Question:	how do you lift it to the ceiling do you have a crank system
Answer:	I'm not especially strong but I lifted the rack onto a ladder and balanced it there with the help of another shelf, then I attached 4 rubber (heavy duty) bungee cords to each corner and hooked it to the ceiling mount. After those were all attached I could carefully keep tightening the cords by moving the hook further and further into the middle of the rack, lifting it up incrementally. Eventually you get to a point where you can 'hook' the rack onto the piece that comes down from the ceiling mount, so it's supported before you screw it in.
Question:	Do I have to install the rack perpendicular to the ceiling joists as in the video or can I install the rack parallel to the joists
Answer:	As long as the ceiling mounts are installed in a joist(s), then it will work. I installed my units in the corner of my garage, which required some creative mounting, as the studs where not conveniently lined up for a perfect installation. For one of the brackets, I ended up securing it to the wall rather ceiling as there was no stud along the ceiling next to one of the walls.
Question:	Is the ceiling anchor bracket 16 to 24 inches long so one can span perpendicular over two ceiling joists to properly secure the rack
Answer:	Janet,First off, my ceiling joist run front to back in my garage. My racks are mounted on the back wall with the 48" width going front to back and the 96" length side to side. The predrilled mounting holes are spaced 16" apart along the long side and 24" on the side. Therefore, they are ready as you receive them for for both. The vertical adjustable drop straps are mounted every 48" so it doesn't make any difference which spacing your ceiling joist is since every 48" they match up anyway. If you put the rack in a back corner of a garage you could mount it with the short side on the back wall and the long side along the side wall. In that case you would need to either have 24" spacing in your ceiling joist or buy 3 48" (you can buy them this length at a hardware store, Lowes or Home Depot) pieces of angle iron to span 16" joist then use any of the holes available to get the 24 and 48" spacing at the ceiling. Question:	What is the weight limit
Answer:	The limit is 600lbs, says so in the description and in the manual. I have 2 of these and I have a good 400lbs on 1 and 200 on the other and they have held just fine. If it fell, it wasn't installed correctly.

Answer:	Yes that is how I have mine. I have 8ft rack and 3 brackets are in one joist 4 ft apart

Answer:	A: It doesn’t wobble much. If you’re able to install it against a wall, attach the uprights to that wall, it won’t wobble at all. I couldn’t do that so I attached a piece of scrap 2x4 to the right and left corner uprights and the wall that this was 18inches from. Cheap fix. No wobble. Question:	How long should it take to install one rack
Answer:	I think it took me about 90 minutes and my skill level is moderate. Finding your ceiling joists and centering it where you want it is most of the work. I pre-drilled the holes for the lag bolts to ease installation and then just bolts together. Easy.
Question:	It says it’s adjustable.... so would this be able to be installed on a slanted ceiling
Answer:	Without seeing the slope of the ceiling, I would assume you would need to adjust one side so it is longer than the other. I mounted my rack to 2x4s on the two sides. It simplified fastening it to the joists in the garage ceiling. It also served to stiffen the unit. It is a beast.
Question:	How many bikes can it hold
Answer:	the picture shows one bike. unless that's just false advertising to sell the product

Answer:	The entire photo is computer generated. That is not photoshop, it's an area install example. There is no chain or drive on the overhead unit, no supports for the clearly small garage door, no electrical for opener, etc. I could go on and on. They just want to depict a usage for the tracks that some people may not think of and yes they do work above the garage door when it is open

