Need good amount of lean onto the building and up a foot or so past the roofline. Don't go near the top rung to stand. I do enjoy the ladder and its compact feature when not in use. If you are over 200 lbs, you will need the most sturdy ladder they make. At 180, this does have a bit of bow when I am on it. Hope this helps. LTD

Answer:	I have mine installed in a 20" x 28" opening. The sides have plenty of room and it deploys out of the 28" length easy making me think it could give up some of that length and still be fine. The trick is having enough attic height so you can tilt the ladder steeper before pulling it down. The smaller the opening, the more vertical it has to be to drop down. It would come through a 22" opening if you have would I estimate as about 36"-40" of height in the attic.

Answer:	I don't know where the ladder is made. I looked all over my ladder and it does not say. I looked on the Wolfwise web site and it doesn't say either. I can tall you this. I'm very impressed with this ladder. It weighs about 25 lbs and It's very strong, I didn't expect it to be as rigid as it is. The bottom tubes are about 2 3/4" diameter. I weigh over 200 lbs and with the ladder fully extended there is very little give or flexing as I go up and down, far less than with an aluminum extension ladder. When letting the ladder down there is a soft drop feature as each section collapses so there is little chance you would get your finger smashed. You won't go wrong with this ladder.

Answer:	Should fit...on center means center to center. So 24" on center is 22½" in between.

Answer:	Yes, but it's a tight fit. The wooden frame is 21 3/4" wide, so while it will fit in a 22" joist bay, there's little tolerance for adjustment. Your joists had better be parallel in both directions. Mine were a little out of whack in both directions, so I had to make tapered shims to compensate. One hint: check for squareness of the assembly by closing the stairs and seeing if the door cover (presumed to be a rectangle) lines up.
Question:	This version is currently about $20 cheaper than the 7' - 8'9"" model. Is there any reason this one can't be cut down shorter than the listed
Answer:	Rather than risking your safety and welfare on an old unit, buy a new one. The ladder wood dries out with heat and old age, the hardware gets bent and loose. Probably one spring broke so they removed the other. How does it stay closed with no springs? My hardware and spring arms were getting very loose and the steps would crunch when you stepped on them from being dry. Weigh the risk $86 and free shipping for a new unit. At least that's what it was when I bought mine. Every time I use it now I ask myself why didn't I do this 15 years ago

Answer:	I think it might work but your first step would be close to the floor. Might be better to find a model mad for 8'-10'. I used this one in my garage which has 10'-6" ceiling, it is an awesome ladder.

Answer:	I have this installed in my garage with an 11 ft ceiling.. It comes with a expandable pole to reach the loop to pull the door down. Once that is done, being 5ft 9 inches tall, I use a 3 step stool to stand on to fold out the ladder to the floor. I also use the step stool to stand on when folding it back up. I have had it installed for almost a year now and have always opened and closed it by myself.

Answer:	nope.. if it were it might come down when you pull the door down... as said it attached to the floor of the attic which also saves space...you are given a bar with a plastic hook to pull it down.. works really well..

Answer:	I can only say that without modification, the spring mechanism will not allow vertical retraction. Mines served me well although a bit flimsy, is equally as light, compact and functional. I'm 185, I couldn't recommend it for anyone over 220.

Answer:	Yes, it should work provided that the other clearance requirements are met (it does require some space above and behind the attic opening where the ladder sits when it is stowed).The ladder is on the light weight side. I weigh @ 220 and I feel like I am about as heavy as could use it.

Answer:	I do not think OSHA would allow commercial use, because of the lack of hand rails. It a ladder and not a stair case, and should not be used as such.

Answer:	I installed ours in my garage. The last 2 1/2 feet also fold; so, unlike others I've seen, this one has two hinged sections, rather than just one. I think if you don't cut too much off the bottom section, you should be good. However, before I purchased this ladder, I called the Louisville Ladder folks, and I suggest you call them before you buy.
