User questions & answers
Question: | The metal sanding disk does not slide far enough back on the motor mount to clear the sides so i can't install the dust guard or the disc table. help |
Answer: | Yes. That's why I bought it. 2 caveats though. 1. If you don't clean out the sawdust, it will catch fire. 2. If you allow the steel to get too hot, it will melt the wheels/pulleys. They are plastic. I actually had better luck making knives with the Sears 2in belt grinder. |
Question: | Is 42" a common size? Just looking for ease of ordering replacement belts |
Answer: | This item does include two grinding wheels. |
Question: | Will the motor on this device work with a rheostat type speed control |
Answer: | I actually don’t know but I can’t imagine it boring 1Hp. Before you buy, here is my review, so many pros and cons to this unit. I had to mount it on a board coming down from my ceiling. There is so much torque that that when I touched the foot pedal the unit would twist so abruptly that it would pull the shaft right out of my hand! It makes much more noise that my other units, the foot pedal seems spongy. The upside is it has a metal shaft cover which bends very easily and having rheumatoid arthritis it’s more forgiving on my wrist and hand pain. The hanpiece is more comfortable than any other unit I have had. I greased it when it arrived but still noisy and the handpiece can heat up quite a bit with extended use. Would I buy this unit again? Probably not. I would however look for another flex shaft with the flexible metal shaft cover! That part was amazing and since I’m a gold smith and work over 70+ hours a week I have so much less wrist and hand pain. |
Question: | can you switch from a wood sanding belt to bevaling belt for grinding metal for like knives |
Answer: | Yes you can control the speed with the foot pedal |

User questions & answers
Question: | Replacement belts and discs |
Answer: | its for metal or wood |
Question: | is the stand included |
Answer: | Maybe this will help. The metal sanding disk does not slide on the motor mount. It slides on a shaft. Re- read the installation manual. |
Question: | Is it ok to run belt sander without front guard? I like to use the front roller for shaping sometimes |
Answer: | 42" is the next size up from 30" . 42" is very common |
Question: | Is this a practical tool for sanding/grinding metals? Or is it more for woods |
Answer: | Sorry to say, but yes. I paid just under 200 for mine. Although I like MOST Grizzly products, this one did not work out as well for me. I was using it to grind blades for knifemaking. It's okay for LIGHT woodworking......but that's about all. I think the JET brand may have something comparable to this one, but probably better quality. More money for sure though. I did buy a 2 inch Belt sander from Sears. A Craftsman, it's a little underpowered, but is good quality. I tend to use it much more. Also, Harbor Freight has a 1in by 30 inch belt sander that I bought one time. It was way cheaper than the Grizzly. But it was okay for light work. If you really want the Grizzly, you might do well to buy directly from them instead of Amazon. I find the prices on Amazon to be higher on average when buying Grizzly products. Good luck! |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is there a backer behind the belt or does it rely on just the belt tightness to stay flat |
Answer: | Yes I modified mine to use 2x72 belts aswel as having a 8”X2” unitized nylon wheel |
Question: | how to use a leather belt |
Answer: | I don't know. I purchased this to sharpen knives and therefore also purchased one of those angle-adjustable knife rests. I works well. There is one thing that is disappointing: the motor gets REALLY HOT if it it one for say, more than 20 minutes (even with just the belt on.... virtually no load on the belt). The motor housing needs some type of ventilation ducts, IMO. |
Question: | Could I theoretically put a wire wheel insted of a Disc Sander? (can the metal cover be disattached |
Answer: | This is a Chinese company. From the website."Contact us: No. 196, Kunyu North Road, Wendeng Economic Development Zone, Weihai City, Shandong Province" & "Bucktools is an old fashioned, American [type] of brand"; "type" being the operative word here. |
Question: | Does the work table for the sanding belt tilt |
Answer: | I received a sander. No knob . Why are they selling with no knob? |