Question:	can you install this in a garage with metal studs
Answer:	The Hyloft web site offers instructions for "metal stud installation" and says it offers a kit, but when I contacted them they told me to purchase the parts from a hardware store. Not happy about that.
Question:	I have a truss roof spaced at 24# centers, will this work
Answer:	Yes. There is movement on the hangers. If you don't feel comfortable screw in a 2x4 between the studs to get the support. Just be sure to use several long screws to make it solid to handle the weight. Hope this helps.
Question:	Will it work with metal joists
Answer:	Hello - Yes it can work with metal joists, but different attaching hardware should be used. Consider using 5/16” diameter toggle fasteners in this instance. The bolt would be 5/16", which is typically how these are measured.
Question:	If my joists are 24" apart, does that mean the metal grids will overhang the support bars? At 45" by 45", it won't span to 48" to hit another joist
Answer:	That's correct. The vertical support bars would be installed on every joist, so there would be about a 10" overhang on each side. If you are installing multiple units, there will be about a 3" gap between each. What worked well for me with multiple units was to use two heavy duty metal straps (about 1" wide, 8" long, 1/8" thick) and bolt those between the gaps in the shelves (with one on top and the other on the bottom of the shelving). This was done toward the outside of the shelves (away from the wall). That made all the units act as one. Then use 3" right angle brackets and bolts/screws to attach the shelves to the wall. That made the whole thing incredibly solid (they will sway a bit otherwise).

Question:	Does the rack have to be fully retracted to lock? For example, can it be raised half way and lock
Answer:	You can lock it pretty much any height you want. You raise and lower by turning a loop and the lock puts a pin in the loop so it won't turn.
Question:	Do you need to install any lag bolts in the T-bracket section? Directions only show 4 bolts on each of four arms. I want to straddle a metal i-beam
Answer:	Sorry I don't know the answer to that question. I had a handyman install it who has installed it several times. I know he said he used different stronger bolts that were in the original package and said the unit would now hold up to about 300-400 lbs. without worry. You will love it. It's the best solution around.
Question:	my ceiling is about 18 feet in the garage. Can I extend the cables/controls
Answer:	I have 9' ceilings in my garage and the platform lowers to within 18" of the floor. You could add cable to extend the drop to accomodate the added height from the original point. However your highest lift point would be about 7'6" above the floor. I am sure any alterations would void any warranties to the product. On a side note: I have two now and will be ordering at least one more soon. As far as control rod, you will have to extend it to meet your needs. The directions suggest a 1/2 inch drill but I had a local machine shop turn the insert down to fit a 3/8 drill. I might advise you to not use a cordless drill. I personally would consider going a little lighter on the max weight.
Question:	I'm surprised no one mentions that you have to drill ten holes fairly close together in each joist for the lag screws, according to instructions. Ten seems like overkill. Won't this weaken the joist
Answer:	Most ceiling joists are 2x6 and bigger and I have installed two of these lifts on the same joists and have not seen a problem with sagging or splitting of the wood. Considering the lift will hold up to 250 pounds it needs to fastened securely. If you are concerned about your joists being weakened by drilling I'm sure you could come up with a cripple stud solution where a second piece of wood is fastened to the original joists with three bolts and then the lift is screwed into the cripple studs. Still drilling the original joist but only in three places rather the ten.

Answer:	This rack will hold significant weight. You need to use strong anchors to hold the uprights to the wall. The horizontals are well anchored to the Uprights and wrap around the uprights. This means there is a small gap between the uprights and the wall. The washer is used to space the uprights from the wall a bit.

Answer:	The wholes on the pipe are only on two sides so if you rotate the flanged one then the bottom piece that makes the shelf will have to rotate in the same direction. Hope that answers your question. The flanged part will fit on any joist whether parallel or perpendicular to the joist.

Answer:	Because of the way the corner supports fasten to the support rails, it is about 1/4" short in each direction of holding a full 4X8 sheet of plywood.
Question:	I assume the 18" to 33" inches is 'storage height'. If I set it at 18" what is the total height from ceiling to bottom of entire unit
Answer:	The 18 to 33 is the support adjustment length- they are 18 inches long if you use two with the overlap the max is 33". If the support is 18" your lowest point will be 18" from ceiling. The frame is approx 3" deep so at 18 inches you have 15 inches above the shelf to the ceiling.
Question:	What is the width of the angle iron used to hold the rack? for example 1" x 1" or 1.5" x 1.5" etc... thx in advance
Answer:	2 Inch very sturdy Rack!! just attach to ceiling studs and it will easily hold the recommended weight. with no problem

Answer:	I created a 2x12 support to bridge the gap between the joists, securing the 2x12 with lag bolts to the joists. This allowed me to secure the ceiling mounts to the 2x12 instead of the joists/studs. I am not able to attach a photo.
