3 best crimping tool for pex pipes
A crimping tool for PEX pipes is a specialized tool used in plumbing to create reliable and watertight connections in PEX (cross-linked polyethylene) tubing systems. Here's what you need to know about crimping tools for PEX pipes:
Purpose:
- The primary purpose of a crimping tool is to compress a copper or stainless steel crimp ring (also known as a PEX ring or clamp) around the PEX pipe and fitting. This creates a secure, leak-proof connection.
Components:
- Handles: These provide leverage for the user to apply pressure.
- Crimping Head: This part of the tool holds the crimp ring and positions it around the joint.
- Jaws: The jaws are the specific part of the crimping head that squeezes the crimp ring.
Types of Crimping Tools:
- Manual Crimpers: These are hand-operated tools where the user applies force to crimp the ring. They are suitable for small-scale projects and are cost-effective.
- Battery-Powered Crimpers: These are equipped with a battery and motor that applies the necessary force for crimping. They are more efficient for larger projects and reduce physical strain on the user.
- Hydraulic Crimpers: These use hydraulic pressure to create the crimp, making them highly efficient for heavy-duty applications.
Compatibility:
- It's crucial to ensure that the crimping tool is compatible with the specific size of PEX pipe and fittings being used. Different tools are designed for different PEX sizes (e.g., 1/2 inch, 3/4 inch, etc.).
Proper Technique:
- Using a crimping tool requires proper technique to ensure a secure connection. This involves placing the crimp ring in the correct position and applying steady, even pressure.
Advantages:
- Reliability: When used correctly, crimped connections provide a reliable and durable seal.
- Cost-Efficiency: PEX crimping tools are generally more affordable than other methods of making PEX connections.
- Versatility: They can be used for a variety of PEX applications, including plumbing, radiant heating, and hydronic systems.
Maintenance:
- Regular cleaning and lubrication of the crimping tool's components, especially the jaws, can help maintain its effectiveness and lifespan.
Safety:
- It's important to follow safety guidelines provided by the manufacturer. This may include wearing appropriate safety gear and using the tool in a controlled manner.
Remember, using the correct tool and technique is crucial for creating secure and watertight connections in PEX plumbing systems. Always refer to the manufacturer's instructions and guidelines for the specific crimping tool you are using.

User questions & answers
Question: | Where can I get User instructions for this item |
Answer: | The crimper can be used from 1" to 3/8" crimp rings. But in the package it contains 1/2" and 3/4" crimp rings. |
Question: | If the tool doesn't need calibration, why include the calibration tool? Also, no instructions were included. Can I get them somewhere |
Answer: | I have used it on 3/4", 5/8" and 3/8" hoses with no issues. |
Question: | Can this be used to crimp copper rings or just stainless steel ones? And is the crimper tool all metal besides that handle grips |
Answer: | They work on any rubber hose fuel, vacuum etc. |
Question: | The ad clearly states the tool can be used for removing. How |
Answer: | You shouldnt pinch rubber brake lines. I believe they have more structure to them, than just regular rubber hoses. You will end up wrecking them. I believe it causes them to collapse afterwards when they are in use if youve damaged them by crushing the inner core by pinching them off. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can this be used to repair a broken pressure washer hose |
Answer: | They don't. That's the bad thing about Amazon they sell very few replacement parts for the vast items they sell. That being said you can contact the manufacturer and they can send you a replacement part. |
Question: | will the tool work on crimping external water hose ends |
Answer: | It should not be much of a problem. The hammer impact dimple to lock the band after tensioning will not be in the exact center of the buckle if the band is against one side of the tool (off by 1/16"), but other wise should be fine. |
Question: | I see some reviews reporting issues with the clamps that come with this, however these are old. Do I need to buy shark bite clamps |
Answer: | This Band-it tool will handle a range of band sizes. The most common size used is 1/2", 5/8" & 3/4". Buy what size band you want and the buckles to suit. I mostly use S/S 5/8". Cheers John M. |
Question: | I need 5/8 clamps |
Answer: | I have always just bought the complete tool so not sure if you can buy the parts seperately |

Question: | Whats the quality difference between icrimp and iwiss? can this be used with any brand of pex and steel rings |
Answer: | iCrimp is sub-brand of IWISS, the manufacturer of iCrimp brand is IWISS. iCrimp keep develop innovated tools to satisfy customers' need with high quality and reasonable price. This cinch tool can work with any F2098 standard pex&stainless steel clamps. |
Question: | How difficult is this to use to clamp on the fitting? I am age female with OK hand strength, just wondering if this requires big strong hands, thanks |
Answer: | My experience was that it did require some "elbow grease" to fully clamp down. The handles are a bit short, so you don't get a lot of leverage. It requires both hands to operate, similar to bolt cutters, so it's not really about hand strength. I found myself wishing for a third hand to hold the clamp steady while I crimped it, because it was difficult to keep the clamp from slipping up and down while I was trying to apply left-right pressure to close it. |
