User questions & answers
Question: | Is it true that the hammer is only "positive placement" for nails up to 2.5" long |
Answer: | Yes, pp tip for nails up to 2.5" in length. Framing tip for up to 3.5" |
Question: | How is it powered? Is it pneumatic or battery operated and/or use compressed gas cylinders |
Answer: | It is pneumatic. I've been using a 6 gal Campbell Hausfeld compressor with 1/4" quick disconnects at about 90 - 100 psi for metal connectors and 16d nails and have never run out of air. I bought it mainly for the metal connector ability, which it does great, but is also great for down to 6d nails. Just turn down the pressure on the smaller nails. |
Question: | Is it difficult to find nails for this hammer |
Answer: | Metal connector nails need to be larger around to fit properly in the holes and have the shear strength. If the nail is longer than 2-1/2 inches the gun will not fire by design. I can only find the 1-1/2 21 degree nails on Amazon and Home Depot online. They are expensive, but surprisingly, I tried some 33 degree 1-1/2 inch nails in this gun and it fires normal. I don't see any wear as a result either. I would not try this with longer 33 degree nails because they would angle out of reach of the driver. The gun out performs my old Senco SN60 by a large margin, is lighter, but about an inch taller. |
Question: | What is the difference between a round head and a clipped head nailer |
Answer: | The round head is the traditional type nail you would find in a box or bin of nails. The clipped head is the round head clipped off to the width of the nail shank on two sides--does not had the holding power of the round head. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How long for pressure to build up on initial start up? Thanks |
Answer: | If it's not holding pressure check all connections you may have a loose one. |
Question: | If i buy this for my husband, do i need to buy an air hose, and if so, what do i buy? this is all stuff i know nothing about. thank you |
Answer: | Air hose and some attachments come with. In the future you may want to get a kit with air gun, tire inflater and changeable fittings. |
Question: | Can this be used for roofing |
Answer: | It works perfectly to run one roofing gun. I’ve bought two of them and they both could handle the work load perfectly. And to comment on one of these guys replies to your question, He said the compressor would run continuously and burn up” well that’s not only untrue but impossible. You would have to be able to lay 5 square an hour all day long not just an hour or two for it to even be remotely possible to burn up that compressor. Not saying you couldn’t lay 5 square an hour but you can’t do it for several hours straight that’s for sure. I personally have put on 11 bundles per hour for the first 2 hours and the compressor did not run continuously and even if it did it wouldn’t have burnt up. Those specific compressors are designed to click off and on as many times as you can make them do so. |
Question: | Can a framing nailer be used on this compressor or just finishing |
Answer: | Yes, I run my Hitachi framing nailer off this. Maybe 30-40 .141 x3" nails into dimensional lumber before the compressor kicks on. Could I use a more powerful compressor for framing? Sure. But the weight and cost of this thing are very nice. Would be underpowered for roofing or sheathing applications, though. |

User questions & answers
Question: | will it take any brand of nails |
Answer: | I have used two different brands so far. As long as the nails are plastic coated, 21 degree I believe any brand would work. The best prices I have found on nails is at harbor freight. 2500 nails for around $28. I have used 2 1/2" and 3 1/2" |
Question: | How come just below the nailer specs they say "often bought with this product"....22 degree nails....not |
Answer: | I used some of the 22 degree without a problem. I've used Bostich guns for 30 years prior to this gun & this is as good as any I've used.t's a great nailer |
Question: | do the nails have to be plastic coated |
Answer: | Plastic coated? No. But I do believe they have to be Plastic Collated, that is, they need to be bound together with plastic. I'm not sure if paper collated nails will work. |
Question: | What kind of air compressor do you recommend for this nailer |
Answer: | It really depends on how you're using it. If you're intermittently nailing with in and not imitating a machine gun- you can use a pancake or similar small compressor. The working pressure of the nailer is 70-115 PSI. I run mine at 100 PSI. Any portable compressor should be able to hit that pressure. The real question is duty cycle. If you're nailing every few seconds then you'll need a compressor capable of keeping up with the volume of air being consumed OR you'll have to slow down until your compressor stops running before firing the next nail. I run mine on 2 different compressors and don't have any issues- one is a 40 gallon shop compressor- the CFM is infinite compared to the gun. The other compressor is 2.6 CFM. I don't rapid fire when I'm using it and I can fire several nails before the compressor has to cycle. As long as you're not continuing to fire when the compressor is running you should be OK. |

Numax 21º Full Head Framing Nailer
It's time to tackle a new project - and we have just the tool to get it done. The SFR2190 is perfect for framing, but did you know you can also use a framing nailer to install sub-floors, roof decking, wood fencing, sheathing, and more? We designed this nailer with you in mind, so it has all of the premium features you need to get started.
