12 best pool photometers

Pool photometers are essential tools used in the maintenance and monitoring of swimming pools and other water bodies. They are part of the equipment used to ensure the water's chemical balance, particularly in terms of its pH and chlorine levels. Here is what you need to know about pool photometers:

  1. Purpose: Pool photometers are primarily used to measure the concentration of various chemicals, with a focus on chlorine and pH levels. These measurements are crucial for maintaining water quality and safety in swimming pools.

  2. Chlorine Measurement: Chlorine is commonly used as a disinfectant in pools to kill bacteria and algae. Pool photometers can accurately measure the level of free chlorine in the water, ensuring that it remains within the recommended range for safe swimming.

  3. pH Measurement: pH is a measure of the water's acidity or alkalinity. Maintaining the pH level within the ideal range is essential for swimmer comfort and to prevent damage to pool equipment. Pool photometers can measure the pH of the water accurately.

  4. Photometric Method: Pool photometers use a photometric method to analyze water samples. This method involves shining light through a water sample containing a reagent that reacts with the target chemical (chlorine or pH). The photometer then measures the amount of light absorbed by the sample, which is proportional to the concentration of the chemical.

  5. Digital Readouts: Most modern pool photometers feature digital displays that provide precise readings of chemical concentrations. This makes it easy for pool operators to maintain the water at the desired levels.

  6. Reagents and Test Kits: To use a pool photometer, you typically need specific reagents and test kits designed for the photometer model. These reagents are added to the water sample before analysis.

  7. Calibration: Pool photometers may require periodic calibration to ensure accurate readings. Calibration is usually performed using standard reference solutions provided with the photometer or purchased separately.

  8. Data Logging: Some advanced pool photometers have data logging capabilities, allowing pool operators to track chemical levels over time. This data can help in troubleshooting and adjusting chemical dosing as needed.

  9. Maintenance: Regular maintenance, including cleaning the photometer's optical components and ensuring proper storage of reagents, is essential to keep the device functioning accurately.

  10. Safety: Accurate chemical measurements are critical for swimmer safety. Maintaining the right chlorine and pH levels helps prevent waterborne illnesses and ensures a comfortable swimming experience.

  11. Regulatory Compliance: Many health departments and regulatory bodies require regular water testing and documentation for public pools and commercial aquatic facilities. Pool photometers help ensure compliance with these regulations.

In summary, pool photometers are essential tools for maintaining the water quality and safety of swimming pools. They allow for precise measurement of chlorine and pH levels, helping pool operators keep the water within recommended ranges. Proper use of pool photometers contributes to a healthier and more enjoyable swimming environment.

User questions & answers

Question: Will this tell you how much in chemicals you need to add to balance after the reading
Answer: Yes, you can have multiple Vue + Expansion units on one user account in the App. Each Vue works with 1 expansion, so if you wanted monitoring for 2 mains and individual circuits, you'd need 2 Vue + 2 Expansions.
Question: Does this kit measure salt content in a salt water pool accurately
Answer: 2 Amps at 120V is 240 watts, or at 240V 480 watts. So the system's ability to "accurately" measure the exact watts being drawn is useful, but not precise. But it will register small loads as being present, but not accurately. This is the limitation of the clamp on current transformers, their proximity to other wires radiating magnetic fields all around them, and the fact that various types of devices draw power in different ways, not just "resistive" loads. Electronic devices with switching power supplies use pulse width modulation switching and draw power in small slices 60 times a second which can fool current transformers and relatively slow sampling of those transformers into not seeing a load, or seeing much load or seeing more load than is actually constantly there. Hope this all makes sense, Alternating current (AC) is a 60hz sinewave and this power measurement device samples that probably at 240hz or more, but then averages the results.

  • Uses liquid reagents for all test factors except Cyanuric Acid, which uses tablets.

User questions & answers

Question: Will the Taylor reagents work with the LaMotte meter
Answer: Yes, this kit will measure both free chlorine and total chlorine. When performing the chlorine test, the immediate result indicates your free chlorine level. Let the test sample sit for two minutes, allowing the chlorine to fully react - now the sample will indicate total chlorine. In a healthy pool, there should be no change between the two. Any change between the two indicates the presence of combined chlorine. Feel free to contact us at 9800) 854-1492 if you have any additional questions while using our test kit.
Question: How often do the chemicals have to be replaced
Answer: No, it doesn't use test strips because it's not electronic. It uses reagents and you compare the results to the color chart visually.
Question: what is the correct way to check the chlorine in the pool water
Answer: The Taylor K-2006 is far superior. It includes a test for Cyanuric Acid which this kit does not. You need to know your Cyanuric Acid (Cya) to know at what level to keep your chlorine. The K-2006 can also test up to 50 ppm in chlorine, this kit only goes to 5. This kit is pretty basic and if your pool is clean and clear it may be adequate, however if you ever get cloudy or green water this kit won't cut it.
Question: I just received my tester, but don't know what the correct numbers should be. Is there a chart that give the range for what the readings should be? I have a salt water pool
Answer: What do you mean by liquid chemical for test? It comes with 5 bottles to completely analyze your pool water. It is a very nice and thorough test for any pool owner.

