Product description
This Smart Technology electric tankless water heater is configured as a "whole home" model for climates where incoming water temperature is 67°F and above. This model is well suited for heating up to 2-Gallon per minute, which is the equivalent of one shower head (with a 1.5 gpm flow) and one sink with a low inlet water temperature of 67°F and an output setting of 105°F. Digital Temperature Control allows you to set your temperature in increments of 1 Degree. This model can also be used in colder climates as a Point of Use for a sink or other low flow application. All tankless water heaters are sized based on flow rate and temperature rise, and there is a direct relationship between the two. So if used in a cold area requiring a high temperature rise, it will be more limited in the amount of fixtures (gallons per minute) it can heat at one time compared to a warmer climate. When sized properly this water heater will provide endless hot water and only consume the energy needed, giving the user complete control. Prior to purchase and installation please verify this model is the right size for the expected demand and electrical requirements. The ECO 11 requires a minimum 125 amp electrical panel for installation with 60 amp double pole breaker connected to set of #6 awg wire. Plumbing connections are 1/2" compression fitting with the option of 1/2" NPT adapter included. For additional assistance please feel free to contact our support center at 877-474-6473.
NOTE : 11Kw at 220 is equal to 13kw at 240. .Activation Flow : 0.3 GPM

User questions & answers
Question: | Ours has only been in service for less than a year - will not adjust temperature to anything above 85 Deg. F. What do you think is the problem ? kds |
Answer: | My only guess is that the rheostat (variable resistor) that the temperature adjustment knob is attached to may be faulty. If that isn't it then I don't know. Sorry. |
Question: | The warrenty says that this unit must be installed by a licensed electrician and plumber, for them to honor the "life time warrenty." why |
Answer: | Hello Bob, The reason is the same as why an innumerable number of gadgets around the world have that little "warranty void if removed" label. Because getting inside of one requires a certain level of training and expertise. Same with this unit. GadgetsGo is an authorized Ecosmart dealer. Kind regards,HenryGadgetsGo |
Question: | My house is wired 110V. What additional items do I need to purchase for the conversion |
Answer: | Just to expand slightly on prior answers, normally a residential service feed is 240 volts between the two incoming hot legs. There is also a neutral leg, which (hopefully) has zero potential with reference to ground. The voltage between either one of the hot legs and the neutral leg is 120 volts. The 120 volt circuits in your house are connected to one or the other of the two hot legs, and only one. An attempt is made to assign circuits to the two hot legs in a way that will roughly balance the load between them. The other side of a 120 volt circuit is connected to the neutral leg. There is additionally a safety ground run with the circuit, which also ties into the panel. Certain devices require more power (work product of current and voltage) than is practical to deliver using a 120 volt circuit. Common examples are your clothes dryer, and your electric stove. These devices are powered by both hot legs, with a difference in potential of 240 volts. This water heater is also such a device.STRONG BUT FRIENDLY WARNING: If you did not already know this, please don't make wiring this water heater your learning opportunity with electricity. Hire someone who knows how to do it right. Cutting corners, especially with higher currents and voltages, can lead to equipment damage, fire, and electrocution. Electricity is not magic, and you can certainly learn how to do many common wiring tasks safely on your own, but today is not the day to begin that journey. You need properly sized components, properly installed, and connected to an adequate service. Also, if you really, really foul up, you could conceivably wind up making that morning shower more energizing than you ever imagined, if you get what I mean. So newly aspiring electricians should go fix their grandmother's favorite table lamp instead. Once they have that working they can use it to to start reading books about electricity, residential wiring, and eventually, books about this stuff: http://amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_c_0_8?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=nec+code&sprefix=nec+code%2Caps%2C164 . Of course, you still have to know not to nick conductors when you strip them, and other trade craft like that ; ) . Like almost everything in life that is fun, electricity will hurt you. Sort of like all those people you dated for a while, and then wished later you had never met. |
Question: | what amp breaker is required |
Answer: | The National Electrical Code requires conductors and overcurrent protection to be sized at 100% of the manufacturer's branch circuit recommendation for tankless electric water heaters. A 60 amp breaker is the same price as a 40 or 50, it is the wire that costs more. #6 AWG wire is required for a 60 amp circuit. If you undersize the wire it could overheat and catch fire. Protect your family and follow the manufacturer's sizing for this, or any other, electrical device. Your family's lives are worth the extra money. |

3 Smart Steps for Endless Hot Water
Step 1: Determining your average inlet water temperature is important, this allows you to determine how well your unit will perform in your desired location. A lower inlet water temperature will require a higher kilowatt product.