Step 1: Choose Firing Mode
Your framing nailer comes with a black single-fire trigger already assembled. This is the best choice if you haven't used a framing nailer before, or if you want accurate nail placement.
Follow the manual instructions to install the red bump-fire trigger if you want quick successive firing.
Step 2: Connect to Compressor
Set your compressor to 70 PSI and use the quick-connect fitting on your air hose to connect your framing nailer. If you have a really dense material, you can increase the pressure up to 115 PSI.
Put a few drops of oil into the fitting before connecting to a compressor to keep things running smoothly!
Step 3: Load Nails
Pull the side lever back along the magazine until it snaps into place.
Drop the nails into the open channel on the top of the magazine. The angle of the nails should match the angle of the nose of the nailer.
Lift the lever at the back of the magazine to release the side lever and secure the nails.
Step 4: Adjust and Go!
This nailer is loaded with features that let you customize for any project. Change the depth adjust, 360º air exhaust, or remove the no-mar tip for extra holding power.
Pro Tip: Use piece of scrap material to test out your nailer before starting on the real thing!
21º Plastic Collated Full-Head Framing Nails
A 'plastic collated nail' just means that the nails are held together with a thin strip of plastic. They are great for DIY projects because there are no issues with glue or sharp pieces of metal flying around when you're working. We suggest you use 21º nails for the best performance, but the SFR2190 can use any nail from 20º - 22º. The magazine fits nails from 2" to 3-1/2" long and is compatible with any generic brand, which is perfect if you have nails left over from other projects! If you don't have any leftover nails, we've listed some fasteners here that have worked for our customers in the past.

User questions & answers
Question: | Aside from the name, is there any difference between this and the hitachi nr90aes |
Answer: | Good morning, No difference at all. Same exact tool other than the name. Have a wonderful day :) |
Question: | Can u use this gun to use on concrete wall faring strips |
Answer: | This gun shoots a plastic collated nail with the angle of the nails at 21 degrees. It shoots up to a 3 1/2” nail. It will shoot nails into wood but not concrete. Hope this helps! |
Question: | Can the air inlet fitting be changed to a different size? my compressor (craftsman cmec6150) has 1/4" npt. nailer has 3/8" inlet |
Answer: | Absolutely, it will allow more air flow with less pressure. |
Question: | Does this nailer take 22 degrees nails |
Answer: | The variance on the 20-22 Degree Nailers is 19.5 to 22 Degrees. There is no separate difference between any of these tools that are designed for 20 Degree Plastic Collated FRH Nails. Anybody who makes a statement otherwise does not know what they are talking about, or has bought some bad nails in the past and it got blamed on the 1 Degree difference. First off, unlike Senco, Bostitch and Paslode, who manufacture most of their Nails or govern the quality of the spec, most manufacturers of pneumatics do not manufacture their own nails, they source to the lowest bidder, which means you can get some real junk. You get what you pay for. Most of the North American produced product is of good quality. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this made in the USA |
Answer: | The BTFP71917 uses straight finish nails. |
Question: | Will this take paslode or dewalt nails |
Answer: | It has a no mar tip that is specific to this gun although it takes much less pressure on the tip to shoot the gun compared to other guns |
Question: | Whats the degre angle on this nailer |
Answer: | I disagree with the person who said they wont fit a wide face. I need glasses that are wider and with longer temples than normal. These can be adjusted and they fit me great. So if you have a large head, give these a try |
Question: | Where can you buy the standard no-mar tips for this bostitch btfp71917 nailer |
Answer: | Our regular safety glasses and safety sunglasses are currently not ANSI Z87.1 certified, but we are looking into the possibility of subjecting the glasses to this certification process in the near future. If OSHA / Z87 certification is a requirement for you, then our over-spec safety glasses might be of interest to you, as they are fully ANSI Z87.1 and OSHA certified. This pin nailer offers you the power of pneumatic action backed by Bostitch's long history of producing innovative fastening technology for dependable on-the-job performance.