User questions & answers
Question: | How powerful is it. Does it bog down when putting moderate pressure against the belt or disk. Also does it run true with little to no wobble |
Answer: | 1) With moderate pressure, it does not bog down. With heavy pressure it slows a bit, but I have not found that to be problematic. However, so you know, I use it with 1/2 in wide belts, so there would be a bit more drag with 1 in belts. 2) There is no significant wobble. It runs true. 3) The only problem I found was a slightly uneven platen, but I was able to bend it back true. |
Question: | Is the motor loud when running with nothing being sanded? How would you compare it to a corded 3/8" drill |
Answer: | It's not the quietest sander but if I had to rate the noise level on a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being the quietest and 10 being the loudest, I would give it an 8 with just the motor running. |
Question: | Does anyone know the rpm and amps for it |
Answer: | Mine says 2.3 amps and belt speed- 3340 rpm (no load) and disc speed 3350 rpm (no load). |
Question: | Can you use this sander to sand metal if you buy the right sand paper or is it just for wood |
Answer: | Yes you can use this sander to sand metal. I purchased this sander specifically to sharpen knifes and metal cutting tools, just make sure to use the right sand paper. |

Question: | Who manufactures the Fox sander buffer |
Answer: | Tracking adjustment is as good or better than any of my belt sanders. Easy to set and holds well. |
Question: | Can it be mounted horizontally to perform a hollow grind |
Answer: | It runs on a 14A circuit. That being said, it (like some grinders) needs a running start. You can't just turn it on. Doing so I have found will blow the circuit. You need to spin the drive wheel by hand and then tune it on. |
Question: | Does this ship in 2 boxes or |
Answer: | The belt arm on the G1015 is designed to tilt vertically or horizontally. |
Question: | how dose the belt tracking mechanism rate as far as preformance |
Answer: | Not that my husband (for whom I bought the equipment) was aware. He wanted the complete set and that is what we purchased.Deborah Rogers |

User questions & answers
Question: | I see in the description this tool is intended for wood, what would happen if metal is used |
Answer: | The sanding belt and disc is what is intended for wood. Get a metal sanding belt/disc and you will be good to go! |
Question: | What is the country of origin |
Answer: | China. But it works well. The only problem is the dust port on the belt sander. It’s next to impossible to plug a vac into it when it’s in the upright position as it’s generally pictured. You have to jury-rig a flexible hose to the sander to which you can attach a vac hose. |
Question: | Is the dust port removable |
Answer: | The dust ports are fixed on the machine and two universal size reducers( 1-3/8 In O.D) are connected to the outside of the dust ports. |
Question: | I wanted this model for sharpening lawnmower blades and wondered,if it will do the job |
Answer: | I use a 4x36 with 60 grit zirconia belt to sharpen my mower blades. Iin my opinion it is far superior to the angle grinder and flap disk method, and the hand held on a bench grinder method. It is faster, more precise, and more controllable than those alternates. It leaves the best looking edge I've ever put on a mower blade. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Has anyone used a 1 inch sanding belt with this machine |
Answer: | On a scale of 1-10, I would put it's loudness at about a 4 or 5. It's not exactly 'quiet,' but I can play music on my shop speaker at a reasonable volume, and still be able to hear it while sanding/grinding.On a related note - this is an AMAZING sander! It's a little on the pricey side, but worth every penny. I've done precision work on it with everything from hardwood to bone/antler, to high-carbon steel (scale and all) |
Question: | are you able to tilt the sanding assembly to be flat, or close to it |
Answer: | Shop Fox is the manufacturer. It's made in China but I love mine. I use it for knife making and it is a great, cheap entry level 2x72 grinder. Bonus, you get a buffer at the same time. It's super easy to change the belts and the buffer wheels. You just need to get some good quality belts and some 6 inch wheels. The work rest is small so I modified mine and made it larger. It has plenty of power. |
Question: | Is this machine good to use for grinding knife bevels? If it is, is it good for long term grinding |
Answer: | Yes it can be mounted horizontally. |
Question: | How loud is this sander on a scale of |
Answer: | It ships in 2. I had to reship to get both |
