User questions & answers

Question: Would it make an ideal knife for food preparation when camping
Answer: Yes, for what it is, it's a decent knife. I figure it would be viable for food prep
Question: is it more comfortable with no handle just metal or maybe some nice paracord wrap? like the karambit always needs to lose its handle
Answer: The handle is way to thick I did a para chord wrap on my it was way better
Question: Is the delivery timely
Answer: yeah it got here quick before the date specified
Question: What is the grade of Stainless Steel used in this knife
Answer: It's 440 stainless, grade not specified. I doubt it's 440C.
Question: does it brake
Answer: There is no brake pedal. Does it Break? It is a really tough knife. I have used it every time we go camping. If you are using it as it's purpose as a knife it should never break. If you use it otherwise like say a pry bar yes you could break it.
Question: Is the top of the drop point sharpen? It looks like it in the picture
Answer: The top of the knife, near the tip has what is called a false edge. It is NOT sharp. I don't recommend anyone sharpen it since you and others run the risk of getting cut, because a false edge is a standard feature on some knives. You may forget, and others may not know the false edge is sharp, so I advise against it.
Question: Is this a good long lasting knife
Answer: It's a great knife. The sheat is not that great.
Question: Will it make a great boot knife
Answer: Yes, it can be a boot knife. It is the biggest a boot knife can be and still be a boot knife. It weighs abount 7 ounces with the sheath and cord it comes with. It has a nylon sheath that is very thin. The blade is 5.75 inches long. The handle 4.75 inches long. From where the drop point starts on top of the blade to the sharp part on the blade is just under 1.5 inches.

User questions & answers

Question: Can it cut thru rope and twin
Answer: Yes it is very sharp out of the box but after a few uses dulls pretty quick
Question: Is the blade 3.5 inch or 4.5 inch
Answer: 4.5
Question: How long is the knife open
Answer: When open the blade is 3-1/2" long. Overall length of the knife open is 8-1/4" total back to tip..
Question: Looks orange in photo, are you sure it's red
Answer: Yes it's red.
Question: Is this pocket knife not legal in NY for some reason? Amazon would not ship
Answer: I don't love in NY, so I can't say. I think only 3 inches in most states.
Question: Is it spring assisted
Answer: Yes
Question: does this really come with the extra black knife? lol I did just purchase it
Answer: No it only comes with it if you your cart purchase is $20 or more.
Question: is the blade on this knife half serrated or is it a smooth edge as in the picture
Answer: The blade is smooth and extremely sharp. Exactly as pictured.
Question: Is it real Gold
Answer: Is this a serious question? For the price of this knife I am surprised at its quality enough. I believe it is anodized aluminum and if you get one with the gold blade it is provably titanium nitride coating. Either way for the price it is a steal.
Question: Replacement screws
Answer: Not available as far as I know. Mine lost the screws holding the clip and I had to take it to my jeweler to have them find some that could fit.... however I was also offered to weld the little thing on. I still love the blade
Question: Is this a real knife
Answer: Yes but it is just a colored blade. Screws tend to fall out after a few months.
Question: Why cant i have it shipped to my address i live in boston massachussets
Answer: Seller issues... Have you tried contacting the company?
Question: Is this good for skinning animals. Need a good knife fir this trapping season
Answer: This is a sturdy, well constructed knife with a thick blade. I believe you can use this knife for whatever task you desire.
Question: What is the grind? Full flat, sabre/flat, sabre/hollow, hollow
Answer: It's full flat ground from back to edge, not hollow ground.
Question: What is the blade made of
Answer: Most of MTech's products are 8Cr13MoV, a slightly above average Chinese export stainless steel, though some of their older designs are still made with 440A, a softer stainless. This is made with the former. The heat treat is very good, resulting in a tough knife that holds its edge well and sharpens easily. The titanium coating isn't a "hoax"; it's a titanium COLORED coating similar to stonewash or blackwash, intended to give added protection against corrosion. The coating is uneven on this model and will wear away fairly quickly, but it's stainless steel: As long as you keep it clean and dry when not in use and maybe use a little oil, you shouldn't have problems with rust or discoloration.
Question: What exactly is the steel? One of the very most important things about the knife is not mentioned
Answer: I don't know what kind of steel it is. But I really like it. If I lose it I will get another one.
Question: is it spring assisted
Answer: No it is not spring assisted. I wouldn't suggest it for pocket carry as the strap cutter can get caught on your pants. I keep mine in my truck for emergencies.
Question: is the window punch, spring loaded
Answer: The window punch is actually as small pice of aluminum built into the butt of the knife and is stationary (not spring loaded), about 4/10ths c wide by 4/10ths cm high. If you use the zoom feature on by hovering over the picture of the knife you can see it. Though I haven't had to use the window breaker yet, I would suggest on buying a tool built for breaking a window. Also the blade is not spring assisted as the description would say but thumb assist. Use your thumb to press down on a stationary leaver and flick your wrist to open, the downward force of your thumb and momentum of your wrist open the blade and snap it in place.
Question: Is this considered a gravity knife
Answer: No. It does open by flipping a lever, much like a trigger. Check with local authorities about legality. It is not a gravity knife.
Question: I just got this knife. Opened it twice, and on the second open, it's now stuck open. How do I close it
Answer: I had a similar problem. If you don't know how to unlock it, simply look at the knife handle with blade facing you, and look near the guard. Under it should be a curved piece of metal inside the hollow area of the grip. Push that with your thumb to the left. That doesn't. Work, try right. When I first got it it was hard to close too. Just push with more force and it'll give way. It also eventually gets much easier. Thanks for asking! If you find no solution, contact the company, who's name is Mtech. Hope this helped!

