Answer:	It was not be cost effective because you would need too many attachments. You’d have to modify the tool rest. It would turn it but you couldn’t hold the tool to turn it without modifications. There are lathes out there built for using with aluminum. Hope this helps

Answer:	You can buy a conversion kit from Penn State. It comes with a new motor and electronics. Note that the lowest speed is 650 vs 500 RPM which is faster that recommended if you use Cole Jaws.

Answer:	This lathe has a variable speed controller, so the speeds may be changed using the simple rotating knob. To provide speed ranges to suit any situation, especially for the more experienced turner, there is a three step pulley. This arrangement allows the variable speed controller to adjust speeds from 60 to 900 rpm on the low step of the pulley, 110 -1800 rpm on the 2nd step (medium), and a high speed range of 220 -3600 rpm on the the 3rd step. The belt need only be changed if you want to move to a different range of speeds. This is a very simple process.

Question:	is there an adapter for the face plate for mounting live center chucks? I bought one but won't line up with holes
Answer:	I'm not sure if they make the adapter to mount on the face plat. I have a 2" diameter three jaw,self centering scroll type chuck that i bought from Amazon that ihave used that works great,but i think that the holes in the face plate is for mounting a backing block to the piece of wood stock to turn a bowl. It says in the manual that you glue the block to the wood your turning and use the holes to screw the block on to face plate. Hope this helped.
Question:	What size wood stock can it hold? How about something like 12'' long by 8" wide piece of wood
Answer:	The length it will hold will be dependant upon what chucks you have in the head and tail stock. The bulkier the chucks, the shorter the length it will handle. I'd say it will hold 12" lengths unless your chucks are sizable. I wouldn't try more than 4" width stock unless it was short. Although the lathe may hold the stock, it would be too much for the motor. The intended purpose of this lathe is to make small things like ink pens, Christmas ornaments, small toys like tops or yo-yo's and tool handles etc. If you want to mount 12" X 8" stock you should be looking at full sized lathes.

Answer:	Yes. It has has three holes in the base that you can bolt it down with. I bolted mine down on a metal stand. It holds it down real solid. Mine is the Shop Fox W1704 also. It is well built. I really like mine. Hope this helps!

Answer:	Basically, you will need a 7mm MT2 mandrel and your tools. When you order your pen kits, make sure you get the bushings and drill bit. Depending on how you finish the pens, you may need a buffing system. For acrylics, get a set of micro pads, they really bring the shine out. Answer:	It comes with the pieces to be able to perform all the functions that it displays, yes, however the size is on such a small scale that you are putting way more effort into trying to use this than you are getting out of it. This wasn't good for anything that I purchased it for, and isn't adaptable to larger scale pieces. Doesn't have a lot of power at all to perform any of the 'tasks' it boasts to accommodate.

Question:	Hi. It has enough strength for work with wood. how many horsepower have. The lathe comes as shown in the photo
Answer:	i have turned 8" diameter oak logs that are 36" long. they weigh over 50 lbs when i mount them. the lathe works great. slow speed to start (so as to avoid natural frequency vibration when the log is out of round). the lathe rpm can be adjusted from about 50 rpm to 1000 rpm. i usually mount a rough log (bark and all), lock the lathe rigid, and rough work the log with an electric chain saw until the lathe can take over without throwing the log out of live and dead centers. i also bought the 41" lathe extension. i highly recommend the jet.

Answer:	I built my own stand to save a lot money. Its about 5ft long and holds both the main piece and extension. I also have it low enough to where the spindle is about elbow height when standing up.

Answer:	I believe Jet sells an extension leg separately to accommodate the lathe bed extension. However, I only bought the lathe and lathe bed extension and then built the stand for that combination. Sorry I can't be more help.

Answer:	Yes, the stand will work with something homemade. In fact, I would argue that a well built homemade stand would be sturdier than the manufactured one from Jet. Some points to consider when building a homemade stand. 1. Will the stand be mobile or stationary. Mobile is nice for cleanup and small spaces, but is less stable and more prone to vibration. Stationary stands are much more stable and can be loaded down with "dead weight", for instance bags of sand or concrete mix. These have the added effect of reducing vibration. 2. Construction considerations for the stand should include height, weight and mobility. Also, consider tool storage and lighting. You can build an upper cabinet for lighting and storage of consumables, and you can make angled tool holders in the front with pvc pipe. Just fill the bottom several inches with rigid foam or devise a way to create spray foam plugs. The purpose of these would be to protect the tool edges as you slide them into the pipe. Hope this helps. I would highly recommend making your own stand. You can design it to fit your particular space, needs and budget.
