Hitachi miter saws are power tools designed for making accurate and precise crosscuts and miter cuts in various types of materials, most commonly wood, but they can also be used for cutting plastics and some metals. Here's what you need to know about Hitachi miter saws:

  1. Types of Miter Saws: Hitachi produces different types of miter saws, including compound miter saws and sliding compound miter saws. Compound miter saws can make bevel cuts in addition to miter cuts, while sliding compound miter saws have a sliding arm that allows them to cut wider boards.

  5. Laser Guides: Many Hitachi miter saws are equipped with laser guides that project a laser line onto the workpiece, helping you align the cut accurately.

  6. Dust Collection: Dust collection systems are common features on Hitachi miter saws. They help keep the work area clean and improve visibility by collecting sawdust and debris.

  7. Electric Brake: Some models may have an electric brake that rapidly stops the blade when you release the trigger. This enhances safety and allows for quicker work.

  8. Portability: Hitachi offers both stationary and portable miter saws. Portable models often come with built-in handles for easy transport to job sites.

  9. Brand Transition: Hitachi Power Tools underwent a rebranding and became known as Metabo HPT (Hitachi Power Tools) in North America. Therefore, you may find Hitachi miter saws under the Metabo HPT brand name.

Product description

Hitachi C12FDH 15-Amp 12-Inch Dual Compound Miter Saw with Laser Marker.

The Hitachi C12FDH 12-Inch Dual Compound Miter Saw with Laser Marker provides smooth, accurate miters and crosscuts in a variety of workpieces, including wood, plywood, crown molding, decorative panels, soft fiberboard, hardboard, and aluminum sashes. An ideal tool for trim carpenters, framers, and woodworkers who demand precision and reliability, the C12FDH features Hitachi's exclusive Laser Marker System for exact alignment, cutting accuracy, and predictable blade location.

Compound Feature for Precise Miters and Bevels

Hitachi designed the C12FDH for versatile, easy use. The thumb-actuated positive miter stops for simple miter adjustments at the most common angles between zero and 52 degrees to the left and right. This design allows you to easily change the angle of the cutting blade for creating miters in crown molding and other trim pieces.

The bevel scale ranges from zero to 48 degrees to the left and right, allowing your material to stay in place while you flip the saw head to make opposing cuts, and the saw head bevels to the right or left, also allowing the material to stay securely in place for cutting efficiency. After your major bevel angle is secured, a micro-bevel adjustment knob can be used to dial in a precise angle without the weight of the saw head compromising accuracy.

The 12-inch TCT saw blade (included) makes easy work of delicate trim and other woodwork, and the tall, pivoting aluminum fence stands at a height of 5-1/8 inches to allow for accurate vertical cutting of crown molding and cutting of large workpieces up to 2-5/16 inches high and 5-21/32 inches deep.

Laser Marker Technology for Perfect Cuts Everytime

Hitachi equipped the C12FDH with its exclusive Laser Marker System, which can be activated before the blade is in motion for exact alignment and predictable blade placement. The laser marker is easily adjustable to suit your preferences, simply line up the laser with your mark on the workpiece, and the saw blade will make an exact cut along the laser guide. As long as your measurements are right, your cuts will be, too!

Chock-Full of User-Friendly Features

The C12FDH has plenty of features to help you make the perfect cut the first time. To start, it has a powerful 15-amp motor that generates a no-load speed of up to 4,000 RPM to smoothly and easily cut through even the toughest hardwoods.

For precise, safe cutting, a splinter guard behind the fence increases safety and reduces tear-out for clean, finished cuts, and a comfortable horizontal handle with a vibration-reducing elastomer grip prevents slippage and keeps you in control at all times. Additionally, a large base provides support and balance to prevent material from warping, and a built-in clamping system holds your workpiece in place. An added bonus, easily accessible carbon brushes will help your saw perform for the long term.

The Hitachi C12FDH measures 24-5/8 x 30-23/32 x 27 inches and weighs 46.3 pounds. Durably built, this tool is backed with an industry-leading five-year warranty.