Step 2: Next you will determine how many applications your unit can run simultaneously at your chosen location inlet water temperature. Tankless electric water heaters are sized for maximum simultaneous use, not maximum fixtures in your home.
Step 3: Determining specifications and electrical infrastructure is important because without the correct infrastructure your unit may not fit into your breaker panel.

User questions & answers
Question: | Rv parks pressure varies. have my incoming pressure set at 40psi. but when using the pump, it comes on at 35psi, & off at 60psi. is this a fit 4 us |
Answer: | May be helpful, but the pump run pressure range of 15psi is probably normal |
Question: | What is the connection size |
Answer: | The fitting connection is 3/4" NPT threads. |
Question: | if this tank comes recharged at 20 psi can I add air too it if needed? the watts I have now is recharged at 40 but is bad now |
Answer: | Yes air can be added. There is a valve stem at the bottom of the tank. As I recall, I brought the pressure up to 40 lbs. I checked out their website to see what I use for my well pump switch that runs 40 to 60 lbs. |
Question: | This tank will be used on an rv, do any of the tank suppliers offer either a wall mount or cradle type floor mount for the heavier tanks? thanks, ray |
Answer: | Hi Ray, I purchased the same expansion tank, and mounted it on my wall. The bracket I used was called Hydro Claw, by storm king. Its not cheap at about $35 to $40, but it is a well made, heavy duty bracket. Very nice looking install. Even my plumber buddies are very impressed! Highly recomend. Good luck, and stay safe. User questions & answers
Question: | Will this fit a 40gal Bradford White |
Answer: | Your best bet is to get the number off the tag and see if you can match that up on the Watts website. There are many, many types and brands of water heater and multiple models within brands. You'll be more likely to get the exact right one with the original part number. |
Question: | I can't fine the 3/4 LF100XL-DP-150 part on Watt's site, is this a typo and it should be 3/4 LF100XL-4 M7 (Watts ordering code |
Answer: | look up LF100XL-DP-TT-150 The main difference between this one and part number 0550600, is that it has a 4" probe where this has a 3" probe. |
Question: | Watts tech support told me I need order code # 0556000 - is that the same as 0958208 which is on the back of this item |
Answer: | The two part numbers are not the same. The spec is slightly different. From what I see, they told you to get the one with a 4" probe, while this one has a 3" probe. That could make a difference if your water heater has thick insulation. Otherwise the specs are pretty similar. This is the one they told you. https://www.watts.com/products/plumbing-flow-control-solutions/relief-valves/temperature-and-pressure-relief-valves/lf100xl/lf100xl-150210 This is the one from Amazon your are asking about. https://www.watts.com/products/plumbing-flow-control-solutions/relief-valves/temperature-and-pressure-relief-valves/lf100xl/dp-tt-34 Amazon does not appear to have the model number they told you, however, they do have some different brands with otherwise the same, with a 4" probe. I would suggest comparing the specs of other substitute models with those listed for what they told you. Just make absolutely certain, the temp and pressure specs match. These are a safety device that keeps your water heater from blowing up! If the one you have now seems OK but is leaking very slightly, you can sometimes clean them up. Take it out, flip the lever so it is open, then soak it in some vinegar for an hour or two, then flush it out. Usually, some deposits get caught in the valve seat so it doesn't close tightly. If it's not to scaled up, they will often clean up and seal again. If it's relieving on you frequently, you may have some other problem with the water heater. GOOD LUCK! |
Question: | My current valve is 100xl-4 m7. is this the same valve |
Answer: | yes it is. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How many amps is the pump |
Answer: | The pump runs at .22 Amps, and recommended supply current of 2.5 Amps. A standard 15 Amp wall socket is all that you need to plug it into. The .22 Amps the pump indicates maximum start up current, actual running current will be somewhat lower. Inrush current is always higher, when the motor has to start up, actual running current will be lower, example a 1 HP motor will have an inrush current of about 34 Amps, just until the motor reaching normal operating speed then it drops down to around 7.5 Amps, quite a bit lower, but the breaker needs to be able to handle the inrush currents. |