User questions & answers

Question: Is there a horizontal sheath for this knife
Answer: Probably because they want to be able to sell their products in California; I believe life is generally a cause of death in California. The handle material is made of a hard plastic (very durable). I'm gonna guess that's why; CA lawyers require a warning on everything man-made.
Question: Did they change the color of the handle? Description says black & grey and it looks blue in every pic I've seen
Answer: Tip down carry
Question: Country of manufacture
Answer: The blade is made of 440 stainless steel.. I have purchased at least five or six of these knives.. I would go as far as to say that this is the biggest bargain on Amazon.. It's such a good knife at such a budget friendly price point of under $10.. You literally couldn't beat it with a bat..
Question: This is a fantastic knife, but is there a place i can order a better sheath for it? Preferably something like a locking kydex one or something
Answer: Not an answer but didn’t want to start yet another new one, and really hate non-answers. So please, does this case fit Ray Ban New Wayfarer Large (size 55-18)? Thanks for any pertinent info.

User questions & answers

Question: How big is the blade? 3.5 inches
Answer: That's correct.
Question: Could this potentialy be thrown
Answer: Yes , with practice any Bowie knife can be thrown .
Question: Can you get the black finish off
Answer: Of course you can, but it will take some work with an abrasive. I personally find it effective as rust protection and see little reason to remove it.
Question: Full tang? Length and thickness of the blade
Answer: Yes it is full tang, about 14" overall, & about 1/8" thick blade. Easily on par with my Cold Steel, & SOG knives.
Question: Has anyone bought a new sheath for this knife? And if so which one
Answer: No and I wouldn’t waist my money on it, unless they have improved the steel quality, I bought mine some years back and the first time I tried to spit some small pieces of wood for a fire with it it broke right at the handle. Cheap knife so I guess you get what you pay for

User questions & answers

Question: is there any way to reduce the strength of the spring used to flip open the blade
Answer: Your question is old but for anyone else wondering the same: The most common issue is they simply have the screw on the pivot too tight, so loosening that a bit may fix your problem. I like to take them apart and also sand any burrs and dry lube it. If the part holding the blade closed is the issue, then look for a tiny raised dot on the liner lock just a few mm from where it touches the blade (open position). In the blade there a small matching hole or slot so when closed the raised dot fits in. I simply sand down the little dot a bit. Be careful because too much and it'll open way too easily, so maybe sand a third off at first. It's best to sand that with the knife apart but I have done it on knives that simply won't come apart. If the liner lock spring is so strong it makes unlocking it difficult, you can bend so it isn't exerting so much force on the blade. This will also take pressure off the dot holding the blade closed. Just be sure it still has enough curve left to firmly lock the blade open. To bend the liner you have to take it apart. As for taking the knife apart and adjusting the screw on the pivot, I have a collection of small Torx and Allen wrenches I bought here and on ebay. The last one I did was T-7 Torx and I think most are about that size. Allen sizes are usually metric, like 1.5 or 2mm. Since the screws on chinese stuff are usually very soft, and Allen wrenches usually under sized, there's a very good chance it'll just round the screw out, which is why some simply won't come apart. So I often use a Torx on the Allen screw that fits very tight, or sand an Allen or Torx that's bigger until it fits tight.
Question: What type of lock is it
Answer: Spring lock. The blade opening allows an internal bar to spring into it's place locking the blade. Push the bar to the side to close blade.
Question: does it come pretty sharp
Answer: Yes, it's sharp on arrival.
Question: What type of engagement are the screws that hold the pocket clip
Answer: The pocket clip uses Torx #6 screw heads with a M3 thread. The screws insert approximately 2mm into the handle.