User questions & answers

Question: Could anyone tell me how to service the laser? Is it battery powered or powered off the saw? Can't seem to get it to work
Answer: Hi, I have gone through 1"thick x 2" long piece of mahogany and walnut . You may have to play with the different speeds I used the middle speed and it went through lovely so long as you take it easy and don't push it to hard. I have to say for the price this is a great little saw ,which I use primarily for cutting wood for my model boats so most of the wood I cut with it is basswood . It does have a bit of a kick back so you have to make sure you have the fence set to give the back of the blade a little clearance . I find the drill chuck very handy for polishing and deburring parts. This is a great mini table saw. Pete
Question: Are there bevel stops? If so, how many
Answer: 24 volt DC , no battery
Question: Are the detent locks solid, or is there play before you clamp down
Answer: This is a great little saw with a Chuck for drilling, sanding n polishing. It is variable speed n although I don't know the RPMS, but it goes down pretty slow. Cuts through hardwood like butter! The only thing I don't like about this saw is you cannot raise n lower the blade- that would make this mini table saw incredible! Very sturdy, heavy for its small size- very well constructed.
Question: can this saw miter 5 1/4 baseboards vertically
Answer: Hello. You can use it for jade polishing, jade carving, large size cutting, polishing, engraving.

User questions & answers

Question: Is the laser battery powered
Answer: Wondering about height limits. I will have an overhead over the bench. What is the distance from bench top to the top of the handle when the saw is in the fully up position?
Question: Can this hang upside down in a flip-to cart and not damage the saw
Answer: Thank you for your question. The height of CM10DG from the base to the table is 3 3/4" and 27" in width and 32" from front to back. If you have further questions please feel free to contact our Bosch Customer Service Representatives at 1-877-BOSCH-99 (1-877-267-2499)
Question: How long is the power cord
Answer: The base of the saw is 26"x16" (wide by deep) and therefore would hangover - would not recommend. Also, the base is not solid, only three inches on each end are are solid where the base rests. Finally the saw itself is approximately 32" deep. Again, I think it would be unstable to put on a 24" cart.
Question: What is the maximum width of cut for a 1”” thick board
Answer: Expanded cutting capacity: 12 In. horizontal capacity (nominal); 5-1/2 in. vertical capacity against the fence (base); 6 in. crown capacity against the fence (45° spring). Also, you can find cutting instructions in the manual starting on page 33. Here is a link to the manual:http://mdm.boschwebservices.com/files/r51484v2.pdf

User questions & answers

Question: Is the current model that is shipping type 1 or type 20. If you look up the parts diagram the type 20 has a different slide mechanism part number
Answer: I bought a new one today from a lumberyard and it is a Type 1. (says right on the sticker on the motor) Not sure if that means the slide mechanism is better or worse than the Type 20. I would assume it was made in 2014 because there is a "Dewalt use only" tag on the box which starts with 2014. Not sure if a "fresher" saw is a Type 20
Question: Can xps be added, i know dewalt makes a kit to add it to some saws, but this model was not listed
Answer: mmToolparts actually sells a kit (3 proprietary DeWalt parts + their wiring harness) for less than $70. They have videos on their website that show how to install the parts on DW716, DWS779, and DWS782 saws. You will need some additional tools (torx screw drivers or torx bits, wire strippers/cutter/crimper) and somewhat mechanically inclined. Just google "DWS779 xps light kit" and they should be the top result. This might be an easier option versus going to a DeWalt service center in the post pandemic world.
Question: Does this miter saw come with a laser or any guiding system
Answer: It does not come with any laser for guidance. You may find my answer a bit crude, I've been using miter saws for many years and the best guiding system I found to work is my/your eyes. Having lasers or no lasers you still need to use your eyes to get the work piece spot on near the cutoff point. Hope this helps!
Question: Is there an LED cut line
Answer: You can add the LED light to this saw. Not a laser but a shadow light that show exactly where the saw blade will cut. I just did it last night. Parts can be had for about $70. This basically turns it into a model 780 which is much more expensive. Pretty simple to add.