Powerful, Adjustable Fastening for Precise, Clean Work
The Bostitch HP118K is well-suited for use with slim or delicate materials that might be split by an 18-gauge nail or brad. With this tool and set of 23-gauge pin nails, you can save time and money by preventing damage to work surfaces. An ideal choice for woodworking applications, the HP118K provides effective fastening for glue sets that are tough or impossible to clamp, and it will help you avoid the witness marks or holes that can be left by other driver heads, letting you create clean finished products.
Designed to keep you in control at all times, this nailer offers an adjustable high/low power control that sets pin depths without requiring you to adjust your compressor setting. It backs this precision with the ability to deliver 60 in./lbs. of driving power, so you can be sure that each pin is securely seated.
With the ability to handle 23-gauge headless pin nails that range from 1/2 inch to 1-3/16 inches, this nailer enables you to utilize a wide range of fasteners for job-specific performance. And its magazine capacity of 200 pins allows you to work without stopping to reload.
Ergonomic Design for Comfort and Convenience
The HP118K offers a full range of design features dedicated to smooth, safe, and intuitive use. It features a low-profile nosepiece that tapers down to the contact point which offers a clear line-of-site for perfect placement. An over-molded grip ensures slip-free handling, and it is balanced to sit comfortably in your hand during extended use. And, for added comfort while you work, the nailer's rear exhaust directs air away from your face. The pin nailer also features a reversible belt hook for convenience on the job.
Its compact body is easy to maneuver, which is of particular importance when doing intricate work like crafting custom cabinetry or picture frames, and, thanks to a durable, lightweight aluminum housing, it weighs just 2.5 pounds.
Reliable, Pneumatic Performance
This lightweight durable tool operates between 70 and 120 PSI and includes a 1/4-inch NPT fitting for easy coupling with your air hose and compressor.

User questions & answers
Question: | What's the difference with other same products |
Answer: | Hello, this was a gift so I'm not sure what the difference is but the person I brought this for swears behind this company name |
Question: | Can this nailer go through oak - e.g. some oak cove or shoe molding |
Answer: | This nailer will go through oak but I had to crank up the air pressure to above 95 psi to make sure it set the pins below the surface. Try it out on a piece of scrap and see what it does for you. |
Question: | gun fires, but nails won't come out. What is the problem |
Answer: | If the gun sounds like it is firing and no nails are coming out, you need to clear the jamb by removing the front plate. Once clear, the nails should feed. check for gunk on the nails or that it is inserted with the point down. (chisel point is easy to see with a very bright light.) |
Question: | Why won't the 1/2" pins stay in place when ever you drive one in, next one jumps from groove |
Answer: | I have used both extremes in pin length, 1 3/16 and the shortest I think was 3/8, all with no problem. If the "next one jumps from the groove" as you say, are the pins still in the colated (glued together) row or have the ones you're using been separated before they were loaded into the nailer. Also are you using Bostitch pins or an off brand? I have always used Bostitch pins and I am careful not to separate them before they go into the nailer. This combination seems to always work fine for me. P.A. Schuster |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can the trigger be locked |
Answer: | There is no way of locking the trigger on mine. You might contact Bosch to see if they have put a trigger lock on newer models, but I doubt it. I should think that would be unsafe. |
Question: | Can anyone tell me the dimensions of the case |
Answer: | The case is 18 3/4 in long by 14 1/2 in wide by 5 in deep |
Question: | Do this Com with Box storage |
Answer: | Mine did come with a double latched high impact plastic storage/tote box. If you are buying it online (Amazon, etc) read the fine print to see if a box is included. Good luck. |
Question: | can this be used for digging holes to plant trees |
Answer: | The simple answer is; yes it can. You can buy a "spade bit" (typically 4 1/2" wide) to loosen up hard soil. Use it on the hammer only setting. These bits are not very long, so you would have to loosen up soil to about 6" then dig out the soil and do it again until you get to a suitable depth. You probably should consult with a Horticulturist about amending the soil before you plant a tree in soil so hard you would need a hammer drill to dig in it. |
