Question:	can it drill 1/4 holes into plastic
Answer:	----Its not the drill, It's the BIT ----Hanson makes particular bits for drilling plastic, with any drill regardless of voltage, and theyre available most any good hardware store or Tap Plastics. They have a particularly pointed tip, so don't ever attempt to ever use them on wood or metal, as doing so would render it crapp for plastic use from then on. I have 1/8, 3/16, and 1/4 in my arsenal, and they pretty much cover any plastic, ABS, PVC, and especially Plexi-Glas projects I encounter. Yeah, they're a buck or two higher than regular bits, but they also wont crack your pretty plexi-glas project all to hell like a standard twist drill bit will.

Answer:	Yes, it has a light. But it's worse than useless. It lights the area nearby, but casts a shadow on the spot you are drilling. The glare makes it actually harder to see what you're doing.

Answer:	I had an oportunity to use the 18V when I installed the railings on my father in laws staircase. I worked absolutely great but I had to keep switching batteries and kept one on the charger. He got it last Christmas. I told myself then the Dewalt was far superior to the two brands of portable drills I was using that I was going to get a Dewalt for myself. Honestly, when I ordered the 20V I assumed it was the same as my father in law had but his was the 18V. I would be happy with either but the 20V I have is smaller in size and lighter than the 18V that he has. Plus the 20V lithium batteries last a long long time before you have to recharge but then again replacement batteries are expensive. I just used the 20V to build my garage and so far I've only swithed batteries 5 times and that includes all the siding, drywall, wire routing. BTW I use the new star bit screws for everything they are far superior to phillips and I have given all my boxes of phillips screws away; along with my two "other brand" cordless drills.

Answer:	In the shop I use my 3/8 impact wrench from dewalt with a 20v 5ah battery and i can go almost 2 days before having to charge my battery and i use it for almost everything. It will take off tires, pull headbolts, engine mounts, t-case bolts, and so on. I would recommend if you're working on your vehicle getting the impact wrench with impact sockets. I put about $500 into what i use and it hasn't let me down yet in almost 4 years. With the wrench you won't need the adapter from screw bit to socket so that will save you a headache if you loose it.

An impact drill gives pulses of force laterally (in the direction of rotation) to turn big bolts, a hammerdrill delivers the same force forward. It turns out that this force is so minimal it’s basically useless. If you actually need a hammer drill what you really need is a rotary hammer. Much greater forward bang. A hammer drill is a bit like a vibrating razor. Only useful in masonry and then it goes just as fast without.

Answer:	Actually, I used it on a whim to change out the tire on my wife's CR-V. She discovered she had picked up a screw while at soccer practice. I grabbed this impact, the adapter, the socket, and my 4 way and headed to the park. I was planning on breaking them loose with the 4 way and zipping them off and on with the impact. I tried the impact first on a whim. It broke loose 4 of the 5 nuts, and did a good job of seating them all when I put the spare on. I finished torquing them with the 4 way, but I barely even budged them. They would have likely been fine with just the impact. Now, this tool wouldn't stand a chance against the lug nuts on my 1 ton diesel, but neither would any of 3/8" or regular duty 1/2" impacts.
Question:	Can you take simi, and regular tires off with this impact
Answer:	It certainly IS NOT going to take semi lug nuts off. It won't take the lugs nuts of pickups or SUVs either. And while it MIGHT manage to remove an under torqued lug nut from a tiny car, it WILL NOT pull properly torqued lug nuts off of anything. This is a ONE QUARTER INCH impact driver for screws, and small nuts and bolts. To pull wheels, get at least a 1/2" impact with 300 plus FOOT POUNDS of torque (and that won't do semi's)

Answer:	I own this drill and it will drill and hammer drill only. When hammer drill setting is selected it rotates and hammers. Theres no way to have it hammer with out rotation. I mostly use this drill for large wood holes 3/4 -1in or with holes saws in wood. This drill has so much power that I use it almost only in 3rd high gear. It's fun watching the unsuspecting coworker put it in low and watch them go for a ride .lol

Answer:	There are no dumb questions except those not asked. If the word hammer is used in the description then you are dealing with a hammer drill. The hammer setting is designed for use with a masonry drill bit for use when drilling into concrete or bricks and is not beneficial when using a regular drill bit and drilling into regular surfaces. It is not a matter of being "too powerful" but a matter of being unnecessarily pounding on a surface where there is no need or benefit to pound. The hammer setting does not get used unless drilling with a masonry bit.

Answer:	The "kit" as advertised on Amazon is the drill, charger, two batteries, and case. At $189.00 it is a great deal. The drill,etc. is terrific.

Answer:	Another way to figure out a torque rating of a Dewalt drill is to go to Dewalt's EU site, pick United Kingdom and look at the specs. They list both torque specs in this case. MAX is 70 nm soft is 27 nm converting to 619.55 in-lb and 238.97 in-lb. Hard torque is instant torque delivered. Usually at the start of an application; whereas, soft torque is applied throughout the application like when driving a screw.

Answer:	A separate 20v utility light is available for around $15 which utilizes the same 20v L-I battery. I bought one last year and am very happy w/ it. It uses multiple led bulbs and spreads a more diffused light than the average flashlight, but I use it extensively out of doors and for low light repair projects.

Answer:	Yes you can but you should not for long periods of time.Its a simple thing every battery has a limited amount of charges that can be done.While Lithium Ion does discharge slowly they do discharge and will then waste a charge.Also the charger likely has an overcharge protector but that uses power too if not then it is always charging hence wasting more power.Your charger should take an hour with those tiny batteries add an hour charge time each mah on battery pack.

I suspect this becase they operate under the bits and are covered with all material drilled; it had yo be lose enough to fall free with out binding the battery. They all work great. Batt life is most affected by leaving on the charger, remove once charged.

Answer:	I would think that if you open the chuck all the way and look in the bottom of the chuck there should be a bolt holding it in. At least on most drills that's how they are held in.

Answer:	I bought this tool for use in Hong Kong with 240v. I bought the DCB118 fast charger from the UK along with a FlexVolt battery (DCB606) and they work perfectly with the DCD996B (and my DCF887B). It is worth noting that shipping of Li-ion batteries is now restricted internationally based on a number of factors including watt-hours and if the battery is being shipped on it's own or with equipment. I had to return a combo kit as my US trans-shipper would not ship Li-ion batteries with equipment and gave me no option to split the package and ship the batteries separately (conversely, they shipped the larger FlexVolt battery (54V) with charger from the UK without issue).Compatible chargers include DCB102, DCB118, DCB132, and DCB1800B.If you are going to buy the DCD996 (or other 20V MAX tool), then in my experience, just buy the bare tool and then source the battery and charger locally.

Answer:	DeWalt is built by Black and Decker. The old style batteries were interchangable but the new 20 volt batteries have different tabs to prevent this. They do this to prevent people from buying a $20 black and decker battery and using it on all DeWalt tools. This forces people to buy the more expensive DeWalt battery if they have DeWalt tools.

It's a bare tool only, so no, it won't work without you buying a battery separately.