Question: | can i used without the sensor valve |
Answer: | Yes.As long as you have a return line running back to your water heater. You do not need a separate return line at every faucet. You need one return line. Follow your hot water pipe to the end (last branch takeoff), cut in a tee and run pex or copper. At the bottom of your tank style water heater there is a small, usually plastic valve. Remove that valve and screw in a 3/4" brass or stainless pipe nipple. Then install a tee inline with side outlet looking up and in the end of the tee put a brass drain valve to replace the crappy plastic one if applicable. The side connection on the tee you installed is where you will connect your return line you just ran. I did not notice if this pump had a built in check valve but if not you may want one to prevent water from flowing through both the hot water main and the hot water return to the faucet nearest the end. Water will follow the path of least resistance so the last branch on the main usually ends up being similar in distance to the water heater from either line. As a result water can back feed up the return line and will bring the cold water entering the tank with it. This is especially true when a second source of hot water is being used at the same time hence the need for a check valve. |
Question: | If the pump is on, and the water is hot, the sensor valve closes, right? Isn't the pump trying to push water against a totally closed line |
Answer: | This type of pump is designed to operate with zero flow, and it actually uses a little less electricity when it is not moving water. When the sensor valve closes, the pump does not move any water. When the sensor valve reopens, the pump moves water from the hot water line into the cold water line. |
Question: | So what this does is move the hot water through the pipes constantly, not just when you need it? Seems like an energy suck. Is it |
Answer: | If you run this all the time you will likely increase your water heating costs significantly as you are turning your pipes into a big radiant heater. You can use the built in timer to only have it come on at set periods, but this will only work if you have a very fixed schedule. I attacked this another way. I plugged the unit into a TP-Link HS110 Smart plug that is Alexa controlled. I can just say turn on hot water pump or turn off hot water pump when I want to control it. But that was not good enough for me. I found that if this pump ran for four minutes it would give me hot water at the distant shower that I wanted, so I did the following. I wrote a routine to turn on the pump, wait four minutes and then turn it off. While I can run this by voice, I bought the new Amazon Alexa Button, they are about $14 for a two pack. The button is battery operated and communicates to another Alexa device. Just before I take a shower I push the button and within four minutes the water will be hot without having to run water. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the diameter of the threaded area |
Answer: | This valve has a 3/4" NPT thread. A 3/4" NPT pipe thread has an outside diameter of 1.050 inches. Hope this information helps. |
Question: | What is the length of the temperature probe |
Answer: | Sorry, I did not measure the length of the probe. The new valve was the exact same make and model of the leaking valve I replaced. My water heater is a 50 gallon unit, the length of the probe would not have been an issue. The valve was a bargain compared to other sources. |
Question: | My oem watts 100xl says it's a 8 inch probe...... haven't removed it yet to verify, but is this that long |
Answer: | It is an exact 100xl oem replacement. Open with confidence. Great product. |
Question: | Will this replace a t&p valve for a state industries model # es655dortgw water heater |
Answer: | The T&P valves for home water heaters are standard in most ways. They have 3/4" threads for the inlet and outlet and 150 psi pressure relief setting. The only difference is the length of the stem. The stem is the portion of the valve with the male (external) threads. Some have almost no distance from the threads to the body of the valve and some have up to a couple of inches. Look at the one on you unit and buy one with a similar stem length. A little too long is OK. Too shot can be a problem. |