User questions & answers

Question: It says it will calculate lsi. you cant calculate lsi without temp and tds, can you
Answer: No because it depends on the size of your pool. The kit is expensive. I go to my local pool shop to give me the answer as they have the size of my pool on record. Being an engineer I bought it to test parameters myself as I know the safe range. Trying to avoid adding chemicals unless essential. The pool shop will try to sell their products based on the results if you take the water sample to them. The choice is yours. There is some good material on the web on pool water chemistry even a lay person will understand. I converted my 65,000 litre normal pool to a salts water pool to avoid spending too much on Chlorine.
Question: Does it check for copper, iron and phosphates
Answer: The standard kit I purchased DID NOT contain test strips to measure salt content. You need to buy it separate I presume.
Question: where are extra tabs needed available and what is their cost and how to order
Answer: Yes
Question: Which tablets are for which test? in the list on the video, it shows bromine with 2** asterisks and calcium hardness with 1* asterisk. why
Answer: Hello, Yes, it can (and is). PoolLab uses a 3 wavelengths technology which almost equals a high-end-photometer. Best wishes

User questions & answers

Question: Where is color chart for chlorine test
Answer: I have used this product on my Invisalign, the effect is remarkable, as for the others I don’t know, I’m sorry
Question: Does the blue box this comes in actually fit the tall, 2 oz bottles
Answer: It depends on what your jewelry is made of. My platinum and diamond engagment ring and wedding band get nicely cleaned in this., as well as my Tiffany 14K and diamond jewelry. I have quite a lot of Tiffany silver jewelry that can be cleaned in this machine, but in order to remove tarnish you MUST used silver polish. Water with or without detergent won't do anything for tarnish except clean the tarnish itself. Of course you know Tiffany cleans all their jewelry for free. Just take it to any Tiffany store and they will make it look like new.
Question: Does this kit test for: combined chlorine, total dissolved solids, phosphates, and the saturation index? I'm new to chemistry and wasn't able to tell
Answer: Yes it needs to be plugged in to work. It works great cleaning glasses with a drop of dish detergent. It’s totally worth the purchase.
Question: Can you test for cyanuric acid levels
Answer: Thank you for your question! Yes.We sell sprayer including power supply!

Product description

Direct from the USA Manufacturer Made in USA POOLCHECK COPPER 3 IN 1 CONTAINS 1 BOTTLE OF 50 TESTS MEASURING THE TOTAL ALKALINITY, COPPER, AND PH WITHIN A WATER SAMPLE. With 3 tests combined into one strip, testing is super easy and efficient. No confusing testing with the new Pool Check COPPER 3 in 1. Just dip and read results in seconds. Test for Total Alkalinity, Copper, and pH all at the same time.Using our patented aperture design, Copper test strips allow the aqueous solution to pass back-and-forth through the impregnated chemical membrane. This unique design allows for the lowest sensitivity possible on a test strip. Coupled with this design is another unique feature, they contain 1/100th the amount of chemical compared to most commonly used test strips. PATENTED aperture (window) technology is more sensitive and more accurate than traditional test strips. More color blocks result in better accuracy. The pH indicator provides easy color matching for (YELLOW/GREEN/BLUE VS ORANGE/RED)improved accuracy and precision. 5 second dip time with motion allows lower detection levels and even color development NO COLOR BLEEDING EASY TO READ COLORS MADE IN THE USA

  • EASY TO USE: Single dip and read test strip procedure and optimized color chart make the product ideal for technical and non technical users alike for detection of 3 important measures of water quality in pools.
  • LOWEST DETECTION LEVELS ON A STRIP: Copper: 0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.7, 1, 2 ppm (mg/L); pH: 6.0, 6.4, 6.8, 7.2, 7.6, 8.2, 9.0 pH; Total Alkalinity: 0, 40, 80, 120, 180, 240, 360 ppm (mg/L)
  • FASTER & EASIER THAN LIQUID TESTING KITS - Strips are faster and simpler than liquid testing kits, with accuracy as good or better. Color coding makes them easy to read, and they work equally well with chlorine or bromine present in water.
  • ACCURATE AND RELIABLE: Components are tested by Quality Control personnel at each step and are rejected if they are outside of specifications. Standards are prepared using calibrated equipment, and concentrations are confirmed by recognized reference methods
  • MADE IN THE USA FOR MAXIMUM ACCURACY - Test strips made overseas can be inaccurate, hard to read due to bleeding colors, fall apart, or do not even work. Instead choose quality with a leading American manufacturer of high-grade water testing products.

User questions & answers

Question: What is the expiry date of Copper 3 in 1 Pool Check
Answer: The one with the liquids is by far the more popular. The liquids provide ease of use and quicker results. The tablets have to be crushed and the material has to settle, before being inserted. Only the cyanuric acid test always requires a tablet to be used. Buyers are happier using liquids. especially for testing free and total chlorine, pH and TA. I hope this is helpful.
