User questions & answers
Question: | Is it made out of steel or pop metal |
Answer: | This is all made out of steel and cast iron. Pot metal aka... die-cast zinc would be useless for a vise. |
Question: | Does this vise rotate 360 degrees |
Answer: | It will with a caveat. There is a channel with T-shaped receivers in it, similar to what a machinist table will utilize to hold down equipment. There is a section of cast iron directly across from each other in the channel that links the inner circle (under the vise itself), to the outer ring which has the bolt holes for attaching to a work bench. When installed, you can rotate approximately 160 degrees. To get the jaws to the other side of the circle, you would have to remove the vise from the bench and rotate, or remove the vice from the pedestal and reattach. you loose approximately 30 to 40 degrees of the entire 360 to account for the connecting bar. |
Question: | dose this vise have replaceable jaws |
Answer: | Wilton does not list a replacement Jaw part # for this model, even though they say they are replacable, Calling Wilton didn't help. Nobody could find this 11106 replacement jaws |
Question: | why does amazon say this is made of steal when if you look at the website it says Made from 30,000 PSI gray cast iron |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is there a warranty on the vice |
Answer: | it's best to use sandpaper a little bigger than the block, in this case one that's 3-2/3 would work fine, if you are using a full size sheet you can always cut to your desireable size to fit. |
Question: | what is the maximum opening distance of the jaws |
Answer: | What about in 2019. Is it still made in China? |
Question: | What is the mounting bolt hole pattern |
Answer: | I have the purple ones.Thanks,Mike |
Question: | Where is it made |
Answer: | Place the piece of sandpaper (cut to size, either 1/4 sheet or 1/3 sheet, I can't remember) rough side down and back side facing up. Place the sandblaster on top with an equal amount at each end. (There should be very little overlap on the sides.) There is a release on each end that will open a set of jaws. Tuck the sandpaper into the opening and tighten each end. The first end will go in easy, but the other end must be pulled tight before closing the jaw or it will bunch up and tear when you try to use it. It does take a little practice to get it right, but once it is tight, it is a great sander. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Cast iron or cast steel? (not the jaws |
Answer: | It is done by the slip screws on the sides you can see in the picture. you tighten them down and depending upon what you are trying to do is whether it will hold. This is a small inexpensive vise that works well for my intentions. I have it mounted to a piece of 3/4'' plywood and then take it where I need it then clamp it work area. I have a larger 6'' vise for heavier work permanently mounted. I have used vises all my life and never seen one held with pins to keep from swiveling. I like Wilton vises, I have used and purchased many different kinds |
Question: | Is the swivel base held in place with a friction device or pins that won't slip |
Answer: | Solid piece of hardware, no problems, top quality, best 5 star rating. 4 standard bolt/screw connections to work bench, installed in minutes. Recommend this product without any reservations. |
Question: | how does fit on work bench |
Answer: | You will not likely find any new made in USA vise for much less than $400. Assume all consumer priced vises are made in Asia. You can find USA made vises used for $50 or less but it will probably take you 2-3 days to repair it, rebuild it, and paint it. I did one vintage USA made Craftsmen but all my other vises are made in China. The Quality of vises are all over the map many look identical but fit finish and cast iron quality varies widely. The generic Chinese brands are mostly marginal. But the Yost, Wilton, Craftsman, and Irwin: Even the Asian versions seem to be better built and should work ok for a home owner DYI person. Pro's who depend on a vise to earn a living should plan to spend the 10x to 20x more money required purchase new USA vise.. I am always amazed when people are disappointed they can not buy a world class 30 vise for the price of 3 large pizza's. Another way out for people who are hard on tools but have a tight budget is to buy one or two sizes larger than they think they need 1 or 2 inches of additional jaw width is a big increase in size and weight which can add longevity. Finally a vise is not a hydraulic arbor press and it is non an anvil. |
Question: | Is this paticular wilton vise made in tbe usa? some wilton vises are chinese now |
Answer: | The length of the longest piece (when taken apart) of this 2-piece 7-feet casting rod is about 43 inches, and the length of the bag is about 45 inches. |

User questions & answers
Question: | Is this made in the USA |
Answer: | This sanding screen is made for plaster unlike sandpaper will clog up and this screen won’t. I would suggest a good quality of sandpaper instead. |
Question: | Can anyone tell me the dimensions of the mounting plate from bolt hole to bolt hole |
Answer: | I believe that is what they are intended for, however I cut them in half and use to clean water deposits off porcelain toilets & such. |
Question: | what is the waranty on this vise ? LIFE TIME |
Answer: | The 3M 03148 Black sanding block uses hook and loop sand paper attachment. The 05519 block uses regular sheets of sand paper that "clip" into the slots. |
Question: | Is this powder coated |
Answer: | Not sure, this is designed for woodworking. The ends are slotted horizontally so when you open an end, you push the sandpaper in as far as it goes. It has tacks embedded in the upper slot that grab the paper when you release the base. The rubber keeps the paper tight. As long as your 5000 grit is durable & thick enough, it should work on flat surfaces. |

User questions & answers
Question: | what size mounting bolts do i need to mount on the base |
Answer: | A quick call to JPW Industries vise and clamp technician indicates that the body parts of model #1765, in accordance with the models drawing, are 60,000 psi nodular iron. That would indicate that they are not forged. |
Question: | where are they made |
Answer: | I believe these Tradesman Wiltons on Amazon are imported. A clue is a Wilton sticker slapped on the side instead of being in the casting (and the price being close to other imports). I could be wrong , but it is very common for a manufacturer to switch and bury that detail. |
Question: | Is the an American made vise |
Answer: | “Manufactured in Taiwan to Wilton specifications” |
Question: | What are the base dimensions so I know what size footprint it has |
Answer: | Made in China unfortunately. Their higher end stuff is made here (as all of their vises used to be), but this model is an import. |

Question: | Where is it made |

Question: | Where is this vice made |
Answer: | It's not made in the USA, it's Chinese made and Wilton branded. Although it is made in China it's a decent vise for the money. I really wanted a 6-8" Wilton journeyman vise, but didn't want to shell out the $600 plus bucks for one. I use mine at home and for that it's just fine. |
